Forgive me if this has been done before but I reckon a Hall of Fame could be an excellent long-term project for the club, with the chance to raise funds, keep the club’s history alive, and leave something for the future.

You could have an annual dinner, which could really be at any time of the year, where you induct a few players into the Hall of Fame. Hopefully some former players, or their relatives in some cases, would be able to attend to receive their recognition and say a few words. It could become quite a big annual event, something which people don’t want to miss. Special merchandise could be produced too.

Inductees could be recognised in a number of ways, whether it’s pictures in the players’ tunnel, inclusion in the programme, a special section of the website, etc. There could also be scope for a tie-in with the North Lincs Museum, for a special exhibition of United Hall-of-Famers.

I know it’s not a big priority but things like this help to form a sense of what a club is, what it means to people, and have the potential to earn money for the club. Which all seem like good things to me.

    Good idea.
Here’s an example of what could be done.
In November this year, we will welcome the fifth batch of inductees to the Motherwell FC Hall of Fame.

In our 137-year history, there have been names who have forged their way into Motherwell FC history and we want to commemorate their efforts.

We will never forget those who have forged the path to where the club sits at present day. Some with us and some sadly not, we want to come together to celebrate the proud history we have at Motherwell Football Club.

This year, the event will take place at Dalziel Park Hotel on Friday 17 November, with host Tam Cowan inducting five new names.

If you would like to attend our night of celebration, tickets cost £66 for adults and £30 for children under the age of 12 are on sale now.

You can buy tickets for the dinner online or contact the commercial department on 01698 338011.

Please note than some of the colourful language on the night may not be appropriate for young children or those easily offended.

I believe from conversations I’ve had ,not with Michelle btw, that Michelle is keen to get a SUFC museum display down there, similar to the one they had at Scunthorpe Museum several years ago.She was instrumental in that and I know a partnership with the Iron trust would be fruitful here. This could easily be done in conjunction with a hall of fame. It would be good to make this coincide with a pre season fete to launch the kit and culminate in an evening dinner .

Great idea, Ferrite. Perhaps send Glyn Sparks an email with the suggestion?

A good idea with the museum too- if there is room at GP? You would fill it with memorabilia from staffy alone.

A room has already been earmarked for an SUFC museum, there’s a large amount of memorabilia set aside.
    Ready for next season.

This is a great idea, hope it’s a real success.

That’s exactly the sort of thing I was thinking about. For what it’s worth, Motherwell is (currently) a fan-owned club, so I’m not surprised to see them doing this sort of thing. I always had a soft spot for Motherwell too, another steeltown club, great name & kit. KVV. Used to work with a fee ‘Well fans on Scunthorpe steelworks who had moved down after Ravenscraig closed. We should have some sort of “fan friendship” with Motherwell I reckon, pre-season friendlies, group of Iron fans going to see a game of theirs once a season (and vice versa).

Is that right? I presume everyone already knew that?
