In regards to conceding that stupid goal 13 secs into the second half, Jimmy was asked “what did the players say about about it ?. It looked like they were stood there watching it happen”
His reply was “they didn’t respond to me”, he was asked “they didn’t say anything ?”…..Jimmy responded “no they didn’t say anything”.
Jimmy was then asked “did you ask them?”, he then said “I wouldn’t say I asked but told them it was unacceptable”.He was then asked if the players had said anything about tonight’s performance in which Jimmy replied “no”
I suspect he fears the boot because he sounded more than a bit under pressure.
Going by the interview I think it’s fair to say the players have stopped listening to him and that for a manager equals gardening leave.

February 21, 2024 at 6:35 am #281459I feel for the guy.
Was he WHAM’s patsy, earmarked to be SUFC’s last manager?
WHAM was possibly looking at taking the club in to bankruptcy and so wasn’t overly fussed about whom he brought in.
The lads obviously trying and is affected by the performances and results.
Perhaps the ‘ex-league’ players think they know better, think his sessions are poor / too easy / not intense, high tempo enough. We don’t know as we aren’t pitch side at training to observe.
Hopefully he’ll find another club at ‘his level’ and he’ll enjoy the game again.
At the moment, he looks like a tortured man.
Good luck and best wishes to him at his next club.8 users thanked author for this post.
February 21, 2024 at 9:25 am #281482Very nervy interview after the game, he was in super scratch mode which tells me he’s starting to feel the pressure now. Desperately sorry for the guy because his heart and intentions are brilliant but there is something missing with this squad of players and he’s struggling to work out what it is, Saturday could be pivotal.

February 21, 2024 at 12:20 pm #281517It’s what happens when you put pub league people in charge of a former EFL club.
As far as the football is concerned we are distinctly amateur. We’re playing at the Jimmy Dean level. We have been for a year now so it’s going to take some doing to get the professionalism back.

February 21, 2024 at 1:20 pm #281524Felt sorry for him. He looked lost last night. Hilton sent him up for sure.

February 21, 2024 at 1:52 pm #281528Agree Rene, wasn’t long ago he was owed thousands in wages and expenses. It would appear he’s struggling and possibly well out of his depth, but I for one won’t be sticking the boot in whilst he’s down.
It’s an unfortunate situation where the club can’t really act unless their hand is forced.

February 21, 2024 at 2:28 pm #281529As I’ve said before, he’s a nice fella but unfortunately for all involved, was appointed into a role that exceeds his ability. He was never going to be the answer for us and I often wonder why Hilton appointed him just as Nelson was getting a tune out of the squad last season.
It is clear to all that he needs to go however, as many others have stated, finances may dictate the outcome of that. The club found itself in a very precarious position earlier this season, and it looked to all that the club was days, if not hours, from oblivion. Luckily the club was saved from the very brink of extinction. The board have worked tirelessly to get the club back on a stable financial footing however, there may not be enough coffers in the bank to support paying up Dean’s contract early.

Dean has 3 or 4 months left on his contract so I can’t envisage costing a great deal to pay him up. I suspect sending Beestin and say Barrows out on loan will pay for it.
Cliff, I’m not sticking the boot into Jimmy as I’ve said before I like him as a person, but you can’t escape the fact this job is too big for him.

February 21, 2024 at 4:56 pm #281535It would likely cost nothing extra to sack Jimmy and his assistant.
The potential additional expenditure is what you have to pay replacements if they are not already on the payroll. Unless of course you feel the need to give short term internal appointments a pay increase for dealing with the additional responsibilities.

There’s still a cost though, along with Plummer and potentially bringing a replacement in. People mention Butler but he’s part of the coaching team that is failing to get a tune out of the players and has no experience.
You was also desperate for new players to come in when it could be argued they weren’t needed- another significant cost for us.
All I advise is people take a step back and try to look at the broader picture, if Dean loses the next 2/3 of games it will be clear that the position is completely untenable and he has to be paid off, however in our current financial state i’d prefer that to be the absolute last option.
In an ideal world we could limp through to summer and regroup, whether that comes to fruition is anyone’s guess.

February 21, 2024 at 6:16 pm #281542Having a CEO in our ‘glory days’ on £5k a week was an absolute joke!
February 21, 2024 at 6:44 pm #281544Could the board look at how the management is set up? Would Dean, if offered, look at a different role in the club (I don’t know his strengths but must have some). Why not persuade Laws to manage for the last 10 games, he still lives local and has links to the club. Maybe he’s been out the game too long and doesn’t want the hassle – the board must be considering its options. I do agree that we won’t be bringing anybody in on a wage whilst JD is still here/under contract but the simple thing is we won’t be going up with him in charge – so it’s over to the board what they want to do.
February 21, 2024 at 7:45 pm #281549Not sure big hair would be up for a charity gig.
Rather stick with Jimmy than have Laws back even if it was for free.

I beg to differ, it’s the quality of who’s come in which is questionable.
Did we need another striker ?. No doubt we needed one, but not one which comes on from the bench to then not be deemed good enough to even make the bench the next game. We needed a striker to make a difference, not a striker who hasn’t netted in 14 games for Farsley Celtic.
Crystal clear we needed another CM as Beestin isn’t match fit and Butterfield and Scales are struggling. Clarke did come here with the caveat of not being match fit, but from what I’ve read he does come with a certain degree of talent and pedigree.
Mcalinden looks a good player.
The young striker I don’t really get as we have Poulter, but going by what Dean said we got him for next to nothing. Still really short up top for me. Mcalinden could play up front, but then who’s going to play on the left ?. Wilson’s a bit hit and miss, Elliot isn’t a winger and Law is forever injured.
