Has passed away it has just been announced, RIP our Vice President.
November 15, 2020 at 3:46 pm #197549Very sad. Lots of memories when he was between rhe sticks for us. Makes you realise how old you are getting
November 15, 2020 at 3:50 pm #197551Great memories from watching Ray as a young lad starting his career at the OSG, I was only about eleven at the time and the great reception he received from the Donny Road End when he returned with Spurs in that pre season friendly so long ago. RIP Ray, you were a brilliant goalkeeper and a great ambassador for the game.
November 15, 2020 at 3:51 pm #197552Yep the main one being the seven he let in against the cods,RIP.
November 15, 2020 at 3:54 pm #197553Such sad news. A true legend of English football.
November 15, 2020 at 4:43 pm #197558Great keeper for us, I remember one striker describing him as uncanny. At that time he had to be.
November 15, 2020 at 4:50 pm #197561Never saw for the Iron. Too young. My favourite England Keeper of all time.
November 15, 2020 at 4:57 pm #197562Very sad news. Our footballing heroes seem to be leaving us at quite a pace these days.
November 15, 2020 at 6:05 pm #197563I always preferred him to his great rival, Peter Shilton.
November 15, 2020 at 6:29 pm #197564Very sad news, a gentleman of football and a proud ex player of our club. He has passed at a young age.
It does make you wonder about how long retired professional footballers live, how does it compare with other vocations or sports professionals in particular?
RIP.
November 15, 2020 at 7:05 pm #197568Very sad news. Always felt very proud in those days of our players Clemence and Keegan who went on to achieve so much in the game.
November 15, 2020 at 9:11 pm #197570They didn’t do too badly did they once they got a chance.
Ray Clemence showed what CLASS is. Gentleman on and off the field, a credit to himself, the clubs he played for and the fans who supported him. Look at that welcome the Kop gave him when he returned with Spurs ! Said it all.
RIP MR CLEMENCE pleased we could start it all off together. Condolences to his family, friends and colleagues.
November 16, 2020 at 11:01 am #197582Great picture on the club website today of Ray and Sir Ian together supporting the Iron at Glanford Park, how brilliant that our club is associated with these two exceptionally talented sportsmen. Such a shame Ray left us all so early.
November 16, 2020 at 12:00 pm #197590Always thought it was strange that KK never showed the same level of support that Ray & Ian did. Has his reasons I suppose.
Sad to lose Ray, a true gent indeed.November 16, 2020 at 7:26 pm #197612Scunthorpe United sold him for £18000 which in todays money would be near £335,000. Liverpool sold him for £300K ( just over a million ) – wonder if there was a sell on clause ?
What would he have been worth in todays world.
November 16, 2020 at 8:18 pm #197616Took him about 3 years to take over from Fatty Lawrence as fist choice. That was usually the way with young players at top teams. Was surprised when Iron midfielder Keegan went straight into the Liverpool team as a striker.

Similar to when they signed Ron Yeats, Shanks handed his education to Dick White – Dick was a great teacher.

Injuries and a great pre season tour of Scandinavia opened the door for Keegan, he grabbed the opportunity with both hands and could not be dropped. I always knew that Clemence would make it, I was surprised at Keegan’s meteoric rise. He worked hard.
