August 28, 2022 at 12:55 am #243680This team doesn’t only need 2 new defenders it needs players with mobility who can get around the pitch. Rohan ince proved that for Woking, we lack pace as well.
The calibre of players I thought we’re good who we signed but they just don’t have the athleticism to be able to compete physically.
August 28, 2022 at 3:22 pm #243745So wtf is going on in training? They’re decent enough standard to compete at this level. And wtf is Hill and Co telling them? They don’t look like they understand him. If we don’t why should we expect them to?
August 28, 2022 at 8:35 pm #243776Nothing to do with training. They are good players but they’re not the most mobile, are they ?. Beestin used to get around the pitch well but ever since he picked up covid, he’s well short.

August 29, 2022 at 7:42 am #243797Look where we are now – youngsters on loan coming in. AGAIN!
No disrespect to these lads at all but they aren’t what we need unless we are very lucky.
(Incidentally. ‘lucky’ and SUFC don’t often appear in the same sentence!)2 users thanked author for this post.
August 29, 2022 at 8:04 am #243798It just shows how much bullshit comes out the club. Hill’s youth policy is nonsense. In fact anything Hill touches is turned to crap. Remember highly rated Burns last year. Press repeat – these players, other clubs players won’t get better here under Hill. Name one player who has improved/ flourished under Hill and McMahon.
He cares as much about the club and the fans as the Swann family

August 29, 2022 at 8:13 am #243799We did use to make excellent use of the loan market; Toney, Yates and Crooks were top class recruits. Thomas
And slater ended up in the championship for Hull and Coventry. Even the berated george miller is now a regular league 2 scorer. It’s obvious the problem lies within the club and not the loan system. Doesn’t help we can’t seem to construct a balanced team anymore and have 5/6 players competing for 2 positions when left short in others- as has happened for the last few seasons

August 29, 2022 at 9:14 am #243808That is the lottery part of the loan system. Some players arrive with a good attitude and/or ready to compete in mens football from day 1. Yates, Toney and Crooks who no surprise have been established players at a good level. I am pretty sure the Iron was not the first loan for these 3.
Others arrive with attitude issues. The pair from Chelsea and Fulham that arrived at the same time spring to mind. So useless I can’t remember their names. Thomas, Slater and Miller might have done OK since then but were totally useless and not ready for mens football at the time they came to us. You have to scout loan players and assess them the same way you have to do with perm signings.
Of course it is easier for loan signings to do well in a half decent side – much harder to make in impression in an Iron team from the last 4 years.
August 29, 2022 at 9:38 am #243812Thomas has near vanished and rightly so. What was Scunthorpe United has been dismantled by the EGO and laid bare are the bones. Leadership is shocking, how to build a team seems a lost hope.
Mr Hill should have been released 12 games before last seasons end. The league position was surrendered and one person was responsible. Needed someone who wanted to prove a point about being a league manager.

August 29, 2022 at 9:42 am #243813So when we paid more money, we got better players and now we pay less money we have worse players? Interesting.

August 29, 2022 at 10:28 am #243816Suspect ogle and carver recommended Middlesbrough lad as for the one from Blackpool,do we have any connection with Blackpool??
Oh. Maybe 😬August 29, 2022 at 11:35 am #243819Thomas has near vanished and rightly so.
Eh? He played 24 times for QPR last season and has made 2 appearances for them so far this season.
August 29, 2022 at 11:52 am #243823Don’t know if it is allowed, but couldn’t our young players be sent to better academy’s just to see a different insight into how they work, how they can better their game, training facilities.maybe on a month’s stay, .Obviously they could not get match time, but it might give them something to aspire too.I think it would be far beneficial to a young player than shipping them off to cleethorpes and the likes.Mark Jackson at Leeds has been a top coach at under 18 / 23 level there,I’m sure daws must have lots of connections.we have just taken in a Middlesbrough lad ,we could have asked if we could send one of our youth to their academy as part of the deal. Just an idea maybe the f a don’t allow it

I never said that had nothing to do with it but you still need players with the physicality and mobility to get around the pitch effectively. I’m not entirely sure we have those type of midfielders.
August 29, 2022 at 2:00 pm #243838If we get relegated again will we even have an academy. A move to part time, ground share with Bottesford seems
more likely at the minute. -
