Yep I always go in person, buy and pick up there and then. I realise not everybody can do that and I sympathise there should be no problems Awaywego with what you wanted to do and what you should expect. It’s beyond shite and sums up the lack of professionalism in the way the club is run.

Not sure if you have access to the internet and a printer? If you have you can buy tickets and print them off from your home if you have.

I was really miffed when my normal route of a quick phone call and collection from the corner booth disappeared because of lack of phone response. Sure there are other ways to sort it … my sister can collect for me or I can do the internet thing ( though the first time of asking led to a problem at the turnstile because it couldn’t read my print out!!!) We know there are big staff reductions … but you’d have thought that preserving basic ticket purchase channels was a bit of a no brainier. Maybe it’s not just Peter’s devastation of the Club. Maybe it’s also part of this inhumane societal drive to get everything on the internet even though some of us old uns like human contact and others are not so tekky. One reason you can hardly find a high street bank … and if you do there’s a queue of old folk halfway to the door.

Went in yesterday to get tickets and only one person working and had to let the phone ring as she had to serve the people in there.

One reason you can hardly find a high street bank … and if you do there’s a queue of old folk halfway to the door.

It’s the putting of profits before people’s needs JI, particularly the needs of minorities. It’s much cheaper to close the bank, make staff unemployed, and force people to go online.
It’s the modern Tory way – consider the financial cost/benefit of doing something, not the value, social or otherwise.

If we’re going to go political isn’t it the Tory’s who are pushing back aren’t they the ones who want people back at the desks Jacobs Reece Mogg left them a note which didn’t go down to well for government workers, aren’t they the ones resisting internet voting for industrial action making people make an effort instead of taking the easy route, the biggest enemy is people themselves most are selfish don’t give a flying f about anyone else, banking habits, young/old, travel cars/buses you get the drift.

This is rapidly heading for ‘non footie’ if we’re not careful …. But I am more than 90% with Gurney on this. Commercial and economic interests too easily override basic social .. even humanitarian interests… in far too many decisions. The closure or relocation of Post Office branches is another prime example. In Scunny’s case surely staffing the ticket office phone from say 10 – 4 on a Thursday and Friday before a Saturday match would be doable … and might even more than pay for itself in the long run. ( Not 100% agreement, Gurney. First because it’s not just a Tory issue. It’s the tension between commercial/economic interests and social/customer interests which every shade of Govt, Business and football club has to navigate. And where does the reference to ‘minorities’ fit in? When I tried to phone nobody knew that I was an Afro Caribbean lesbian.)

Type Scunthorpe United tickets into Google, select the seats you would like, pay with your debit card, and tickets in your e-mail inbox instantly. On matchday show your phone at the turnstile and walk in, its the way I do it, very easy and very quick, never had an issue.

Trying to get something to eat and drink in the ground however is a completely different matter!

Based on a few of the comments above, part of the problem is that some people don’t like change. But ‘profits before people’ at the club is very evident too.

Do you have the right number? I had a problem a while ago and I think it was due to having an old number to contact them on. Try 01724 747 670 (remember that the ticket office isn’t open for business until 10AM too).

You can also ping @SUFCTickets on Twitter. They respond pretty quick on there, at least they did for me when I wanted to sort out my daughters York City match ticket. And finally you can try the online ticket portal:
    https://www.sufctickets.com/scunthorpeUnited/ASP/bookTickets.asp?
and print off your ticket, save it to your phone, or show the email on your mobile when you get to the ground.

And where does the reference to ‘minorities’ fit in? When I tried to phone nobody knew that I was an Afro Caribbean lesbian.)

An Afro-Caribbean lesbian! Hilarious, Justiron, how very droll of you!

Fact is, you’ve a lot in common. If you’re elderly and / or a pensioner, as far as banks are concerned or pretty much any other public or private organisation, statistically you are part of a minority. A different one to hers, but a minority, nevertheless.

Plus, the bank knows that most retired folk are neither wealthy nor earn an income, so they won’t make much money out of you, unless you own and decide to re-mortgage/release equity on your house (assuming you own one).

Moreover, elderly customers are more likely to remain loyal to their bank, no matter what. So if you’re not happy with banking services, what do they care? Why should they?

I mean, they know very well that many just dodder in, tie up the cashier’s time because they want to chat, before withdrawing a pension or something insignificant, and can’t manage the technology too well. So why should the bank bother about them?

This sort of belief – that all organisations should operate like private ones, aiming for profits at all cost, and prioritising shareholder value over the public need, especially the needs of minorities, really accelerated in the 1980s under Thatcher. De-nationalisation was part of this, hence my comment.

The idea was that the market would deliver efficiency and satisfaction, because if you weren’t happy, you could just take your custom elsewhere. But the reality is that you often can’t, or won’t, or if you do, it’s the same old story.

But you’re right about other parties, Labour included, now having to wrestle with the same issue – the growing recognition among the public that the private sector has been ripping us off for years and ignoring social need, and reform is badly needed.

So, remember, as a member of a minority you actually have more in common with your black Sapphic sister than you first thought.

There was a post on here saying someone turned up at one of the games last minute and wanted to pay in, but was turned away.

Now we aren’t a football league club anymore get rid of this “pay on the day” rubbish. might make a bit extra money.

You can pay on the day but it costs more which, frankly, I think is daft.

The story you mention was someone trying to get in 10 minutes after kick-off.

You can get early bird prices up till 3 hours before kickoff that’s how daft it is and you can pay in cash at the corner office wtf, why not pay on the gate itself not like there’s no one behind the turnstile spent the money on technology for no benefit. Genuinely you can’t get in after kickoff?

I don’t understand why clubs don’t have at least one turnstile with a contactless payment device if they’re so worried about having cash on the gate. People can then pay their way in on the gate – surely you want to make it as easy as possible for people to part with their cash?

EFL and premier League big boys riding rough shod over Grimsby, forcing them to cancel a league game to play a pizza game against Man city, 35 players in their elite development squad but because of under 23 international call ups they can’t field a team on the original dates against cods and Derby, absolutely disgusting they should never been invited into the competition in the first place.

They “invited” themselves. Held the EFL to ransom over “solidarity” payments. Without acceptance of their B teams, the funding to lower league sides would have been cut.
