To gain a realistic feeling of where the fans thoughts are on the Swann family as owners!
Peter… stupidly (IMO), thinks the majority of fans support him but I can’t help but feel even the people who wanted to believe in him are now very very worried by his actions and no longer want him in charge of this incredible club!
I for one wish the day he took ownership had never happened!!
And I feel strongly that thousands of real Scunthorpe fans feel the same! This man needs to understand that a football club survives on a fan base and IMO he has absolutely dismantled the connection that existed between the fans and the club!
I personally feel unsettled and uneasy for our future, I have no trust left in PS as an owner!!
He gives Lots of interviews and says the right things but I am now a firm believer that we have ownership who can not deliver the best for the club… simply my opinion!!
Maybe I’m wrong but I’ve lost all hope!!
I honestly dread to think where SUFC is heading

April 25, 2021 at 12:06 am #205412You’re absolutely right Sharp Shooter, in my opinion Swann cannot be trusted, as I am sure most of our fans think the same. I have been of this opinion since he first took over our Club, the worst thing that could have happened to our beloved Scunthorpe United. The man has no interest whatsoever in the football and he as much has said this on the radio by stating he is now concentrating on his flats and buildings. Worst of all he has stripped our Club of all its assets, now owns the land and stadium, which I believe must be worth much, much more than what his company has acquired it for. In my opinion he has wrecked our club and what has he left us with? No assets, we dont even own our own land and stadium, a football team which would at present struggle to hold it’s own in non-league football, and shows a total disregard for all supporters. He has even abolished our matchday programme, which to some may seem trivial, but it isn’t, this is part of our clubs tradition and history, as was the ground and stadium. We have become an embarrassment under Swann and are now having to rely on Grimsby going out of the league to enable us to stay in if we dont gain any more points. After watching today’s match v Walsall I am even sure now that Cox is not the man for the manager’s job. His tactics and substitutions are dire. Like the previous comments I agree that leaving our second best player on the bench and then substituting Gillead just proves he is the worst manager Swann has employed. The only reason he is still here I believe is because he will never ever be critical of Swanns decisions and he is not his own man, he is a yes man. He never takes any of the blame himself and blames everything on the players, most of whom are youngsters who are learning. Cox and Lillis coach the players all week but they are certainly not learning or improving under the. After being a supporter for the last sixty or so years I have to say our Club is in the worst situation ever in my opinion in all that time and am very, very concerned in the direction which Swann is taking Scunthorpe United.
I feel we, as supporters, should be making our voices heard and demanding more answers to out present situation.6 users thanked author for this post.
April 25, 2021 at 12:07 am #205413Can’t disagree, but what good would a poll do?
Swann says every time that he’s “tough enough to take it” and he’s as unhappy about the results as any other fan. Fine rhetoric of course but nothing seems to get any better.
A few thousand fans baying for blood may cause him to think again but, he’s got away with that for over a year now.
The stark reality is that the team is toothless and spineless and the fans voiceless.

Just two points about that NI. One, it won’t happen, two, it won’t happen.

April 25, 2021 at 2:28 am #205418Well Sharpy I think we are having a poll!
I once attended one of Ernest Pawns ‘stand up shows’ where he was telling a joke about a new ground and that he had purchased the land for £1, an heckler asked if that was all signed and sealed. Pawn said “thats nothing to do with you, you don’t need to know about that”.
Pawn’s latest dismissive on taking the ground ‘Thats all it is really, its nothing else, it doesn’t matter’.
Well actually it does and the club debts were racked up by said person on compensation for numerous managerial teams and very poor signings.
If it doesn’t matter Ernest give it back! The £11 million debts were run up by you and you alone.

April 25, 2021 at 3:00 am #205420The chairman talks a lot and makes lots of empty promises.
We were a top league 1 side pushing towards the championship, now we are a poor league 2 side pushing hard for the National League.
From new ground to no ground.

April 25, 2021 at 4:19 am #205421The problem here is that many are arguing two opposites: resentment of the £11 million debt yet forgetting that they were the very ones calling for more money to be spent to prove the club’s ‘ambition.’
I never really grasped what the expression ‘you can’t have your cake and eat it’ really meant. I think I do now.1 user thanked author for this post.
April 25, 2021 at 10:11 am #205424Good points raised all round however I would say to les that yes, while fans were calling for money to be spent to help achieve success, they were not not calling for the business to be mismanaged in the process to rack up such massive losses. The facts are that whatever fans called for ( and plenty of fans say Swann doesn’t listen to them anyway ) Swann and his business model has put the club in this current position. As I said in earlier posts I don’t see the transfer of debt to Coolsilk is such a massive change from him being able to sell of the ground and land to clear HIS self inflicted debts surrounding the club before he did transfer the debt. He has been the owner lock stock and barrel since he arrived, what bothers me is the position he has put us in. Some businessman eh!!!

April 25, 2021 at 10:21 am #205426it’s not what money has been spent, it’s how it has been spent, look at Accrington how they have built a team with little income, and even in this division the number of teams that have decent teams who don’t have nowhere the budget that we have had, we have too big a squad with most not league standard, we have a u23 squad with a manager and possible too many coaches if you include the youth team when they could possibly merge together.

April 25, 2021 at 10:34 am #205430And meanwhile the stadium’s been left to rot.

April 25, 2021 at 10:50 am #205432I think it’s a good point to note that a majority of the £11,000,000 debt has been racked up under Swann’s tenure. Basically HE gambled hugely, HE lost the gamble, and now the club has been forced to sell it’s assets to HIS other company in order to pay-off HIS failed gambling debt.
The only winner in all of this is Swann. He has in effect, been gifted the ground and associated land for next to nothing, and the club are left floundering at the foot of League Two.
The more I think about Swann’s tenure, the more I realise he was nothing but a false prophet. He came in some grand ideas, talking about a new ground, entertaining football, and all played in the Championship. What do we have today? A rented ground, supporters treated with contempt, dire football, and all played at the foot of League Two. That is the complete opposite of what he promised when he arrived!!!
I am expecting him to put the club up for sale within the next 18 months. His other company (Coolsilk) will be happily making a tidy profit on the land and subsequent developments, whilst Scunthorpe United will become the next York City!

April 25, 2021 at 11:07 am #205439Just two points about that NI. One, it won’t happen, two, it won’t happen.
Whilst fans aren’t allowed in the stadium it won’t.
How about a dozen of you local lads getting down to the training ground tomorrow, Man Utd style?
Suggestion for a banner – “Scunthorpe United’s Swann Song” and the inevitable “Cox Out”!
April 25, 2021 at 11:14 am #205441Man it’d fans have had some effect, the Glaziers have said any interested party’s need to come up with 4 billion, maybe swanny will jump ship again.
April 25, 2021 at 11:17 am #205443I never believed Swann from the moment he took over our Club. He came in with his grand ideas, non of which have come to fruition. He racked up the huge debt by mismanagement and has manipulated the situation so that his company own our stadium and land because of this. He hired and fired managers, all of which were better than our current manager. He told fans we couldnt take food and drink into the stadium. He has cancelled the matchday programme. We know do not have any assets. Now he says he is concentrating on his flats and buildings. IN MY OPINION THIS HAS BEEN HIS INTENTION FROM DAY 1. PLEASE WILL SOMEONE START A POLL AND WE SUPPORTERS SHOULD BE DOING MORE.

April 25, 2021 at 11:38 am #205448Yep that’s why people take over football clubs so they can concentrate on their flats and buildings, or then again why not just concentrate on your flats an buildings and not bother with a football club, puzzles me.

That seems to be what’s happened since the failed promotion gamble to the Championship.

Many did but some of us were very uncomfortable about it at the time, wondering where it would all lead to and suffering the consequences of asking those questions.
The sums being spent on wages around 2016-2018 were extraordinary and even if we had got promoted to the Championship, I’m not sure what the plan would have been. Spend even more? Maybe we should be glad Millwall & Rotherham beat us.
Someone mentioned on a thread that we now have bigger problems than running out of pies at half-time, and that poster is right, but I still think those sorts of minor issues are a symptom of bigger problems. After all, since 2013, what has actually improved at Glanford Park?

Possibly the easiest question ever posed on Bru?

April 26, 2021 at 10:30 am #205490Same question I asked repeatedly…and got shouted down, or told that “match day experience” doesn’t exist or doesn’t matter.
Altogether now guys and gals: Alcazar was right.
No wonder I got up Swanns nose, I saw through him very early.3 users thanked author for this post.
April 26, 2021 at 11:55 am #205494Well, I must admit that for the first five years since Mr Swann took over the Chairmans job, I backed him 100%, like most others I had no reason to have any doubt of his stated aims.
But I now feel that the way that he has replaced Board Members with his family, and giving him full control of the club, this in my opinion has not turned out at all good. This latest announcement from him when informing supporters that his company now ownes the ground, all car park and training ground land, without giving fans of many years supporting the team and club any say of opinions stinks, there has been no word of the present team that we now have and why it has been allowed to be on freefall for the past three years, just that he informs us that he now ownes everything at GP.
My opinion on him is now a lot different to before, and I cannot see things ever getting any better in the future, just a thought, “were are the club going to get any future money from to stop this decline in the club, we now have no assets, only a squad that 90% of the players are not and never will be league standard, although we now have Swanns son in charge of recruitment, none of the family are football people, and they are responsible surely more a lot of the £12 million debt that the club has run up over the past seven years, and we are now asked to beleive that we should be thankful, and he is saving our once proud little club.
YES PLEASE TAKE A VOTE ON SUPPORTERS VIEWS!!!!!

April 26, 2021 at 12:43 pm #205496Is anyone actually interested anymore after this last year of changed lives/styles.
We’ve been served up crap for years I can’t remember last game I enjoyed it seems light years ago.
We been told of all the exciting projects etc but nothing.I’m totally bored of it all. Who’s actually going to bother rocking up when we are allowed. Too many will of found new hobbies and are equally fed up of everything SUFC.
It’s boring, stale nobody interested in making a game of it on the field and off it.
The game against Walsall just summed it up, I was ready to turn off after 22mins. Kept watching thinking we’d come out with some fire in there bellies.
Not a chance. Bunch of disinterested players. But it’s bred throughoutApathy throughout including me.
Wake me up when we are getting promoted to Div 1 please.
April 26, 2021 at 4:13 pm #205511I think Swann junior has a lot of new signings lined up for us. Debenhams, Billy (taco) bells, Marks & spencer’s (twins both wingers) McDonald, to name a few with more to sign later in the year. Things will be looking up.
April 26, 2021 at 5:30 pm #205515Unfortunately it does seem that the football club is bottom of Swann’s priority list. Now that key assets are secured I suspect it may become even less important.
I’d like nothing more for Swann to prove me wrong but I suspect this situation will play out how many seem to be predicting on here.

April 26, 2021 at 10:33 pm #205530Please can we start a poll now on irn bru. Any other club I’m sure the fans would be absolutely devastated, seething and wanting lots more answers. How can it be legal to take a club’s assets for much less than they are worth? Obviously whoever does this has no morals whatsoever, just pure greed.

April 27, 2021 at 4:05 am #205533Start a poll with a handful of folk that are left that are interested.
What good is a poll going to be bar from pointing out the blatant obvious within the whole club.
It’s Rotten and nobody is interested from the terraces to the pitch.Poll should be how many are really missing football and are who are excited to go back to GP.
How many folks outlooks have changed over this last year with what’s happened. I for one aren’t wasting my money on an afternoon to watch sub standard entertainment.
Money can’t buy time.

April 27, 2021 at 11:27 am #205542We have had several polls on union bru over the years and I like many fans have willingly voted. So now I am asking the people who run irn bru please will you start a poll as to the fans views of the swanns transferring the assets of our Club to their own company. If you aren’t willing to organise a poll I ask why not?
April 27, 2021 at 11:44 am #205543My biggest single gripe is that throughout most of this last six years we’ve been witness to the most tedious football in the club’s entire history.
Okay – there were a few little periods of entertainment but let’s be honest – they didn’t last long! When the ground is fully open next season – I am expecting to see gates regularly way below 2,000 – even if we are in the top half. (My little joke!)
My best four footballing friends have all decided to stop going; their kids – brought up Iron – have already stopped; Mrs LesGeo has stopped wanting to buy a season ticket ever again; I care less about outcomes than any time since pre-1966 before I had even discovered the delights of pride in The Mighty Iron.
Well. That pride and me are no longer good cousins. I maintain a connection – more out of habit than anything else.I will become a rare visitor – except on exceptional occasions, perhaps.
I do still hope to watch from from afar in sunnier climes without all the bovver of driving over from Sheffield when I am resident in the UK.April 27, 2021 at 12:32 pm #205549Were you asleep for the 2015/16 2016/17 2017/18 season lesgeo, by to take some pleasing.
