July 6, 2023 at 3:40 pm #265741Fans64 is even money favourite.
July 6, 2023 at 4:07 pm #265745Bit unfair. I know ‘wolfie’ as you call him gets your back up but it’s usually others on here who are calling for sacking the manager far earlier

July 6, 2023 at 4:10 pm #265747I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s WonderGoals. Though, I am sure some have already said they don’t want him, so maybe it’s already been answered.
July 6, 2023 at 4:17 pm #265752If I was a betting man my money would be on SS24. No offence!
July 6, 2023 at 4:31 pm #265753Cassidys tash!
July 6, 2023 at 5:24 pm #265766Who’ll be the first to call for Jimbob’s head this season?
You? Certainly should be first up with the cryptic loaded question meaning that anyway.

Yep, friendlies mean Jack shit, just fitness exercises with results meaning very little, unless your mind wants them to mean something else.

July 8, 2023 at 5:18 pm #266086Even less meaningful with a different side in each half.
July 8, 2023 at 5:29 pm #266089Pre season won’t mean much but if JD cannot get a tune out of the squad he’ll be gone by October. For now he can muck about all he wants.

Winterton on Tuesday evening.
Winterton – NPL Midlands (Level 8)
Brigg – NCEL Div One (Level 10)Let’s see how that goes.
July 8, 2023 at 5:37 pm #266093A few positives, the lad from Aberdeen looks very good, the number 8 whoever he was also very good, worst pitch I’ve ever seen, they let the grass grow to nearly a foot high before cutting it you could still the stalks left on it, good run out for the lads to get the fitness levels up in very trying conditions weather and pitch, and a record crowd of 2100 to boot for them.

Regardless – IMHO a team 4 leagues above the opponents should always be victorious.
Arsenal should always beat an Aldershot
Chelsea should always beat a Chesterfield.
Etc.July 8, 2023 at 5:58 pm #266097Well if that was the case AA then we would never get shock results in the FA Cup and that’s with the lower league team at full strength and the higher placed team playing a mixed 11 at best most of the time.
July 8, 2023 at 6:00 pm #266098It’s why they are,”shock” results?

July 8, 2023 at 6:11 pm #266103Were the goals conceded ‘bad goals’??
July 8, 2023 at 6:16 pm #266104Was there enough evidence to suggest that one GK was better than the other?
July 8, 2023 at 6:20 pm #266105Yes Chapman was poor.
July 8, 2023 at 6:23 pm #266106Chapman gave away their second goal with a lazy clearance under no pressure.

Giant killers, Cup upsets, shock results.
Few and far between.
Regardless – Pre-season or a cup game… we should beat Brigg.
Youth Team used to play clubs of that level in pre-season and performed well.
Are we content to accept the level we’ve fallen to?July 8, 2023 at 8:47 pm #266133We have no choice but to accept reality but you can moan about it as long as you want if it makes you feel better.
July 8, 2023 at 9:23 pm #266137Preseason is pretty meaningless, after all we beat Sheffield Utd about a year ago.
The Brigg game ended early as well.July 9, 2023 at 2:45 am #266151its crazy reading some of the comments on SM .. the reality is , it was a kick about, a friendly , with the whole team swapped at half time on a very poor pitch that rightly so stopped early due to a medical incident … stiffer tests to follow through pre season and hopefully JD will have a better idea of his starting 11 come August and the NLN proper, thats what matters.
Im sure JD n CP are fully aware they will be toast if after the first 10 nln games Scunny arent in and around the top few places scoring and playing decent footy.
Hope the person involved is recovering ok.

Topics: 67There is no such thing as a ‘kick-about’ in professional football.
A kick-about is something kids have in the back ginnel, in the street, on a bit of scrubland / grass.
Every professional should enter every game with the mind set and mentality that they are going out for a win and to deliver that win.
There is no such thing as a ‘friendly’ in professional football.Every player, in every game is under scrutiny from the manager, coaches and in some cases, the directors of clubs.
In addition, scouts and managers of other clubs may be at the game – or even a national scout (U15 to U23 and full)You are playing for your next start, your next contract, your next move in your career. You are playing not only to win but to enhance your profile, to assist your club to be successful, you are playing for your pride and the clubs status & heritage.
You are playing for the fans who spend thousands over a lifetime following their club. The winning mentality can not be turned on or off.
It’s born in to winners and that’s part of the reason that the very best get to the top.
Every game for a professional footballer is a must win game.
You never know who may be watching.
July 9, 2023 at 9:03 am #266159Don’t agree, different games have different objectives. Almost certainly players were looking after themselves yesterday, get fitter, get back to match football with new colleagues and don’t get injured (for example )would be far more important than the result.

July 9, 2023 at 9:38 am #266166You are obviously entitled to your opinion AA …. but no one could ever accuse you, over a lengthy series of posts, of having your cup half full. I thought Cassidy’s post above actually epitomises how a ‘professional’ should have approached yesterday’s game.

July 9, 2023 at 9:50 am #266173Well one things certain AA you weren’t watching, I went I wasn’t disappointed we could have scored an hatfull with better finishing but they weren’t sharp enough that’s what friendlies are all about getting up to full match fitness and sharpness, plus it lets the manager assess who his team is going to be, and he probably learnt more from conceding the 2 goals than the ones we scored.
