Are we expecting anymore in before start of pre-season? Bit of a threadbare squad at the minute –
Will it be trialist A, B, C etc and a few loans!June 22, 2024 at 2:30 pm #287265Yes!
June 22, 2024 at 2:36 pm #287267I was hoping for a signing or two this week but not even a single rumour.
It would be good to get two or three in next week ready for preseason Monday week.
June 22, 2024 at 2:44 pm #287268There is not even a * insert player name * …. Worth a punt thread this year. Sad times
June 22, 2024 at 2:46 pm #287269Not even any suggestions from WG.
Close seasons just not what they used to be back in the day.
June 22, 2024 at 3:19 pm #287271My memory’s not what it was but didn’t Butler indicate that there were two specific players he was targeting. Can’t believe that they were Brogan and Fishburn. Is he waiting to see which of the legends can still cut it in NLN or if any of the lucky fans might make the grade? As above I’d like to have seen the squad complete, ideally by Monday but certainly before July 1st.
June 22, 2024 at 3:26 pm #287272The only thing I expect is somebody demanding a statement
June 22, 2024 at 3:55 pm #287273Think we are pretty much on track; most of the remaining signings you’d imagine are going to be primarily squad players.
The loan market is where we could have a significant advantage over teams at this level
June 22, 2024 at 5:22 pm #287275Would be good for a couple more before pre season starts but maybe finances won’t allow it. Has been a quiet period
June 22, 2024 at 5:56 pm #287277There has to be some activity sooner rather than later, we don’t yet have enough for a match day squad.
(And where’s this assistant manager?)June 22, 2024 at 6:13 pm #287278Yes, forgot about this assistant manager! Is he even coming?
June 22, 2024 at 6:55 pm #287279I think Michelle in one of her interviews said assistant was sorted but couldn’t be announced until July 1st.

June 22, 2024 at 7:48 pm #287282Not even any suggestions from WG.

Don’t encourage him.
We’ll have a list of 20 before the days out…..

June 26, 2024 at 8:12 am #287326Have we got a new KIT MAN yet ? They are as vital as any.

Indeed forgot about that position.
June 26, 2024 at 12:09 pm #287334Oh good back to getting players from the bargain bucket near the start of the season, being there done that it’s not the way. Suppose it saves the club a months wage he ho.
BBH.June 26, 2024 at 12:57 pm #287336Oh good back to getting players from the bargain bucket near the start of the season, being there done that it’s not the way. Suppose it saves the club a months wage he ho.
BBH.Lots of enquiries from seasoned players and or their agents according to LT..alas come July when most decent players have been snapped up it tends just to leave the bottom of the barrel offerings, was /still hoping for 2 or 3 higher profile signings but sounds like it will be young hungry unknowns and whose to say thats a bad thing IF THEY CLICK under AB n Co
June 26, 2024 at 1:05 pm #287337Give it a rest. Gk to come in shortly and it sounds like the RB, and two wide players will come in via trialist players. There are loads and loads of good players who have been released.
We have targeted 5 players who are coming in as trialists who are all deemed worthy/good enough of a first team spot, so they must be of a certain standard.
Plus we’ll have money left for the loan market. CB we’re set, as we are at LB and up front. Only really RB, out wide and maybe a genuine big athletic defensive midfielder short of having a good squad.
June 26, 2024 at 1:26 pm #287338Not just “bottom of the barrel” IFA, as WG says there will be EFL players looking for a club come end of contract time and release by existing clubs. Whilst I do have concerns about the quality of recruits the biggest concern for me is a players motive for coming here. “Can’t get anything else” and “It’s another years pay towards retirement” are not the kind of players I want in my team.

June 26, 2024 at 1:58 pm #287342As Turnbull hinted we already have enough experience in the squad. I hope the majority of trialists are youthful, athletic and with a big point to prove. We had enough of the pension topping up during the Swann era.

June 26, 2024 at 2:22 pm #287343Fair point but I wouldn’t mind a couple that I’ve heard of. (As long as they are here to perform)
June 26, 2024 at 2:42 pm #287345Being the biggest club in the division should be a good attraction to better players IMO, playing in front of bigger crowds then elsewhere in this division at the AA but ultimately money as always will be the deciding factor particularly for seasoned pros.
June 26, 2024 at 4:19 pm #287346Location also a factor. No good looking at players released by, for example, AFC Wimbledon if he’s got kids at school and has never been north of Watford. Any of those released by Donny or The Cods any good? Is Corbett still available?

If they’re deemed worthy of a starting spot then why are they coming in on trial as opposed to being signed immediately?
June 26, 2024 at 7:03 pm #287352It goes without saying that im not happy with Turnbull running (or seems to be) the show.
I know from what people have said Butler cant speak very well but I like the manager to do all the recruiting and be the front man, don’t get me wrong Turnbull has brought some stars in the past so if he’s found a gem great, but his last few years with Swanny recruiting was disastrous.June 26, 2024 at 7:27 pm #287354As Turnbull hinted we already have enough experience in the squad. I hope the majority of trialists are youthful, athletic and with a big point to prove. We had enough of the pension topping up during the Swann era.
The worst players in my era were signed during Swann’s tenure. People at the end of their careers earning silly money and we kind of let it slide due to fond memories of Beagrie , Crozzer and Barra

Isn’t that how we ended up with Beestin? Nobody else would touch him.
As someone once sang “Have a little patience”
