I waited until I’d seen the highlights before posting but can anyone explain how Newport’s defender wasn’t sent off for pulling over Matheson for the penalty? Not attempt to play the ball, stopping Matheson from having a clear goalscoring opportunity. Not sure what reason there could be for not sending him off – indeed, I don’t think he was even booked! Bizarre.
Best thing Matheson did all game btw, otherwise he barely put a pass right, a very disappointing performance for a player who is presumably supposed to improve the team.
That was a five fold improvement on his performance at Exeter, which tells you how bad he was there!

Jesus wept!
Without wanting to be blasphemous, Jesus has been weeping all season!
He’s not been on his own either.
it’s over 100 games since anyone was sent off against us so it wasn’t a surprise.
Good knowledge Mick!
Didn’t they bring in some “double punishment” bollocks where if it’s a penalty it’s not a red card as the penalty is “sufficiant” punishment. Outside the area it would be a free kick and a red card.
Doesn’t help much when you miss the pen though.

To the best of my knowledge, this is only if the player makes a “genuine attempt” to play the ball. So if Onarise had been last man for his penalty foul, he’d not have been sent off, because he was clearly trying to win the ball even though it was a terrible tackle. But if he’d pulled him over, like with our penalty, the ref could have given the penalty AND the red. That’s my understanding anyway.
Should change it to, if the penalty is missed send him OFF!
