Well thats the first game out of the way, and I am just hoping that it is too early to judge what the season is going to be like!!.
WATSON–5–No control of his goal area, Newports 9 corners all aimed into the goal area, keeper came for none of them.
HORNSHAW–5–Was a bit open first half, got better second half, but not great.
McGAHEY–6–Had two or three poor passes, but is clearly not 100% fit.
CORDNER–7–I thought he had a good game in a poor defence.
BEDEAU–5–Too many poor passws and caught out too often.
GILLIEAD–6–Played out of position, not involved in any of his normal runs.
VINCENT–5–Was not very effective today, subbedbecause of his contribution.
SPENCE–5–Hoping he can play better than this.
HIPPOLYTE–7–Had a few nice runs, but hung on to the ball too long.
EISA–4—Never was involved in anything, normally a good playrt, but not today.
LOFT–7–Brilliant goal, but was feeding off chaff, needed a pae-rtner up front.SUBS
GREEN—4—Did absolutely nothing in his 20 minutes.
JARVICE–NA–Brought o in the 85th minute,REF—9—Had a really good game, did everthing right
MANAGER—6—I still waiting to see the attecking play that he keeps drumming into us, and secondly he selected players out of position, Scunny managers always elect these two options !, and why was Coulclough brought on for the last 30 mins at least????!
Cetainly not a classic, and probably it was a good thing for us fans in watching it on computer rather than the Cluggy Stand, I feel for sure that if I had been at the match, it would have been a walk to the car park after 80 minutes.
Lets just hope things get better and that KVV and McAtee are soo back playing.
September 12, 2020 at 6:21 pm #194611A bit harsh – Green apart, I couldn’t go below 6.
Mind you, there were not too many above 6.September 12, 2020 at 7:37 pm #194620Bloody hell fours and fives, worst than last year then, were we sitting back after 80 mins,is that why you would have left? BS.
September 12, 2020 at 8:35 pm #194624They beat us twice last year – it’s an improvement.
September 12, 2020 at 8:42 pm #194625It was a boring game that neither team really deserved to win.
I don’t like the formation and Cox will loose people’s faith quickly if he won’t stop playing players out of position were they are clearly ineffective.
Eisa and Gillead both being absolutely wasted through the centre.
Hippolyte and Hornshaw are not wingbacks although Hippolyte did defend well today.
3 CB’s is shit.
Get Loft a proper partner we had 3 strikers on the bench.
What I’ve seen of the signings we could have the basis of a really promising team if they are used properly.
September 12, 2020 at 11:18 pm #194631Can we havw some player rating mars guys, thats why I started this second thread, because the other one had no ratings after 11 entries. We did not lose same as Cass states, but if we are truthful, we were the second bes team on the pitch, we offered nothing up front for a team playing at home, this is a continuation of the two previouse seasons, please give your views lads.
September 12, 2020 at 11:53 pm #194633Watson – 5 – no command of area, heart in mouth every time a cross comes into the box! Kicking poor.
McGahey – 6 – solid enough.
Cordner – 6 – as above.
Bedeau – 5 – think he could have done better with the goal. Passing poor.
Hornshaw – 5 – didn’t really do anything. Probably should have scored.
Hippolyte – 7 – looks promising and was our best defender at times. His hard work led to the goal.
Spencer – 6 – broke up play well but gave the ball away just as many times.
Vincent – 6 – tidy but no cutting edge.
Gilliead – 6 – completely wasted in the centre, get him back on the wing.
Eisa – 5 – as above, not a striker!
Loft – 7 – MOM. Did well holding up the ball and goal of the season already…needs a proper partner!Green – 5 – didn’t do anything apart from waste the ball in promising positions.
Jarvis – N/ARef – 9 – hardly noticed him which is always a good sign!
Manager – 5 – came in professing to play attacking football and was a 4-4-2 guy…so far I’ve seen neither!
September 13, 2020 at 12:08 am #194635Not sure how you can give accurate player ratings based upon a very basic video stream.
September 13, 2020 at 12:30 pm #194646Watson 6 – I think he would have saved the goal if our player hadn’t deflected it, put us under pressure for not coming out at corners.
Hornshaw 6 – steady but nothing special
McGahey 7 – got 90 minutes in and played OK
Cordner 7 – good game
Bedeau 6 – not his best game
Hippolyte 7 – decent debut, will get better
Spence 6 – OK but not outstanding
Vincent 6 – looked better last week
Gillihead 6 – is better on the wing
Eisa 6 – tried hard but better on the wing
Loft 8 – isolated but scored a great goal and I am waiting to see him with Turan or KVV as a front pairreferee 9 – was very good for both teams and didn’t want to be the centre of attention
Cox 5 – too much Wilcox style influence at the moment with style of play, probably do to injuries and Turan only just getting his Permit, Neil said he wants him and Loft upfront together, a bit surprised Colclough not being brought on for his experience late on seeing he started against Vale and to me wasn’t that bad and made the goal, but these young players will get better.
September 13, 2020 at 12:33 pm #194647Actually Northumbiron, it was nice to watch the game without having to look round the Cluggy stand stanchions, and I thought the coverage was not too bad, and probably saw more of the game than being present, and certainly less of my time wasted by just watchig from 15-00 hrs till 16-50 hrs instead of 13-00 hrs till getting home at 17-15 hrs. When you say it is not easy to give rating marks, well that also applies if youare present at the game, that’s why everyone gives diffent views of what they saw, but it’s only an assessement after all.
Spot on with your comments Big Left Toe, exactly how I saw thungs mate, but it was a poor game and made me happy to have not been present at GP.
September 13, 2020 at 12:51 pm #194649Next week we have: a match fit Hippolyte and a match fit McGahey; a fit but not match fit Turan; probably Clarke on the bench and McAtee back.
Immediate prospects for team strengthening.
With McAtee -starting, it should be 4 – 4- 2.September 13, 2020 at 1:07 pm #194650Not sure about Hornshaw for next week, last minute he looked like his calf or hamstring went and as soon as full time whistle went he sat down and was shaking his head. Hopefully Rowe will be fit.
September 13, 2020 at 1:29 pm #194651BS when you’re at the game you can track a particular player and watch what he does when he doesn’t have the ball, how he reads the game, how vocal he is and so on.
Eg. MM rated Hornshaw as “nothing special”. If we are expecting a twenty year-old playing out of position to be special then we should be watching Liverpool or City, not Scunny!
Also I find it difficult to work out who is who from the long camera angles. With so many new faces, names and numbers I can’t tell my Vincent from my Spence as yet.
But as you say, just an opinion. Seeing our eleven best players in their correct position in a 4-4-2 lineup would make it easier, although I fear that is still a long way off!
September 13, 2020 at 2:04 pm #194652I said steady, but nothing special,( his performance yesterday ), in other words I didn’t say he was rubbish but not outstanding either not a useless footballer, I haven’t seen enough of him to form that opinion but I don’t think he is a regular full back and was only referring to yesterday’s game.
September 13, 2020 at 2:08 pm #194653I fully adree with your last statement paL
I also wish that we had an experienced goalkeeper, fans should not be asking if Watson is good enough after thr number of games he has now played, he makes me annoyed when a cross or corner comes in which is well inside his goal area, and he never comes out to catch or punch the ball, and he and the Scunny defender should have done better with Saturdays goal, he makes far too many errors for me.
September 13, 2020 at 2:30 pm #194654Funny that Northumbrian, I’d say the opposite and see the game better on TV…especially if comparing against being stood in the Cluggy trying to make out what’s happening at the other end of the pitch!
September 13, 2020 at 2:48 pm #194655To me sitting close to the gantry it was a fairly normal view.
Anyway Bartonscorpian what was it like not having to leave before the end to get out of the Car Park.
September 13, 2020 at 3:00 pm #194656I’m generally watching the ball anyway when I’m at the game like the camera does I don’t spend a lot of time watching players off the ball I don’t think?
September 13, 2020 at 5:10 pm #194657Going to agree with Mistertonmicks scoring.
September 13, 2020 at 7:00 pm #194659Different personel same old rubbish in my opinion.
September 13, 2020 at 11:07 pm #194661Mick, It would have been better being at GP, at least I would not had to witness our team playing with eleven men in their own penalty area during those last 15 minutes, I would have been at the Barnetby roundabout when the final wistle went ha ha!, but with it being in front of me, I had to watch the computer, but is to be hoped that things get better than Saturdays match, even though Newport had lost their last six away games, Actually I feel that we had a bit of luck getting the one point.
September 14, 2020 at 6:17 pm #1946751 game ! Hasn’t taken long has it.
September 15, 2020 at 12:46 am #194697As Mick stated, Cox said he wants Turan and Loft upfront so we may get 4/4/2 next week.
I can kind of understand C
September 15, 2020 at 1:07 am #194698I don’t know what went off there. Anyway, in regards to this dodgy formation Cox is playing….why didn’t he just go 4/4/2 and give Mooney a go up there ?
As Mick stated, it was very interesting that Cox mentioned that he wants Turan and Loft up front and McAtee didn’t get a mention. Cox also when asked about McAttee a while ago in regards to attacking options he said that he CAN player there, meaning that he’s better elsewhere but can do a job there.
What I’m dreading is, is that Cox may opt for a 4/3/1/2 or a 4/1/2/1/2 to accommodate McAtee as an attacking midfielder.
Cox only said he wanted Turan and loft upfront and to play attacking football, he never mentioned 4/4/2 specifically.
I hope he doesn’t go down that route and sticks to his word because if he doesn’t my heart will sink. I can’t cope with another manager putting us trough that shite again.
We’ve seen it already, as soon as you go down that route you may as well kiss goodbye to your wingers and width,…it throws everything off kilter.
Anybody know how Jai Rowe is doing ?.
Hornshaw is trying his best but he’s no RB and never will be. I know Clarke is back in training but you can’t rely on him getting back and lasting the season.
September 15, 2020 at 9:25 am #194705Don’t forget he’s got to accomodate 4 CBs when Onariase is fit. We’re not overly strong in CM or at FB so it could be a 4-0-6 formation.
McGahey Cordner Onariase Bedeau
Gillead McAtee Kvv Loft Turan Eisa
Might work? Could be a few 5-5 draws and the odd 6-4 (not 4-6 I hope) and if we score 5 or 6 we wouldn’t need to worry too much about Watson.September 15, 2020 at 7:45 pm #194727Ha !. Seriously though, Cox will surely have to play McAtee…only problem is if he doesn’t choose to play him upfront, which doesn’t appear to be the case, he’ll have to play that daft diamond formation to accommodate him.
Going by what Cox has said, he really rates Turan from what he’s seen in training…if he fancies him upfront instead of McAtee he must have shown him something.
Only other option would be to play him alongside Spence in CM and see how he get’s on. I can’t for the life of me see it working though.
Is McAtee too good to bench warm at this level ?
Again, do any of you know how Jai Rowe is doing with the injury he picked up ?
September 15, 2020 at 8:03 pm #194732If Beestin ( if it was him ) and McAtee have been in quarantine for two weeks it depends when they are allowed back to training and fit to start so may be on the bench.
September 15, 2020 at 8:14 pm #194734Hornshaw is trying his best but he’s no RB and never will be.
Rewind a couple of seasons and this is what was being said about Levi Sutton.
He returned to midfield, didn’t perform that well and got released.
This whole square pegs in round holes thing is starting to piss me off.
And it’s not just down to unfortunate injuries, it’s about squad balance. Four recognised CBS but only two recognised FBs, one of whom is always injured. Seven forwards but no midfield general. I know players should be adaptable but this is League 2 FFS!
Players in their correct position in a formation they understand please.
September 15, 2020 at 8:15 pm #194736It is three games Sanfran, already out of the League Cup first round again, and not won any of the other two matches, same old, same old, we have seen it so many times, defensive last 20 mins, even when playing at home, so why does Cox tell us that we are going to play attacking football, when all we get is this stuff, no Scunny manager ever plays two up front, even at GP.
yOU CANNOT MAKE IT SOUND ANY DIFFERENT sANFRAN, IT IS SIMPLY THE SAME OLD DEFENSIVE RUBBISH.
September 15, 2020 at 8:43 pm #194743It’s good seeing pictures of Jordan Clarke getting stuck in today in training.
