People will take comfort in their tactics and the refs performance as the reason for our failure to win today, but the reality is we were nowhere near good enough and were lucky for a point.
They matched us man-man and won their individual battles, I find it confusing why they decided to go for a draw when the 3 points were on the table.
Even before kick off you knew we would find it difficult to score without Whitehall, it’s a tough call with young fish as he needs game time to develop but maybe in hindsight today wasn’t the one. Their number 6 had him worked out in the first ten minutes.
My biggest concern is centre midfield and has been for some time. Dixon for Warrington did a number on us and so did the Radcliffe players today. Clunan has absolute stinker and I just don’t see what he brings to the side- I know some rate him but especially against side coming to slow the game down he does us no favours and is not strong enough for that position.
Massively disappointing result today which could come back to haunt us later in the season

November 2, 2024 at 8:19 pm #292782Can’t say I’m too disappointed today. Just went to show once again how glaringly obvious how lightweight our midfield is. As CB stated and shown in the past a physical team will do a job on us.
I personally think we are far too predictable and was on show today that there management team had played their hand perfectly for a cracking point and nearly three.Countless time folk were begging for forward passage than sideways or even backwards. Think it was first half beestin if I remember rightly had a good run left centre for him instead of having a crack to go left for it to die out.

November 2, 2024 at 8:43 pm #292783Well done Radcliffe set up well all did their jobs we didn’t!
Had hoped Tuesday might have woken us up again.
Upside a point is a point.November 2, 2024 at 9:02 pm #292784Man of the match anyone other than Fitz?
November 3, 2024 at 12:00 am #292791Dismal result at home against a team sat in the relegation zone.
Even worse performance, arguably the worst so far this season (and that’s a tough gig!). Dreadful all over the pitch, sloppy in possession, offering nothing up front, hoofball resumed, baffling subs, much the same as majority of the season (barring the odd game here and there).
Maybe most worrying of all Butler’s post match bluster to Humberside. He’s ‘pleased’, thinks we’ve been ‘good away from home’ (3 losses and 2 draws in last 5 away) and the only excuse he can muster for our dreadful display is that ‘they are a good side’. Oh and not one to disappoint the crowd, he threw in a ‘we’re still top of the league’.
His interviews are becoming more than a tad embarrassing and tonight’s particularly mind-boggling spiel, has angered plenty of fans. Where is the incentive to turn up to the next match when the manager says on record that today’s performance was acceptable, sorry even more so ‘pleasing’? Crossing the line from ‘simple’ to ‘idiotic’ perhaps?
Top spot is Chorleys for the taking now. 2 games in hand and only 4 points needed from 6 to leap over us and on recent form it’s very possible (likely) we won’t see it again. Our inability to win a game on a Saturday, (i.e the only day our part-time counterparts haven’t put in a shift in their full time jobs pre-game) is inevitably going to cost us. As per Iron-stats :
The Iron’s form in games played on a Saturday:
DDDLLDDL
Their form in midweek games:
WWWWWWWWThe above was pre-Radcliffe so can another D to the Saturday form… mind blowing! Surely the only ‘edge’ to our game can’t just be that our opposition have done a hard days graft and our prima-Donna’s are well rested? If that’s all we’ve got in our toolbox we better hope for alot of frozen pitches and subsequently rearranged games over the winter months. We haven’t won a Saturday game since 17th August. We just can’t get promoted with form like that.
The only positive from today is that our very own forum Gestapo is a lot less chirpy this evening so there’s no handbags, fight picking and / or wielding of perceived ‘authority’ by threatening to delete posts and such like.
P.S. Lowest Saturday crowd so far this season, even after the emphatic win on Tuesday. The start of ‘The Butler effect’?

November 3, 2024 at 12:16 am #292794I think the posts deleted had less to do with ‘wrong opinions’ and more to do with perceived insulting posts with language seen as beyond the limit, even if some of it was because of innocent mishaps. For example, IFA used a word that is insulting, probably through predictive text since it was out of place, and it got deleted as a result.

In all seriousness, if you want him to fail that badly, where does this leave you?
November 3, 2024 at 2:16 am #292800‘P.S. Lowest Saturday crowd so far this season, even after the emphatic win on Tuesday. The start of ‘The Butler effect’?’
Only if you perceive it thus. You were silent after the emphatic midweek match. Why do you seemingly revel in our bad days at the office? Is being proven right more important than the cause?
November 3, 2024 at 3:15 am #292801Clunan is good when we’re on top and keeps the ball well, but as mentioned above when we’re being pressed and it’s a straight battle he get’s out muscled. I’d personally go Beestin and Brogan and see how that pans out. Brogan’s a lot more direct and is a lot more robust then Clunan.
Crying out for width again. Only problem is the whole squad has been put together to play this 5 at the back formation. Only two wide players we have are Roberts and Law. Law is always out injured. I thought we may have turned a corner after Tuesday, but doesn’t look like it, if anything we got worse.
Worst performance of the season and that’s saying something. Apart from 2 performances which can be classed as full 90 minute performances we’ve been absolutely awful to watch.
If Butler is still in a job post January, I’ll be surprised.

November 3, 2024 at 9:38 am #292813The club has stated that there are funds available for loans.
We have seen a shedload of points cast away recently – certainly enough to have cost us promotion already.
We have needed a ‘presence’ in CM all season – just winning a few headers alone in the centre would make a huge positive change to performances.
The forward line relies so very heavily on Whitehall.
Clearly, we are currently a leader short and Carlton is nowhere close to full match fitness.
Yes, Fishburn is progressing nicely but he cannot carry the whole world on his shoulders. We are asking too much of the lad.
The time to act – isn’t now – it was six weeks ago.3 users thanked author for this post.
November 3, 2024 at 9:39 am #292814I don’t think people want Butler to fail, if he fails Scunthorpe fail. People are frustrated that problems are manifest within the squad and formation and we need to do something about it.
I still back him to get us out of this league but you can see he needs to strengthen and he needs to be less wedded to something when it’s clearly not working. If he can’t see those then we may have a problem.5 users thanked author for this post.

Interesting the pressures facing a number of managers not a million miles from the AA.November 3, 2024 at 10:02 am #292816I don’t think people want Butler to fail, if he fails Scunthorpe fail.
I don’t think DeereyMe was levelling that accusation against others.
November 3, 2024 at 10:13 am #292818Given the optimism from Tuesday and Radcliffe’s results i was surprised when the result came in. You can make all the noise you want but this isn’t an “easy” league.
If you get organised and grind out the results you’ll go somewhere. look at Tamworth on Friday Night.
In an attempt to have a dig a sub 4k crowd is mentioned. must be me that only remembers the 2.5k crowds as a league club.

November 3, 2024 at 11:03 am #292825Should be an easy league for us if we turn up for every game.
November 3, 2024 at 11:50 am #292831I’m not saying some supporters want us to fail, but some may take some consolation in saying ‘I told you so’ if we do. Put the blame at Butler’s door all you like (some are doing), he can’t stop players sideways passing and doing u turns on the half way line and the like. Radcliffe’s game plan worked, ours didn’t. Improvements needed. The time for a new Midfielder and Forward is pressing.

Sub 1,200 at one point

If we’d turned those five draws into wins we’d be ten points clear by now.
IF!
Absolutely no consistency as the last three games have shown.

Quote of the week IMO
November 3, 2024 at 12:40 pm #292840There are some glib dismissals of other teams because their players are often plumbers, plasterers, builders and mechanics, as if this means games should be a stroll every time. We should be performing better, and figuring out teams who come to be solid and get in our face as Radcliffe did, but it will sometimes be a tough slog. It was for every other team who came down with pedigree (York, Stockport etc).
November 3, 2024 at 1:01 pm #292845‘plumbers, plasterers, builders and mechanics’
Often used as a stick to beat the team with after a bad performance. It’s a bit cheap IMO
November 3, 2024 at 1:07 pm #292848Don’t want to besmirch those trades/professions most jobs are stressful and tiring enough on their own. Some of these part time players show more desire, boys and skill than those who should have time to rest, recover, analyse, strategise. If a player is not carrying out Butler’s wishes then he needs to be dropped – it must now be surely time add to the squad

November 3, 2024 at 1:35 pm #292850That was our worst home performance of the season by 100 miles, apart from a couple of good saves and a melee in their six yard box how they somehow kept us out we were pathetic, even Callum was out of touch today, then play the latter stages without a striker says it all, be fair to Radcliffe they didn’t look like a team at the bottom end, and the only plus was Fitzsimmons penalty save
Up there with one of the worst of the season but “fair to Radcliffe they didn’t look like a team at the bottom end” They really did, every opportunity they just hit it 50ft in the air and the passing was shaky.
November 3, 2024 at 1:37 pm #292851Clunan getting majority of the stick? Very harsh!
The rest of his teammates were shocking.
