Probably a statement that should have been 12 months earlier, but at least there is some humility there. Whatever was said in those meetings appears to have shed light on just how fractured the relationship is with supporters.

Firstly he Desperately needs to address on the field matters as anything else is almost irrelevant when we are getting leathered every week.

Totally agree Cliff. It’s a start, and I give him credit for that where up to now he has had none in my bank. One swallow doesn’t make a summer and be good to hear next what his plans are to sort the on field mess.

I think you should cut him some slack. He sounded honest and went into a lot of depth last night. I am not easily convinced but I am willing to see what happens from now on. It takes guts to admit you were wrong but he did that and most of the people in that meeting left feeling a lot better about the off field scene.

“For me, I need to interact better, I am disappointed in my approach and the way it has been taken by the fans, but thought it was my responsibility to sort everything on my own.

That will change and hopefully that can begin.”

    Hmmm!

“disappointed in the way it has been taken by the fans” This is no apology. Swann talks in riddles as usual. He says one thing but means another. How does he expect the fans to take it that he has taken us to the bottom of the football league and as yet is not looking to change anything. The majority now don’t trust Swann, with good reason, what he said regarding scunthorpe united fans needd to lower their expectations, well we can’t get much lower than where we are now. I and the majority of our fans expect us to remain in the football league. Obviously he thinks our expectations are too high. SWANN GET GONE.

Swann is trying to keep some fans on his side by crawling like the snake he is, but if we exit the football league at the end of the season which is looking high likely he will not take any blame and will turn it onto the fans for not turning out to watch the worst football, if you can call it football, being played since we entered the football league. Listening the podcast this morning and they said we didn’t look conference or even below that standard. They said we looked like a Sunday League side at Harrogate. Every match we are getting worse. But on the podcast it was said that they think we will get even lower if Swann doesn’t change things. Is this what he means by “lowering our expectations”. Snakes and worms squirm when they are in trouble but they never change.

It is overdue and he should have been saying it on the podcast but he’s clearly listened in those meetings and the shock of reality has woken him up.

I will take him up on the offer of season ticket holder meetings too.

I just hope the players & manager react like Swann has this week.

A bit of humility is long overdue and the proof will be in his actions but it’s a step in the right direction. See what happens now. Maybe he’s realised going in to interviews and meetings on the defensive with his back up is counter productive? Maybe someone he respects has had a word? Either way, it’s got to be better than where relations were at. Thanks for the meeting feedback to those in attendance.

I’m not trying to defend him but if posters are going to quote him at least do it accurately. Taken from the BBC:

“I’m disappointed in my approach and the way it has been taken by the fans.”

The key thing for me there is ‘disappointed in my approach’.

Man who refuses to listen to anyone and treats fans with disdain has complete change of heart and becomes remorseful within 7 days following years of complete opposite behaviour.

Was this speech streamed on Disney+?

It is nice to read MrSwanns view of the way he has done things wrong, and suggestds that he will change things for the better.

Then I look back and se how many of us backed him during his first five years in charge of the club, but sadly nothing that MrSwann said ever came to happen, so why should we beleive this statement????, I think that he can see that things are going to get worse financialy (not on the field, becase this is not possible). Sorry Peter, but I supported you for six years, before coming to the conclusion that it was all a smoke screen.

“the way it has been taken by the fans”

And this clown STILL blames the fans and cannot accept Swann is to blame for any of this mess! Come on UTI even Bucks had the balls to admit he was wrong, if he can, you can too?

Bucks ‘admit he was wrong’? Yep, read his letter again. Nowhere to be seen whatsoever. Just read Swann’s statement again. Explicitly admits he got it wrong.

Don’t believe one word of it. Still not accepting responsibility – in the line you use Deereyme66 the phrase “….the way it has been taken by the fans” says it all. Still the fans fault.

From his 1st fans forum he has created a wall between club and fans. And carried this on for 8yrs ! Suddenly in a heartbeat a total acceptance his fault because the fans didn’t get it !!

And it coincides with the culmination of several years of his recruitment policy delivering a BOTTOM of the table team.

    We’ve been here before.
This guy can talk the talk alright, but it’ll turn out to be yet another smokescreen, IMHO.

Look for ANY changes in the next 14 days.

If there are none, I’m right.

If, by any chance, we see some improvement, I’ll gladly admit to being wrong.
Nothing would make me happier…but I’m not holding my breath.

Only a few days ago Swann stated that you can’t run a football league club on gates below 3000. Well look at the clubs above us in our league who are fairing much better than we are an gates well below 3000. If the club is rotten at the core eventually it goes all through the club and delivers on the pitch. So in seven days Swann has changed his opinions on the way he has been running our Club. But then again he is disappointed that the fans have taken it so badly. What a load of lies.

You’re being unusually generous there Alcy.

Didn’t he say something about a further update on Friday?

I’m sure Fansy has another fable he can link to. One about leopards and spots maybe?

I think 14 days is a bit unfair what changes can really happen in 2 weeks? Yes he could sack the manager but would that please everyone? He said work would now start on development before christmas and gave his reason’s as to why it hasn’t happened earlier. He has promised/guaranteed that he will return the club and ground back to SUFC. Let’s give him a chance now to prove his worth because honestly what else is there for us out there.

Last chance saloon has been open for months!

As the OP says this should have been happening a year ago.

The cynic in me asks “why now?” Is is because we have a home game this Saturday following on from a 6-1 away thrashing where grumblings were evident from the Iron faithful?

Truly sorry or playing for time?

Maybe finally realised it can’t carry on like this for much longer, so better to swallow his pride and change tac? A lot of what fans have been justifiably complaining about for years wouldn’t take much to address. That’s partly what’s been so annoying. Perhaps I’m being gullible but the proof will be in the pudding anyway. Personally I don’t care that much why the change in voice now, If it’s purely for business / financial reasons all well and good because we all want a better run club.

I’m not going to fall head over heels into some great trusting mindset regarding him, but he’s offered a glimpse of change. He needs to act to demonstrate his words though and if not we’re back to square one and I won’t be remotely swayed again.

I’m a little confused…his statement says “the stadium will be returned to Scunthorpe United along with its training facilities and that the club will benefit financially from any such developments.“. Whilst this is good news it seems to be contrary to previous statements made back in April; “We had a loan for £11m, and we decided to write that off against the asset and take the charge off.“.

I think Mr Swann and the Club are that deep in the mire.
With his track record of what he SAYS he is going to do and nothing changes in fact it gets worse year after year then why should this total change of direction be believed.
I think this new change of direction comes to try and stop the protests and boycotts.
Also to divide is to conquer and by having the shareholders to meetings in small groups is possibly to divide the fans.
Obviously the Season Ticket Holders and Fans don’t matter ! We don’t even get a Forum any more.
