Dean hinted at end of his post match interview that he’s bringing back Ferris due to lack of options. I fully expect Roberts to be out for the season now considering his injury ridden past.
I’d try and move him on next season along with Law. How many injuries has Law picked up now ?
I read when we signed Law that he was injured a fair bit at Mansfield but never expected him to pick up the amount of injuries he’s picked up so far this season. Every time he get’s back a short time later he’s gone again.

January 28, 2024 at 12:02 am #279965Ferris should be brought back straight away and thjen play him on the wing, he was really given much of a run of games, and is playing well on his present loan spell, and concider him for the Tamworth game. Whitehall will be available and Butterfield ready for a starting position, but we will really miss Roberts, but he picks up too many injuries. We are so light weight up front, and certainly lack goal scorers.

January 28, 2024 at 1:11 am #279966That was the big gamble with Roberts. We all knew when we signed him. Law is forever picking up injuries so he’s no better.
Before people start chipping in with “it’s not their fault, they don’t ask to get injured”, I already know that but at the end of the day we can’t afford to have players on the books who are nearly always injured.
Let’s be honest the squad is a great squad of players for this level but we lack any real depth. Realistically we need another striker and another wide player in addition to recalling Sembie Ferris to bulk the squad out but as we all know we’re not in a financial position to do that.
If it’s one thing that will screw us over it will be the lack of squad depth compounded by the transfer embargo. Losing Smith wasn’t great but made a hell of a lot worse with having 2 sick note wide players on the books.
I dread to think what we’ll do if one of the only 2 strikers we have are out injured for any length of time.

So… it’s not a great squad.

Ive never been convinced this squad is all its cracked up to be,play well in fits n starts but not a lot of consistency in anyone single game let alone stringing a winning run of multiple fixtures together.
DSF surely got to be recalled now.
January 28, 2024 at 10:05 am #279974At the level we find ourselves at we probably have to gamble on these types of players in order to get a bit of quality in the squad.
Butterfield arrived with a similar reputation but so far (touch wood) we got the best out of him.
Win some, lose some!
January 28, 2024 at 10:09 am #279975Will the club be able to afford the likes of Roberts next season anyway?
January 28, 2024 at 10:38 am #279976No choice if he’s under contract.
January 28, 2024 at 12:24 pm #279979Sadly we do seem to have become a home for friends of the physio. It is a shame though.
January 28, 2024 at 3:24 pm #279990No choice if he’s under contract.
Depending on how bad his current injury is, I’d be tempted to move him on next season. Question is, who is going to take the gamble on him with his injury record ?
January 28, 2024 at 5:26 pm #279996The lad has just got himself fit and has been unfortunate to pull a hamstring. Happens to footballers all the time.
He did win us the game yesterday by the way. I’ll be delighted if he’s still here next season.

January 28, 2024 at 6:01 pm #279999Burny leave Roberts alone, his first injury was a freak and he needed an operation, the second a head injury and could happen to anyone, yesterday it was a hamstring injury that can happen, but he soon bounces back, he recovers well not like some who seem to be out forever
January 28, 2024 at 8:57 pm #280010was a hamstring injury that can happen
I agree but he’s had a long history of dodgy hamstrings way before we signed him. Let’s see how long he’s out for first, I like him but he’s sadly an accident waiting to happen.
Putting that to one side, he’s on a fair wedge too. Over 2k I think I read not long back.
If he’s out for the season or close to it, he can’t be kept on for next season. Too risky for the financial out lay.
January 28, 2024 at 9:40 pm #280011The Board have to put the club first for at least the next 2 years. Unless of course some benefactor steps forward, but as yet the euro is evading my grasp.

The board have to put the club first all the time in the future, we have been too close to oblivion due to idiots passing themselves off as businessmen who thought they knew what they were doing. Well maybe they did but it didn’t involve the best interests of the club or it’s fans, the club’s sustainability must always come first from now and always IMO. We shall just have to reign in our expectations until we can safely push on in a sustainable financial way.

January 29, 2024 at 9:26 am #280023The best interests of the club is to achieve league status nothing more nothing less, this sustainability stuff is bollocks were a football club and football clubs lose money, the fans are doing there bit but that isn’t sustainable unless we achieve promotion this season or the next, the board will need to step up with the finances.
January 29, 2024 at 9:49 am #280025Michelle and the Board are working towards sustainability awaywego. They’ve a good track record on business and clearly understand what needs to be done. I’ll take their word over yours though agreed achieving league status is the ambition
January 29, 2024 at 10:49 am #280027We’ll see the ambition with the players we let go and the new ones we acquire for the next season. Here’s hoping!.
January 29, 2024 at 10:57 am #280028We’ll let go the OOCs that won’t accept reduced terms. I still think reduced terms here will be competitive enough to keep at least some, depends what league we’re in I suppose. With the exception of Butters, Roberts and maybe Fitz and Ogle there’s unlikely to be much interest higher than NL.

Roberts last real run of games was for Notts County and how long ago was that ?
I like him as a player as I think he clearly has something but you have to seriously wake up because if he’s out now for the season or a t least close to it he’s again broken down and has contributed very little for his wages.
Paying supposedly over 2k for a player which offers very little due to injury proneness at this level particularly is absolute madness.

January 29, 2024 at 5:53 pm #280042Have to agree with WG, I feel desperately sorry for Roberts who is absolute quality and he was just getting into his stride fitness wise after his last operation. I have to back up what I said earlier, we have to be sustainable and having a player, no matter how good, sat in the treatment room for two thirds of a season on that money is simply not viable for a club in our situation. Just hope the lad recovers quicker than a lot of people seem to think he will after this hamstring injury but look how long it took Beestin and he’s still not fully fit yet.
January 29, 2024 at 9:13 pm #280043Nothing I have against Roberts as I like him as a player but same goes for Law, how many times has he broken down this season ?. I would personally move him on because we need every player contributing. Law has seemingly spent more time out than he has on the pitch.
Beestin for the last few seasons has picked up bad injuries, he’s another you have to look at what we’re getting from him and it’s just not enough.
Dean has just said that the initial diagnosis from the medical team is 4-6 weeks with Roberts but won’t be fully sure until he’s had a scan tomorrow.
Only problem is with Roberts is that if it’s 6 weeks, we’ll have to put another 2-3 weeks on top because we’ll have to be so careful with him. Then when he’s back he’s going to have to be slowly drip fed into the team again to get him back up to speed.
Potentially looking at 10 weeks to get him right again.
