The second half showed the system works when the ball is moved quickly with accurate passing and the wing backs bombing on, it was a more entertaining game as a result and we scored two excellent second half goals. Fishburn deserves a run of games after that performance, chuffed for the young man he worked really hard and got more involved with the play second half, I thought it was more than half decent tonight and pleased Carlton got a run out near the end, it was very positive stuff overall.

October 22, 2024 at 10:45 pm #292222Great finish from Alfie, but the third was a goal of the week contender with a number of players involved and Callum went through on a maze to finish, certainly better to watch than recent home games, hope we are going to keep this system
October 22, 2024 at 10:54 pm #292223Well it’s a start from where we’ve been of late even if they were a poor side, but you can only beat who’s in front of you and they did, hope Butler encouragers the team to attack at Southport and keep this one bit of positivity in a while going.
Ps, crowd on the lower side just goes to show fans will soon walk if there not entertained.1 user thanked author for this post.
October 22, 2024 at 11:16 pm #292225Iron-awe summed it up perfectly, moving the ball quickly ( May I add “in the middle third”) enabling the full backs to have more space to bomb on. The second half was pleasing on the eye ,contrasting to the awful tactics of the first half.
October 23, 2024 at 4:51 am #292226Last night perhaps showed that it is more the way you play rather than the system itself.
WBs pushed 15 – 20 yards further forward. For the first time in weeks we had a bit of space to work in.
I agree about Fishburn – his best game for the club and by a margin.
Welcome back Carlton!
Clunan was simply super.
Even so, we made hard work of a pretty basic task, at times.
Nicholson lost the ball very badly on two occasions – and could have cost us.
Southport will be tougher.2 users thanked author for this post.
October 23, 2024 at 6:22 am #292227I feel it’ll be 1-1 (£5 @ 8/1)
I’ll take 0-1 (£5 @ 20/1) too… just in case our forwards maintain their outstanding form… lolEcstatic to have lost!
October 23, 2024 at 6:57 am #2922281st half was poor. Lots of sideways and backwards passing.
Nicholson passing was woeful at times glad Fitz was sharp on one occasion.
Goal couldn’t really tell who had scored tbh.2nd half was much better playing with pace and a attacking mindset which is what we are all craving.
Plenty of chances too.See AB it can be done just be a bit more adventurous!
October 23, 2024 at 7:10 am #292229It’s a good job Butler has the Bru tactical tag team to realise the error of his ways

Aye when we are poor it’s Butler’s fault, when we are good it’s down to us lot of course, nowt to do with the players either way lol.
October 23, 2024 at 9:23 am #292231Much better!! Not top notch but a big improvement.
FBs (sorry WBs) played further forward.
Passes quicker and more accurate (some notable exceptions)
More attacking intent with 2 forwards + Alfie.
Well done Andy.October 23, 2024 at 10:38 am #292232Obviously nobody does listen to the Bru but it was pretty evident that we were set up more attack minded focus for the evening even if it took 45 mins to shake the slow play off our backs.
All I go for is some endeavour and excitement and 2nd half showed that it’s possible.Low crowd seeing as though it was half term. Maybe some on there jollies.
October 23, 2024 at 11:09 am #292233All round good performance, Nicholson is a worry he needs to improve a lot, Barrows also needs to crispen up his passing. Let’s be fair Rushall were very poor and held off and gave us some space but you would take that level of excitement moving forward

October 23, 2024 at 11:17 am #292234Rushall were very leggy last twenty minutes the spaces we were finding in different areas of the pitch were very noticeable late on, those Laughton woods runs certainly payed off last night.
October 23, 2024 at 12:00 pm #292236Absolutely. When we’re getting results with a decent performance, those runs are a big part of the reason. When we’re not, Butler needs to concentrate more on coaching passing skills

The dull football has driven them away!

October 23, 2024 at 3:06 pm #292245Good reports. Pleased to see fishburn receiving positive feedback and Carlton finally getting minutes in.
Couple of winnable games upcoming, must be looking at a maximum return.

October 23, 2024 at 9:27 pm #292260Well it was a much better 2nd half but 1st half was poor again. Nicholson’s passing is abysmal and almost cost us the 1 goal lead, which could have changed the game. He’s a liability and should be dropped for Boyce. We looked much better 2nd half for the width created by the wing backs getting forward, which Rushall allowed. They were awful though, the worst team we’ve played this season. Better teams will know that pinning our width back nullifies our attacking threat.
Rushall were very leggy last twenty minutes the spaces we were finding in different areas of the pitch were very noticeable late on, those Laughton woods runs certainly payed off last night.
I reckon that’s down to many of their players having done a full days graft before travelling 4 hours to GP to play 90 minutes of football. If we’de lost to lads that had spent the day delivering mail, erecting scaffolding and fixing roofs then there would be cause for concern. We should certainly have a big advantage over part time teams in the midweek games. Less Laughton woods runs and more basic passing drills needed for some of our players me thinks.
