According to Radio Humberside
Former Scunthorpe United winger
@ry_coco
says “trial by media has affected both me & my family, emotionally & financially” after recent criminal charges against him were dropped. The 26-year old was released by the #Iron in October 2020 following an internal investigation.
Colclough was set to stand trial at Doncaster Magistrates Court on Monday 12th July charged with assaulting a police officer & criminal damage following his arrest in June of last year. However, the Crown Prosecution Service ruled there was no sufficient evidence to properly convict in court after reviewing the video and audio from the officer’s bodycam.
The case was dismissed with Colclough granted his costs in the case
July 14, 2021 at 2:20 pm #210369Guilty until proved innocent shouldn’t be that way

July 14, 2021 at 3:43 pm #210371It’s the modern world. The mainstream media are driving everything.

July 14, 2021 at 4:56 pm #210373I f he was sacked by the club then he wont have been paid any monies from them. Perhaps he will be chasing the club for the remainder of his contract.

What does this actually mean?

July 14, 2021 at 6:31 pm #210376I found out about Colclough’s arrest on (un)social media.
Doncaster local paper then reported the facts of the arrest. Not sure what they could/should have done differently.
Strictly speaking he has not been found guilty or innocent. Not sufficient evidence to secure a prosecution apparently. This happens many times every day and if the fault lies anywhere it is probably with the police for persusing the case without sufficient evidence.
On a football note the extremely talented footballer that is Ryan Colclough had long since stopped contributing anything positive to the team before this incident. In truth he didn’t contribute very much in his whole Iron career – relative to his talent.
Hopefully he can put this behind him and get his life and his football into a better place.
July 14, 2021 at 6:51 pm #210380Bit like Cliff Richard then? Mk. No sufficient evidence, I thought that made you innocent.
July 14, 2021 at 7:38 pm #210383Certainly doesn’t make you guilty. I think it means the charge or charges have been dropped.
I wouldn’t make a judgement myself as I wasn’t there.
July 15, 2021 at 12:10 pm #210403I would too but can’t see it as Swann wouldn’t sanction it, And after wondering around non league for a while now it would be a gamble ! But a fully fit colclough would be head and shoulders above what we have at the minute
July 15, 2021 at 3:18 pm #210411An in form Coco gets attention, but needs to think how responsible he was for where he is now.
July 15, 2021 at 3:24 pm #210412Non-proven (Scotland), case dismissed, insufficient evidence and not guilty etc may mean innocent but, frankly, usually don’t.
When I was a Chairman of the Bench some years ago – I often acquitted people whom the Bench believed to be guilty.
On the ‘balance of probabilities’ every single one would have been convicted. (Without exception.)
But that definition is radically different to ‘beyond reasonable doubt’ – the norm to which Justices operate in criminal trials.
This is the right and proper way for the system to be applied. -
