Reports the striker where after is Sam burns from blackburn rovers! 8 goals in 9 games for the u23, been on loan at FC United of Manchester 2 goals in 6 games
January 1, 2022 at 9:18 pm #220336Alan Nixon reporting it and he’s always spot on. Small-ish goal scorer, extracted the urine in premier league 2. Unknown quantity but what did we expect ?
Does this mean a big and nasty will be coming on to partner him ?
January 1, 2022 at 9:21 pm #220337Still think Calvin Andrew could end up with us, Mr Hill knows him and always gave us troulble when he played against us
January 1, 2022 at 9:22 pm #220339Aye, he’ll probably be match fit by March.
January 1, 2022 at 9:27 pm #220342Calvin Andrew
Can’t see it. 35yrs old and only played 11 games in the whole of 2021. I know Hill used to love him but I think he’s expired now.
January 2, 2022 at 1:48 am #220363I found this from an article about another player, but it looks like confirmation that the loan of Burns is imminent.
“McBride’s U23s scoring partner Sam Burns is another who is set to leave the club on loan, the forward expected to join League Two strugglers Scunthorpe United.”
A diamond in the rough perhaps?

Expired? He was only on the radio yesterday!

Over the Hill then?
January 2, 2022 at 12:16 pm #220392if a 19 year old with half a dozen u23 appearances and a loan at lower non league level is the answer to our current plight we are in trouble, and that is no disrespect to the lad, we are in a dire situation which with the right players could get us clear, yesterday was a clear indication that we fell down miserably in the final third and Howard only had a couple of efforts straight at him.

January 2, 2022 at 1:02 pm #220396Agree Mick.
It sent alarm bells ringing when we brought on the young academy lad for his debut in replacement for Loft. Looked to have raw talent but in no way should be expected to turn a game around for us- especially one as important as that.

January 2, 2022 at 1:47 pm #220401Thing is Swannster has said we’ll have to get by with this embargo. In my opinion he’s pretty much washed his hands of us, he may as well let somebody else in as chairman next season.
If Swann had any ambition left as chairman he would have cleared the embargo.
As a club we deserve better than what he’s offering up. I’d rather he admitted he’s done everything he can at the club, works hard to get interest “if there is any out there” and moves on.
Swann can give the ground back as well while he’s at it !

Got fairies at the bottom of your garden too?
You’ll believe owt if you believe Swann will do either thing.January 2, 2022 at 5:17 pm #220417Spending far too much of other peoples money got us where we are now !! And who was it who did that ?

Young Lewis is talented alright but he will only make cameo appearances this season surely, he’s miles off the men’s game physicality wise as was shown when he got brushed off the ball too easily a couple of times yesterday. Not his fault and he’s a gem for the future but too many full games this season could damage his confidence if he keeps getting flattened and losing the ball as a result.

January 3, 2022 at 3:58 am #220430I checked Blackburn u23’s today to see if Burns played and he wasn’t even on the subs bench so appears he’s already on his way down here.

The Blackpool venture due to open this year according to an item in a national paper – Sands Venue to open fully this year. Wonder if this will release some attention or take even more !!

January 3, 2022 at 12:38 pm #220435I agree with pretty much all that has been said, to bring in a young unproven lad from any team is a great risk.
Loft is a big strong battling centre-forward who is a real handful as proven on Boxing Day away at Oldham. The type of striker Mr Hill likes so its a great pity Loft’s head had already been turned away from the Iron as most of his displays show!
Young Lewis did nothing wrong v Carlisle but the decision to replace him for Loft left us without a strike force at all until Scrimshaw came on.
Given what is at stake ie over 70 years of league status which did not come easily in the first place and with National league budgets at phenomenal levels it would be even harder to regain league status.
To sign in-experienced players and potentially allow ours to go to relegation rivals would be a massive own goal.
Seemingly on and off the pitch things had turned a corner, the January transfer window incomings and outgoings are a true test of the Chairman’s nous and football gamesmanship and the message he sends out to the clubs around us.
It may be cheaper in the long run to consign Loft to the reserves, loose him for nothing in the summer rather than allow his goals to keep someone else up.
January 3, 2022 at 3:39 pm #220450Who chose Burns Keith Hill or Swanns son?
January 3, 2022 at 4:45 pm #220454Likely to be Hill with his links to Blackburn
January 3, 2022 at 4:46 pm #220455Let’s hope Hill said to Swann’s son, ” Piss off up to Blackburn and look at this player I like the look of, tell your Dad you’ve found a little gem and then he’ll sign a player I want “. Oh and ” here’s a fiver, buy yourself some sweets on the way up there, there’s a good little boy “.

January 4, 2022 at 4:43 pm #220539Charlie Wilson says we have signed Burns on loan until the end of the season, and Blackburn will then decide if they are going to take up the one year option on him, and Hackney is staying until the end of the season
January 4, 2022 at 5:27 pm #220543Hackney has really kicked on in the last month or so ( no more unnecessary corners given away though please ) and I’m glad he’s staying. As for Sam Burns, welcome young man, may you hit the ground running on the goal trail and I’d like to wish you all the luck in the world, your probably gonna need it.

Welcome!
January 4, 2022 at 11:58 pm #220585Who chose Burns Keith Hill or Swanns son?
I am to understand that Hill and Burns already know each other. Or perhaps they have been introduced through their links to Blackburn Rovers.

He isn’t ! So Keith has that one up his sleeve.

January 5, 2022 at 1:44 pm #220630Talking of info, Scunthorpe have put more tweets out than any other club in the world (until shown otherwise). So we can’t be all that bad on the info side that people make out.

Blimey, at first read I thought it said “One Direction”!
Wouldn’t surprise me if Swann had outsourced our recruitment to a football loving boy band!
