Well guys thats another game passed us by, and although we have big problems off the field, we are getting more and more into a very bad league position, and although the lads tried and played their best, it is looking more and more like this could be a relegation battle for us. It has to be noted that the Exerter manage made seven changes for todays match, obviously resting players for nex Tuesday, and with pir very much weakened team.
HOWARD–5—A howler gifting them their second goal spoiped things.
ONARIASE–9–again MOM, his defending kept the score down, easily our best player.
GREEN–8–He playe very well and could be a regular team member after this.
HIPPOLYTE–5–One or twe moves, but faded badly and still passws into players.
O’MALLEY–5–Did his job, without being outstanding.
JARVIS–5–Did not do a lot, and must get more involved.
BEESTIN—7–I thought he had a good game after not having much match time.
ROWE–4–Did not really notice him playing, just went missing throughout.
HORNSHAW–5–Did ok and his best game for me.
TAYLOR–4–Does not give suggestion that he is going to make the grade.
McATEE–5–Needs match practice, started well but faged later in the match.SUBS–4–Both made no difference to the team, neither are good enough.
REF–1–Best ref seen for years, got everything right.
SUMMARY—–I don’y know where we go from here, we have a very big squad, but whoever we put out don’t appear to be good enough, we have shed too many good players over the past three seasons, and signed replacements that are not good enough.
October 24, 2020 at 3:57 pm #196523ROWE–4–Did not really notice him playing, just went missing throughout.
Missed the goal then?
REF–1–Best ref seen for years, got everything right.
Is this your attempt at sarcasm BS?
October 24, 2020 at 4:12 pm #196526Rowe and Taylor both 4 ?. Beestin I would have given a 9 alongside Onariase.
If you’re not on a wind up mission, you need urgent medical attention.
That’s ludicrous.
October 24, 2020 at 5:04 pm #196530Barton you’re a hard man to please. A player scores the goal that gives you 5 extra points in the PL and all you can say about him is:-
“ROWE–4–Did not really notice him playing, just went missing throughout.”
Yellow card for you!!October 24, 2020 at 5:07 pm #196532Extremely harsh, BS.
October 24, 2020 at 5:24 pm #196533everyone for me gets a 7 today apart from Manny and Beestin both 9
October 24, 2020 at 6:37 pm #196542Just opinions guys, I have stated this many times, if you do not agree, there is no problem, just put your own rating marks on here, then we will know your own opinions, but we will never all assess players the same. At the end of the day the club is in big problems, many on here said after a couple of games, “give it ten games£, well the ten games are now reached and we have just the one luckey win, what do those supporters say now ????”lets give it another ten” ????
October 24, 2020 at 7:17 pm #196544Howard 6 some good saves and promising debut marks off for the howler
O Malley 6 steady got an assist for the goal
Onoraise 8 good display and will only get better, first name on team sheet now
Rowe 7 great debut, fantastic aerial ability and got the goal. should be pleased with that debut and should be starting again
Hornshaw 5 steady but still not up to league standard
Taylor 6 linked a bit better with Beestin in the centre
Beestin 7 solid game in the centre needs to start alongside Taylor
Hippolyte 5 really hasn’t got much pace or ability to beat his man
McAtee 6.5 much better performance and probably needs a run of games. Didn’t like it when got subbed and ignored the guy coming on
Jarvis Too isolated and needs to do better when chances come his way (I fear I will copy and paste this for every match)
Green 7 played well and used his pace well again would benefit from a run of games
Ref was fair and let the game flow
Didn’t deserve a 3-1 defeat but such is our predicament
October 24, 2020 at 7:57 pm #196548“many on here said after a couple of games, “give it ten games£, well the ten games are now reached and we have just the one luckey win, what do those supporters say now ????”lets give it another ten” ????”
No, let’s give it another 36!! Do you expect a medal for stating the bleeding obvious?
Of course things are bad, Cox is a new manager and was given a choice from 30 mostly unproven players combined with the remnants of a team that finished near the bottom last year.
Hardly surprising we’ve been crap is it, but signs today that some progress is being made. Of course Cox wasn’t there and we all know that if he doesn’t find his best team soon, he won’t be here for much longer.
What did you expect? Hardly supportive to give a player who was having his first match and scored a 5 is it?
October 24, 2020 at 10:55 pm #196552But Cox knew what he was letting himself in for, but after ten games, we are still playing defensive unentertaining football, and still losing every wek. Can you honestly say Heath that you are happy the way things have gone, and are still going, there are bigger clubs than ours that have dropped out of the football league, and have found it very difficult to get back in. Would you be happy if we where relegated from league 2 ???, and what period of time do you consider to be given to a manager of a team now rooted at the bottom with Southend :- JUST GIVE ME YOUR VIEW ON TIME??, another five games, another ten games????????????
Still only Ironawe given his marks and comments, thanks for that, I know a few will do theirs tomorrow, no problem, but there must surely be Scunthorpe supporters that are not happy with the way things are.
Cass, I really did not see a lot of young Rows on the ball, and it was not through him that earned my 5 extra PL points, it was my skill ha ha!, only joking mate, and I am not hard, in fact very quiet and easy going.
October 24, 2020 at 11:14 pm #196553Where have I said anywhere that I am happy with the way things are going or would be OK if we got relegated. We are where we are and we all know the reasons why. It’s not all this manager’s fault though is it?
October 25, 2020 at 1:40 am #196554I still find it difficult to comprehend you giving Rowe and Taylor a 4. Rowe isn’t a CB by trade and still played really well.
If that’s anything to go by..I’d want him ahead of a fit Clarke to be honest. I thought he looked very promising.
Beestin as well is what we’ve been crying out for. Begs the question, why the hell wasn’t he playing ?
Green ran riot at times as well…final decision a bit off at times but that will come with game time.
I know he’s seen more of a winger but what about trying him upfront ?
October 25, 2020 at 10:32 am #196559Heath, at the end of the day mate, it is the manager that selects the players for the team, it is the manager that decides the tactics, it is the manager that controls the subs etc, and it is the job of the manager to do his job and obtain results, it is not completely the fault of the manager, it is obvious that the coaching staff are failing badly, also the Chairman, directors and the clubs board that are in complete control of the club, so for the past three years, the club have gone backwards and backwards, and the supporters are left with what we now have, an unentertaining team that is playing defensive rubbish for 70% of matches.
At the end of the day, anyone that is in charge of any team that has won one match out of ten, is sitting second from bottom of league two, and is out of two Cup competitions (three when the 1st round of the FA Cup is played), remember it is only October and once again our season is finished, it is not the fault of supporters, it is not the fault of Scunny Bunny, not the fault of club stewards, it is the combined fault of the club management and some of the players that have not been giving their best.
Wondergoals, I did agree with you that Onariase, Beestin and Green all played very well, that’s why I gave the three players my top rating marks, but do not agree with you that Taylor played well pal, he had a bad game last week but played very well the game before, so he can play well, and I honestly did not see much of Rowe during tge match, which just proves that opinions differ, thats what its about mate, it does not decide which of us is correct though, it just shows difference of opinions.
Your polite thoughts please
October 25, 2020 at 11:39 am #196565Although the stats will say that was our sixth defeat out of eight league games I think yesterday could have been the turning point.
I’m not sure if you can really assess the performance the way we have done previous weeks because of the circumstances. Firstly the long term injuries were still missing (although good to see Clarke on the bench) plus a couple of new ones in Eisa and Watson. Looks like we had another 4/5 isolating plus of course the main coaches including the manager.
The game should have been postponed, but it wasn’t. Many of our starting XI would never have played together in a competitive match before. Howard had only arrived 48hrs earlier.
Okay we lost 3-1 which looks like a bad defeat, but as outlined above, individually no one had as bad a performance as we witnessed against Cambridge & Cheltenham. As Lesgeo says, we learned a lot about the squad yesterday. I’m certainly not as depressed as I was last weekend.
I don’t want to sound like UTI99 but I’ll scatter a few more crumbs of comfort. We’ve played six of the top seven teams and taken points off two of them. And believe it or not there is still a team worse than us both in terms of points and GD!
Bartonscorpion, you clearly think Cox should go sooner than later. But what is the option? Another manager coming in to work with players he didn’t sign?
Like life is at the moment, we’re going to have to tough it out until we can find a cure for the malaise.
October 25, 2020 at 11:56 am #196569I will take your word for that NI,I do hope your right, I must admit the positivity from posters who watched the game yesterday is encouraging, and though I only watched final score it was the first time I have had a buzz about the game this season and was nice to shout at the tv ” come on scunny”.
October 25, 2020 at 2:33 pm #196577BS, the first 8 league matches have been terrible, not arguing with you there. But I ask again, what did you expect from the remnants of a bottom of the league team with lots of new, young non league and out of contract players?
It’s taken 8 matches to sort out who has promise and who doesn’t, hard workers and slackers. We’ve seen Loft have 1 good game, an OK game and not a lot after that. Jarvis showing some promise, but now missing chances. Rowe come in and have a good game (despite your 4 score), Beestin and Hallam have 1 good game, Green do well, Hipploite praised after his first match and not good since. Taylor and McAtee hopefully getting stronger, Onarise first choice centre back, Van Veen and McGahey back soon, new goalie who should have been here from day 1.
We gave Exeter a good game yesterday. Not much to get excited about, we still lost, but some signs of improvement.
I would suggest that our best team is something like this:
Howard
Clarke/Rowe, Onarise, McGahey, Brown
Gillead, Taylor, Beestin, Eisa
Van Veen, McAteeWe’ve not seen anything like that team yet for various reasons, but I hope Cox gets the chance to find a settled side soon, and then we will see whether he can or can’t do the job.
I know and you know and Cox knows he won’t be here for much longer if we keep losing and he continues to pick the wrong players and tactics.
October 25, 2020 at 4:41 pm #196580Pretty much agree with your thinking Heath apart from the front 2.
Both KVV & McAtee need a hard working front man to do the donkey work and keep the centre backs busy. Neither of them have the work ethic or the temperament to do that job. We need Loft, Jarvis or Turan to do that job and create space for them. If they get 10 goals or so as well that would be a bonus.
I do like McAtee as a prospect but he has done eff all yet to be having the big time attitude. Once KVV is fit McAtee is on the bench for me.
October 25, 2020 at 5:19 pm #196583NOT been too impressed with Loft, Jarvis or Turan. If you are going to play a big un, they have to be good and hold the ball up. Cox seems to want to play 1 tall striker up top, and the first 8 games have proved that it doesn’t work.
Much prefer 2 smarter players up front, though I agree that McAtee needs to show more now he’s getting fitter. Don’t know why these players don’t understand that playing well and showing you are a good player is the route to get a good move.
October 25, 2020 at 6:39 pm #196591” Don’t know why these players don’t understand that playing well and showing you are a good player is the route to get a good move.”
Absolutely right Heath, McAtee came to the attention of bigger clubs by showing ability and committment. Being a mardy-arsed part timer will only take him in one direction, shouldn’t take a managerial genius to get that message across.
October 25, 2020 at 8:02 pm #196599Heath, bit unfair regarding Turan he had one full game upfront with Donkey Loft and not really had a sniff since…oh, and he wasn’t even really match fit.
I’d go Olomola or Turan with Kev playing a bit deeper once their fit. Jarvis isn’t a bad player by any means but needs to sort his finishing out.
October 25, 2020 at 8:03 pm #196600It’s not that we don’t have any role models is it. Townsend, Wallace, Holmes, and loan players like Toney, Norwood, Lundstrum, Yates, Johnstone.
Some of the loan players didn’t have much impact here, but I bet all the above have worked hard, given their best and improved their game and fitness levels and all are earning life changing money in the top 2 leagues.
It’s OK for McAtee to be angry about being subbed. It’s up to him to make sure it doesn’t happen too often, unless of course he’s done enough to win a game or two for us.
October 25, 2020 at 10:24 pm #196612Have great sympathy for Cox, a squad that has been mainly signed before his arrival, hardly any league experience for the majority, players and staff affected by Covid, no doubt wages restricted by lack of paying spectators as well as most experienced players injured. Not a good hand to be dealt is it?
Exeter commentators echoed this during yesterdays game and were complimentary of the teams efforts. Ok, it wasnt perfect but IMO there was signs of improvement. Brown and others will surely help when fit.October 25, 2020 at 11:49 pm #196613Some very good comments and a few different views, but when we suggest that things are now looking up after eight league games, lets not forget that although league match number eight was a lot better than games befor, games six and asseven were 1-4 and 0-5 HOME defeats, and even our game eight when things looked better was still a 1-3 defeat, lets not forget that Exeter mase SEVEN changes from last Tuesdays league match!!!
I agree with you Heath that the team you have suggested ud about the best possible team that we can put out, but when you say what did I expect from Cox with the players hehas to work with, well I did understand that he was going to have the team playing attacking entertaining football, with the tactics he has applied to date we have not seen any signs of this happening, it seems like Mr Swanns statements about Championship Football, New Stadiums and thenebuilding GP, but after seven years zero progress has been made, as I see it talk comes easy at SVS.
I have watched Football League soccer at Scunny for 69 years, and feel sad that it heading towards the exit of League football, don’t get me wrong, I would love to be wrong, but things look really grim as I see it, bottom of the league, no money and a poor performing squad, but one shining light is that some fans are not too depressed with things, I just hope that you guys are right and we can then all smile.
October 26, 2020 at 12:29 am #196616Good response BS, we all want them to improve and you are right that the team needs to have a go and be more attacking. We have proven that when we play not to lose, we lose!!
October 26, 2020 at 5:03 pm #196660Fully agree, but will it happen mate?????
October 26, 2020 at 8:52 pm #196669Heath, bit unfair regarding Turan he had one full game upfront with Donkey Loft and not really had a sniff since…oh, and he wasn’t even really match fit.
I’d go Olomola or Turan with Kev playing a bit deeper once their fit. Jarvis isn’t a bad player by any means but needs to sort his finishing out.
Why the obsession with Olomola?
Granted I’ve hardly seen him play but you seem convinced he’s the answer to our striking problems.
Harsh on Loft aswell.
October 26, 2020 at 9:43 pm #196672Loft has the lowest completed pass % in the league for an outfield player. 38%. He was great against Port Vale and I had high hopes for him, but since then has been so poor.
October 27, 2020 at 9:17 am #196674Carlisle fans did warn us.
October 27, 2020 at 9:56 am #196676Aye! They certainly think Olomola is better.
October 27, 2020 at 10:27 am #196678But shorter, if we want somebody for KVV, McAtee etc to play off then it’s not Olomola.
