Well done the youngsters!
Well played Rory – again.
One point off playoffs.
(Thanks Trev – pen looked dodgy but didn’t once fall for player cheating.)
Well done Hippo.
Best we’ve seen from Rowe, IMHO.
Beautiful defending.8 users thanked author for this post.
August 28, 2021 at 5:17 pm #212778Have to give credit to Watson, he’s looked a lot more solid so far this season! Hope he keeps it up.
Centre backs looked strong. We should be much better offensively when Loft, Scrimshaw, Bunn and Perry come back into team.

August 28, 2021 at 5:19 pm #212779Still a long way to go, and I’m uneasy about gifting so much possession to the opposition, and their wide players were getting far too many crosses into the box, but I am definitely feeling more cheerful about our prospects for the season. Good to see Cox blooding the youngsters (okay, he didn’t have much choice) and good to see us actually creating a few chances. I don’t think it was a penalty, but we suffered a few dodgy penalties against us last season, so we were due a bit of luck. Let’s hope that win kick-starts our season now!
August 28, 2021 at 5:21 pm #212780Reasonable for fans to think of coming back.
August 28, 2021 at 5:29 pm #212781Still a long way to go to get my attendance back.only 2700 there, over 5000 at the cods McAtee gets M-O-M
August 28, 2021 at 5:30 pm #212782But Swann is still at the helm Les, and it is only the first win in sixteen games, let’s not get carried away just yet,but definitely more positive.

August 28, 2021 at 5:43 pm #212784But it was sooo bad from the players last year, AWG, that it is quite a relief to see a group of lads with some real guts and determination. They look to be wearing the shirt with pride. That really does my heart good.
Credit to you there, Neil!Good to see Jarvis. Not hugely effective but he worked hard and has been out for almost a year. He looks as if he has filled out a bit since last season and wasn’t afraid to let people bounce off him.
Could be a very different – and almost certainly – a stronger side by the next game.

August 28, 2021 at 5:49 pm #212786We lack quality but make up for a lot with work rate, passion and sheer determination. The only downer for me was not finishing chances but the guys worked hard to create them which is a big positive. Deffo pen for me les, arm raised when no need, well played ref on that one and well done all the players in general for just keeping battling on for the whole game. Fair play to Cox he has instilled a great attitude in these players and when injuries clear up we should be ok. Still need another striker but the defence is spot on for me, well done guys 👏👏👏

August 28, 2021 at 5:55 pm #212788Can’t say about last year Les, But for the team we’re having to put out we’re doing ok, and the goal celebration at Walsall showed the players are there for each other and the fans.

August 28, 2021 at 6:23 pm #212792Looks like Perry & Scrimshaw isolating then. Could be worse, we could be Tranmere, 73% possession and no shots on target. Although 27% possession in a home game is not something I want to see very often (or ever again)

August 28, 2021 at 7:05 pm #212801Very committed display today. Thought Thompson and Rowe were excellent and Onoraise always controlled his man.
Jarvis did put a shift in but he does lack quality and when you lack quality all you can ask is to put that shift in.
Green still looks off it and several times he had the opportunity to burn his man but just didn’t have the legs.
O’Neil was awful and I may have to apologise to George Miller for the comparison.
The defence looks solid and if we could get a bit of quality up front we should be mid table come season end. A decent striker it would’ve been 3-0 but the most pleasing aspect about today was one simple thing…….
it was entertaining

August 28, 2021 at 7:10 pm #212802So true about the possession Tash but if that game had finished in a 5-0 win it would have been fairer on the chances created and that with so little possession. We’ve had much more of the ball in the past and not managed to create anything. M.O.M. was Joe Murphy by a country mile.
August 28, 2021 at 7:25 pm #212803They had more possession but it didn’t seem like it and they never looked like scoring and we could have had 5, unless we were playing in White.
August 28, 2021 at 8:05 pm #212809They look to be wearing the shirt with pride.
High praise indeed given how bloody awful it is!

I wonder if you were there which l doubt everyone tried nice to criticise from your armchair

This is so true Awaywego, it has been a very long wait since the last win!!, sixteen long matches since a win, and failed to score a goal in eleven of them, so a 1-0 home win is not really a sign of things to come is it.
I am really pleased to see the lads win today, and hope for a few more, but being honest, I am not really missing my treck to GP, and still feel that it is not value for money, and enjoy not feeling that enjoyment is no longer on offer after 70 long years when I just turned up for every match when available to me.
August 29, 2021 at 12:51 am #212829If Rowe is ousted from the RB slot for Pugh after that performance then Cox needs lynching. Criminal playing Pugh there when Rowe’s here, least that’s his natural position. Top performance that from him today, best while he’s been here by quite some distance.

August 29, 2021 at 12:35 pm #212844Great to read the positive reviews,
didn’t expect anything yesterday.Was scrimshaw injured ?
August 29, 2021 at 1:14 pm #212845Suspect 1 of Scrimshaw or Perry is the positive Covid case and the other is isolating.

August 31, 2021 at 11:57 am #212936A great performance although we will struggle to score, defence looks formidable compared to last season all the team battled hard and worked for each other Beestin, Pugh, Thompson were outstanding a great team performance against a very experienced team,Joe Murphy had a great game still giving rollickings like confetti 😄 UTI

A perfectly reasonable, well-adjusted comment.
