I know it’s tricky with Covid & injuries, plus being crap, but I’m getting increasingly baffled by Hill’s chaotic selection.
Wood: not involved for months, suddenly starts a game ahead of Kenyon, Pugh & others, and does well. Where’s he been?
Perry: another missing man, then brought back in to start back-to-back games.
Kenyon & Millen: two of our three experienced summer signings, nowhere to be seen now, replaced with inexperienced kids. The third of that trio, Davis, disappeared last night too.
Jarvis: another one who’s disappeared from view after some decent performances.
Green: looked an important part of the team at Oldham just 5 games ago, now where is he?
I don’t know if this sort of inconsistency of selection is a symptom of wider problems or part of them and I’m sure there are good reasons for so many players disappearing from view and then reappearing (or not!), I just think it would be nice for fans to know a bit more about what’s going on.

January 26, 2022 at 11:17 am #230549One thing is clear to me though: if Beestin is going to play regularly, he’s got to track his man more when defending. For their first goal, he’s standing watching the unmarked player score. Hill mentioned this indirectly in his interview too.

January 26, 2022 at 11:22 am #230551There are certainly some Covid issues.

January 26, 2022 at 11:34 am #230554Beestin didn’t look fit last night, one of the players stood watching when Bristol were lining up to take pot shots at our goal, Hill mentioned players just watching not being involved enough in his post match interview. Rumours Beestin is a long covid sufferer, wouldn’t be surprised on last night’s evidence.

January 26, 2022 at 11:55 am #230557Kenyon on the way. Dropping a couple of divisions. Davis close to the exit door too. More shambolic recruitment.

January 26, 2022 at 12:04 pm #230558Jarvis has had got Covid for the third time
Beestin has had Long Covid so not fully fit
Millen, Thompson and Bunn are injured
Hallam is Hallam, long layoff, back for a game and injured again, but did survive his cameo on Saturday
Kenyon has been injured but may be goingwe have been down to the bare bones
January 26, 2022 at 12:10 pm #230560The selection chaos you refer to is more of a case that players like Davis, Millen and Kenyon are out of the team because they were crap signings and because of performances when they were picked.
Green has been poor for the majority of matches. He did OK at right back for one game, but then struggled in the next game. Confirmed last night that Beestin has long covid. I think Jarvis is injured.
Hill was very critical of the defence last night. He didn’t name him, but was not happy about Taft giving the penalty away. We need another centre back.

January 26, 2022 at 12:34 pm #230562I know a few youngish people suffering bad with long Covid. They’re fit people normally but certainly don’t have the rigours of pro footy. Must be tough. Newcastle’s keeper Darlow struggled with it I believe.

Pretty damning indictment of our off-field staff if the three experienced signings from the summer are not being picked within 6 months of arriving!
It doesn’t explain the disappearance & reappearance of players like Wood & Perry though.
January 26, 2022 at 1:02 pm #230565Perry has only just come back from a baddish injury, not sure about Wood but he played well in the first half last night.

January 26, 2022 at 3:22 pm #230569Hackney’s little faux-pas hasn’t made selection any easier either!
January 26, 2022 at 3:29 pm #230570One thing is for sure, what ever league we find ourselves in next season it will be great we can actually clear the decks of a lot of the crap signed in the last 2 years that just beggared belief with there lack of quality and showing.Almost start from scratch and start again.
January 26, 2022 at 3:53 pm #230571And hopefully come back stronger.

If the same scouting system is in place I wouldn’t get too excited.

January 26, 2022 at 4:20 pm #230574….yeah and don’t forget about the ground sharing with Bottesford Town next season. 😲
January 26, 2022 at 4:30 pm #230575If Hill is still here next season I expect the chief scout will get a job change and be mucking out the stables.

January 26, 2022 at 7:21 pm #230591Millen, Davis and Kenyon are supposed to be on their way. According to twitter we’re in for Anthony Grant as a replacement for Kenyon.
Not sure about Millen but rumour is he’s on his way and now we’ve got that Young lad from Wolves Hill probably doesn’t feel we need Millen. Hill is also looking at an experienced CB replacement for Davis.
Also rumoured we’re sending Hackney back due to the ban and getting another loan CM player to cover for him, which would make sense as he’s out for another 5 games and when he’s back he won’t be match fit.
If Grant does sign along with an experienced able bodied CB with Nuttall…that’s not half bad.
Grant, Feeney, whoever the experienced CB is will be much needed experience. I still think we need another striker though to go with Nuttall “if he signs” and Burns.
I wish Swann would pay KDT’s contract up and we could move him on and get Andrew in his place, as all he’s doing is cluttering up the place and taking up a space on the quota.
January 26, 2022 at 7:31 pm #230594Hackney’s little faux-pas hasn’t made selection any easier either!
Personally disappointed that Mr Wilder didn’t recall him and send a better replacement.
January 26, 2022 at 7:35 pm #230596The thing is if it all works is there enough games for them all to gel and win enough games, but at least its starting to look like the Chairman is making an effort so some on here may need to eat their words-at least until the trapdoor opens.
January 26, 2022 at 7:36 pm #230597Peter Swanns a Tory he’s making us go down and when we’re getting battered he’s out in Blackpool town
January 26, 2022 at 7:50 pm #230600Too little too late though really isn’t it? Other clubs like Stevenage (who were below us in the table after the Oldham win) made pretty impressive signings in the first week of the transfer window and are now 9 points clear of us. We’ve dawdled around, sold last season’s top scorer and ended up 7 points from safety.
Doesn’t really matter who we sign, the club is rotten, we’ve won 5 games of competitive football in 49 games since March 2021!

January 26, 2022 at 8:52 pm #230605Least Hill is getting in the experience we need, even if it is late in the day. Experienced CB, Grant, Feeney with Nuttall upfront would be a much stronger spine. Sinclair looks a pretty clever player as well.
I think we’ve got a player in Burns and upfront with Nuttall you would have thought we’d be a lot more potent.
As mentioned above though, problem will be getting them to gel and get them up to speed straight away.
Least now we’re doing something…hardly ideal but least they’re coming in. If we could send Hackney back and get a replacement in and somehow get rid of KDT and get another experienced striker in, considering where we are, we wouldn’t have done half bad.

January 26, 2022 at 9:42 pm #230608We’ll go nowhere with Taft at the heart of the defence & as captain.
Manny’s defending for their 1st last night was abysmal but i’m inclined to forgive him given he kicks & heads it well, generally.
Perry is a luxury player who would probably look much better in a winning team, but not what we need in a relegation fight.
Kenyon has looked 3 stone too heavy all season.January 27, 2022 at 8:56 am #230620After something like 3 years of signings who disappoint and underwhelm, I wish I had the optimism of some of the posters on here!

January 27, 2022 at 1:25 pm #230641With a good coach seemingly having a big say in signings for areas that everyone’s been saying need urgent attention, plus the never say die attitude on Tuesday, it’s the most optimistic I’ve felt for a few years. But we shall see… might phone the doctor…

You can tell with the type of players we’re targeting that the transfer decision making has changed up. If this was Swannster and co, we’d be targeting odd foreigners or lower league kids.
