I initially thought we might squeeze a top-half finish with some promising attacking players helping to overcome defensive shortcomings but the more I think about it, the more I struggle to see us finishing higher than last season’s 20th. After all, it’s not like anyone can really say we’ve strengthened the squad since March and we weren’t exactly pulling up any trees back then.
I still think we’ll have enough to stay up but possibly not by much.
I’ll say 20th again this year.
September 10, 2020 at 10:27 am #194512Bottom half, let’s say 17th.
There will be more teams who struggle.
September 10, 2020 at 11:29 am #194513For me beating last years position with a bit of bright attractive football and some of the youngsters growing into “proper” league players will a good result.
My optimistic side thinks that scraping into the top half would be great so I will go with 11th place.
September 10, 2020 at 12:16 pm #194515Quite pessimistic this season. All the changes of personnel, concentrating more on bringing our own through make me quite reserved would have said 1st but I will go for 3rd !!
September 10, 2020 at 12:34 pm #194516After listening to Ironstats on Patreon we should know by the end of the month!
September 10, 2020 at 1:18 pm #194518Lower mid-table.
September 10, 2020 at 2:42 pm #194521Optimistic. If we have half the team wanting to prove they’re better than L2 and the other half trying to prove they’re league standard then the effort should be there. If both groups are correct in the assessment of their ability then we should be OK. If we can get the sulker(s) interested as well even better.
As Dutch said there’ll be other teams struggling as well, has there ever before been so much recruitment from National League and below, let’s hope we’ve got some good uns.
Play-offs.September 10, 2020 at 2:51 pm #194522Given what signings and exodus of players has taken place, the way the club has set out it’s plan of younger players and the very little bit of action I’ve seen then I’ll go for between 15th-18th. I’ve still got my doubts about a couple of positions and would prefer more experience in the team overall, especially as Kev out for a lengthy period and Clarke’s past fitness record being patchy at best.
I don’t know what formation we will start with but understand what Cox has done pre-season in giving all uninjured players game time. I would like us to not concentrate on opposition tactics too much. Play attacking football and be on the front foot straight from the off.
September 10, 2020 at 3:22 pm #194523The squad is worse than last season so if we finish 20th or above it’ll be a success.
September 10, 2020 at 4:46 pm #194524Don’t underestimate the benefits of 10 outfield players giving 100% rather than 6 or 7.
September 10, 2020 at 6:51 pm #194526Cautiously optimistic.
Anything above 12th place is an achievement; the budget has been reduced and expectations should be managed accordingly.
The squad is still too large and excess fat will need to be trimmed. Part of our problem in recent seasons has been too many players sat on the sidelines offering no use whatsoever; can’t be good for morale and stifles player development.
Entertaining games, hard work, a good cup run and the double over the cod heads should suffice. Additionally I’m actually looking forward to watching a team with something to prove rather than mercenaries looking for a final pay cheque.
14th-18th place.
September 10, 2020 at 9:12 pm #194528I have grave concerns.
The squad is very young and inexperienced.
The defence has weaknesses of considerable note.
Many of our experienced players are absent through injury.
The signs are not good.September 10, 2020 at 11:33 pm #194532The big question, where will we finish, in my opinion there could be either one of two answers.
1. If supporters are not allowed into grounds before the end of the year, we will go into administration.
2. If fans are allowed to attend games during October, I think that a League position of between 12th and 15th will be what we willend up with, I know that we have only played two matches, but we do not appear to be doing too much attacking, and I am hoping that this changes.
What I cannot understand is that a small number of fans where allowed to attend the Brighton match, then again a reduced number of supporters where allowed for the Cambridge game, and there were no signs of any issues, now this is again to occure at Salford of all places, they are in the top six visus area’s, but how many more matches do the Government want to prove things can be done without issues, there is no reason what so ever to not have attendances of 20 to 25% limits and by advanced ticks only, this is ongoing at Scunthorpe Speedway and things are going ahead without any signs of any issues, why not football???
September 11, 2020 at 9:45 am #194538I presume, BS, that they need to wait a couple of weeks so see if there’s any noticeable increase in cases in the areas where the trials have been conducted. Also, you need more than just one experiment before you can draw any proper conclusions.
Anyway, the big question is, if you are one of the few hundred allowed into GP, will you still be leaving games early to avoid the rush?
September 11, 2020 at 1:04 pm #194549With injured players back: FBs will impove; CBs will improve; forward line will improve with KVV.
Currently, FBs and GK do concern me a bit, otherwise progressing nicely for a young side.September 11, 2020 at 1:16 pm #194552Do you reckon we’ve got anything like the necessary in central midfield Les?
September 11, 2020 at 8:49 pm #194568I have to believe we will finish off this season better than the last. If only because we have got shut of a lot of dead weight and replaced it with enthusiastic youth.
It is a shame that we have injuries to some of our more experienced players, Clark and Van Veen in particular. But they will be back, and hopefully their will be no distress signals in the meantime.

September 11, 2020 at 11:23 pm #194572Ferrite, if rere is a reduced number of fans, lets say reduced to 2,000 fans, there would be no need for me to leave early, but I cannot see a problem if I did leave 5 mins before the game ends!!!
September 12, 2020 at 8:14 am #194576Not bothered as long as it’s not relegation.
The club need some stability, time to build a team on and off the pitch.
The chairman needs to sit on his hands for a season and not go chasing dreams, I think if he smells promotion he will spend at the clubs expense.September 12, 2020 at 12:18 pm #194590I have rated Gilliead since the first time I saw him, Ferrite. Always thought he’d end up as a CM.So many different skills.
I like Vincent – from what little I’ve seen.
Feel that pair will serve us well. Spence looks a better backup than Hallam to me. Can’t say too much about the others.September 12, 2020 at 2:38 pm #194591Interesting lineup today.
Plenty of attacking options from the bench. Or is that because we’ve no fit defenders?
September 12, 2020 at 5:28 pm #194602Top half.
September 12, 2020 at 6:05 pm #194606Top half……..of bottom two
September 14, 2020 at 1:38 pm #194666On average, 20th place requires 12-13 wins. Not sure I see us getting many more than that to be honest.
