Over the past few weeks there has been lots of lively debate on here about the need for new faces. Keen observers of the Iron have identified our shortfalls (in the playing system and the players within it) and others have suggested names. The club remain unmoved. We can speculate about the reasons for this but I suspect a huge contributor will be money ( or lack of it). Anyone care to produce a recruitment strategy that would a) recruit players that can do a job ( that job being to get us promoted) and b) be within current budgetary constraints. By all means name names, why you feel we need them , and how we might recruit them?

Board have had a delicate balancing job. Got to be as competitive as possible yet the debts of the club had to be reduced substantially and with Michelle saying they were now below £100K they have done a great job pulling everyone together.

They are not going to risk the club so the recruit will be very measured. Even though no one has been signed I would not be surprised if talks had not been held. As to strategy well I don’t think wages are the problem because there are some players who have joined clubs on much lower budgets. I prefer 442 so think the players we have would be fine but we play 3511 or 352 or 3142.

Restarting the academies will be a good start but they will take several years to produce their 1st players.

So need to know the formation to be played before you can reruit.

Academies to costly and won’t get one till we gain league status again.
And who in the right mind would want Draws back again.

    Strategy 1. An Academy

Pro’s “They’re one of our own!”
Con’s Expensive to set up and run. High attrition rate.

Key is the loan market, potential contribution from parent club and no long term liability with a contract. It has to be right though. Dean had many players who he instantly disliked or didn’t know how to employ productively, but he was thick as mince. Butler had league experience and hopefully connections.
Get some attacking loan players in and we might not need too many additions on contract. The standard in this league is utter dross so it shouldn’t take much to find a good contributor

I have a terrible memory, can you remind me of the regular first teamers produced by the academy over the last 10 years or so. Thanks.

Academies too costly and won’t get one till we gain league status again.

And who in the right mind would want Draws back again.

He’ll be on good moolah, pension and a company car with the EFL as an area manager.
So much easier to be an assessor than an assessee.
    Would you return?

I’m guessing that scouting is done electronically these days. Or do scouts actually get off their arses and go and watch players?

We definitely need a reinforcement or two but I’d rather we bide our time and sign one of our top targets than waste money on panic signings like last season. We cant afford any more Youmbiesque youngsters that are simply signed to make up the numbers. They have to be oven ready.

I have long argued against having too many loan players at the club. That does not mean none whatsoever.
Youngsters can be the greatest potential risk, IMHO. Can we not borrow a player or two for a month with a view to extending their stay if they help to improve us?
That should not be too costly if it all goes pear shaped.

Was promised money was available for a couple more players if needed, i believe that the loan market was mentioned.
Read plenty of comments someone is needed and has being for the last 5/6 weeks funnily enough not seen any comments saying we don’t need new additions.
When will we get these new additions?
Suppose the happy clappers will be out in force tomorrow after we beat Rushall but it’ll only be papering over the cracks

If we beat Rushall and so are still top I’ll probably have a bit of a clap. I’m a bit weird I guess.

AB bigging up Carlton even though he’s not fit, reckon if our current forwards keep misfiring he’ll still wait for Carlton to play before he moves for another striker.

At least AB said we’ll be on the front foot tomorrow and if we’re aiming for promotion we’ve got to put in performances in the run of games coming up. A bloody Amen bring it on.

I think if you set up to get a point away at Chester and succeed you must set up up on the front foot in the next home game against lesser opposition, indeed every home game should be set up to win in this division IMO.

Would be looking at doing something Lincoln did years ago and get a jazzed PowerPoint presentation ready and send RoJ and Lee to all the major football clubs within 90minutes drive with the intention of getting young talent sent here.

Loan market has been hit & miss for us in recent years but you can’t deny we’ve had some talent through.

With the purse strings so tight we would be foolish not to explore it is an option.
