Scarborough Athletic, originally priced at 20/1 for promotion by the bookies (14th after ourselves) Last year we beat them 4-1 at the Attis on August Bank Holiday Monday, drawing at their place in February.
This season they started reasonably well:
Radcliffe (a3-3) Rushall (h3-0) Chorley(a2-1) Farsley (h 2-1) Chester (a2-3) South Shields (h1-2) and drawing 0-0 at home to Kings Lynn. Last league game, they drew 1-1 at Alfreton. By their results, they don’t appear to have a problem scoring league goals (14) it’s keeping the opposition out that is difficult for them(11)and a look at their video highlights shows why. With Ritchie Bennett (26)or Frank Mullen (9)leading the line and 2 playing off the central striker slightly wider, the excellent two footed Harry Green (10) and Dom Tier(7), Scarborough are a potent attacking force, the tall strikers winning the ball in the air, the skilful ones posing a threat on the floor. Cam Wilson 20 is in their squad, but not a regular starter. Defensively however they can be shambolic, failing to mark players in the box or close players down approaching their penalty area. They have been vulnerable to the long throw and corners where their failure to deal with the bouncing ball in the box was costly. Like us, they had a home cup replay on Tuesday night against lower league opposition and scored 5 goals. Given that both teams have had a game midweek, I don’t think that will significantly affect the result either way on Saturday. My view is that we will do massively well to keep a clean sheet, and we are unlikely to do that be sitting back and playing defensively. However by attacking their weak defending and with good finishing then, as Chester and South Shields have shown, Scarborough are not impregnable.
The other scouting note is that,IMHO, Green is the sort of player we may want to recruit as a Callum Robert’s replacement, should Callum move on at the end of his current contract.

September 18, 2024 at 11:20 am #290954As Phil says, Scarborough won their fa cup replay last night, also scored 5.
A certain Cam Wilson got one of their goals.September 18, 2024 at 2:23 pm #290956They did score 5, they also conceded 2 whereas we recorded a clean sheet.
In our 5 last night it allowed some others more input up front and scored the goals which hopefully boosts their confidence.
September 18, 2024 at 2:54 pm #290957Enjoying the scouting reports Phil.
Do they still have Ryan Whitely in goal? Remember him playing well in the away leg last year.
Chester are beginning to put some good form together and will likely be hot on our heels. Need to continue to be ruthless and grind a result out by any means necessary; Whitehall being fit or not could play a huge part in whether that happens or not.
September 18, 2024 at 3:49 pm #290958Never a good time for injuries but Carlton’s could hardly have been timed worse.
He would have had 2 full games to get match sharp and been available for Scarborough should Whitehall not make it.
September 18, 2024 at 4:04 pm #290959S’boro 2-4 S’thorpe @ 66/1… £10 bet.

September 19, 2024 at 4:01 pm #290974This fixture has got a few goals in it for sure ..
im going 3-3
September 20, 2024 at 12:09 am #290991From AB’s pre match interview it looks like we will be without Whitehall (groin) and possibly Scales (dead leg) on Saturday, with Carlton is awaiting the results of a scan. We may be a little light!
September 20, 2024 at 3:42 am #290992Having already predicted a high scoring draw i have decided to go with my head n change that to a high scoring loss .. listening to AB re injuries and the pitch etc just makes me think Scarboro will nick it… we got to loose sometime could well be tomorrow… just know Bennet n Cam Wilson will play a blinder but also Boro do look pretty tasty up front (think its Tear danger man) so our lot gotta be well up for it in defense.
At least the weather looks nice so the candy floss quoffing stroll along the prom may soften the blow if the result goes against us.
Hope im wrong ..its been known to happen before.
September 20, 2024 at 6:37 am #290993September 20, 2024 at 8:18 am #2909943-2 to Boro looks tempting for a sneaky 10 quid wager at 35/1 ..

Fitzsimons
Barrows Evans Boyce Nicholson Denton
Roberts Clunan Brogan
Fishburn Beestin
Subs Kuoguan, Kelly, Law, Rowley, Shrimpton, Campbell.Starting 11 not too shabby, bench a striker light but not doom & gloom IMO.
Time to get a loanee in?September 20, 2024 at 9:56 am #290996light weight in attack was bound to happen at some point running with such a small squad just come earlier than expected… defense needs to play well tomorrow or we get beat for sure.
September 20, 2024 at 11:23 am #291004I agree with Cassidystash as to the lineup. However, I don’t think it will be enough, 2-1 to Scarborough.
September 20, 2024 at 3:39 pm #291010I’ll go 3-2 Scarborough win. Att 2750.
As for pre-match drinking I know a few Scarborough fans. Their main watering hole is the Valley Bar (it’s a 5 min walk to the ground from there) if you fancy a bit of banter. Or there’s plenty of pubs on Falsgrave within walking distance of the ground.

September 20, 2024 at 11:40 pm #291022I’m going for a Scarborough win, the way we are playing (results aside) we are due a defeat.

September 21, 2024 at 2:08 pm #291035Are we starting with 6 defenders today? Seems a bit excessive. Hope Alfie has his shooting boots on
