Good title for a book ” An ego that destroyed a football club ” .

January 16, 2022 at 8:55 pm #221891So if Zanzala turned us down doesn’t that prove that the loan isn’t hindering our attempts to sign players? We can agree to pay what clubs want but if the player doesn’t fancy it then the loan/budget is irrelevant.
I’ve said this further up in the thread but if we target players who are soon to be out of contract and the only way to get them in right now is to pay a nominal fee and we can’t pay them one…we don’t get the players in now and we need them in now.
Can you not see how that may be a bit of a problem ?
Targeting just loan players is all well and good but we need experienced loan players and that’s a small pool of players to choose from, hence why we need the loan paying off to provide us players in which we can attempt to sign.
How many experienced players do you think will even be left available once everybody else has gone over them ?
I don’t think many would be left. We need that loan paying off ASAP.

January 16, 2022 at 9:02 pm #221894On that point WG, how many more loan slots have we got left in the squad? Can’t be many with:
Hackney
Wood
Matheson
BurnsJanuary 16, 2022 at 9:03 pm #221895would it have led to a different outcome had we been in a position to buy rather than loan? Maybe a 2 year contract would have had more appeal than a 6 month loan.
Exactly my point regarding not being able to pay fees. If we were to offer him a 2yr contract with a clause in the contract that if we were relegated than he would be available for transfer that it would give him assurances that he won’t be tied here if the worse happens and would also be a big dangling carrot for him to score the goals to keep us up.
This is why it’s imperative we’re able to pay fees to increase the chances of players coming here. Nominal fee’s for players would open up so many more avenues.
It’s ok club stooges saying it won’t make a difference but i beg to differ, it would make a huge difference in my opinion.
I don’t know ferrite, I can’t see many slots being left now. That’s another issue.
Club stooges can talk all the bullshit they want but we need that loan paying off to give us any chance because without we haven’t got a prayer.

Topics: 11How much would you gamble on fees in the hope it’s enough to improve our fortunes? Genuine question as it would obviously put the club in debt.
January 16, 2022 at 11:41 pm #221897If the club have any intention of paying off the loan, it wants paying NOW, and that would allow a fee to be paid for new players, it is pointless delaying payment, even by another week, we are drifting behind the other four relegation threatened teams and a points and games in hand gap is getting bigger each week we keep selecting from the present squad, most of our players are simply not good enough!
Either pay off this loan Mr Swann and work with Keith Hill on what is requirered to retain league status, by doing nothing, or just bringing in two or three teenage players with zero experience of league football is not the answer, and everyone knows it isn’t.
By doing nothing, added to the fact that Cox was kept as manager for twelve months too long.has driven many supporters away from attending this present shower, you say supporters should all come back, then give us reason for doing so, it is a simple fact of life, fans are not interested in watching the rubbish that they have endured over at least the past three years, you change it Mr Swann, and most supporters would be glad to return, but this present situation has been caused by yourself, and nothing that you have said has come to light, and you have taken our club from the brink of Cgampionship football to being bottom of league 2, with gates of 4,500 to 5,000 to the present 2,026 including away fans!!, YOU MUST TAKE ACTION TO CORRECT YOUR MISS-MANAGEMENT THAT HAS TAKEN US THUS.
And now you are back on the Forum UPTHEIRON99, we can do without your backing of Swann with your bullshit.

The club is already 12+ million in debt. The damage has already been done. I can’t see how Swann paying off the loan he did say himself he was going to pay off, getting a few players off the books by paying their contracts up and getting 3 or 4 more experienced players via nominal fees would make that much difference.
If Swann does the right thing and we go down it add’s another, let’s say 500k in debt vs us doing nothing, going down and losing much more.
I know which option I’d take.

January 17, 2022 at 12:57 am #221903Maybe Swann is skint more skint than it appears ..or not being allowed to blow anymore cash on SUFC by his wife and / or others involved in his business dealings… doubtful more likely hes going back on what he said he would do.

January 17, 2022 at 3:37 pm #221933Interesting results from Brentford today: just shows how speculating to accumulate can deliver some seriously handy results. Basically: they’ve turned every £1 invested into £1.50 in terms of transfer fees over the last 7 years.
Since Brentford were promoted to the Championship in 2014 they have spent £95m on players and generated sales of £151m, shows that spending it smartly makes more sense than just spending it. pic.twitter.com/s43FEj4mmo

I need time to think about that … memory may have to go back back in time a long way.

January 20, 2022 at 1:03 pm #222153Does SWANN still think it’s NOT NECESSARY to pay the EFL loan off then. He must do otherwise is it another lie to be added? Is he still believing what he said that we are good enough to stay up with this squad of players?
January 20, 2022 at 1:10 pm #222154We have players still out through Covid issues plus more injuries, but no signs of new players this week coming in so replying on the Youth players, has he thrown the towel in, feel sorry for Keith Hill, over to UTI99 for updates.

Topics: 11Maybe someone from this board could kidnap a couple and force them to sign for us? It would appear you don’t like players exercising their right to say yes or no to a move.
January 20, 2022 at 2:00 pm #222157Anyone have an idea how much the loan is? Hull’s new Turk, replacing two turds, has paid their EFL loan back. Rumour at the time was it was for 500k, but it turns out it was actually £2.5 million!
January 20, 2022 at 2:05 pm #222158The loan is restrictive and that is the main problem. As I understand it:-
We can’t pay a fee
Squad size is limited
We can only offer 1 year deals (although we appear to have sneaked a couple in)
As we know we’re no longer paying big wages (rightly) and our league position is ‘precarious’ we have precious little to recommend us. However it is within the club’s power to improve the situation should they wish to.6 users thanked author for this post.
January 20, 2022 at 2:45 pm #222160Time is fast running out for SWANN to save any respect and credibility which he has left. Supporters have very little if any left for him now anyway. He is proving by his inaction that he has no respect for Scunthorpe United FC and our supporters.

January 20, 2022 at 3:21 pm #222165The loan is restrictive and that is the main problem.
And it was taken out at a time when we were already struggling with a sub-standard squad and poor management.
It has actually worsened the situation, not improved it.
Swann is not going to pay it off so we’re effectively hamstrung and going down with a whimper.

January 20, 2022 at 3:25 pm #222167Another loan player in today, a player from Wolves on loan till the end of season, sorry but no other details, but I am just hoping that it is not another teenager that has zero football league experience, we can have a team with lets say three youngsters, but cannot have a team containing seven or eight in the clubs present league position.
January 20, 2022 at 3:41 pm #222171are you sure BS, can’t see anything but hope you are right, probably the player we got from them last week
January 20, 2022 at 8:01 pm #222205Newcastle don’t have said loan, and have all the money a club could want, yet couldn’t attract a top flight manager and at the moment can’t attract the players either, arguably we attracted a better manager in our situation, than they have with all their grubby money, so why anyone thinks paying off the loan would help is deluding themselves Imo.
January 20, 2022 at 11:11 pm #222217We did get a good manager Awaywego, but it was 12 months too late!!!
And Newcastle still have their money and ground, we have lost ours by very bad management over the past six years.

January 21, 2022 at 10:06 am #230083SWANNS words “pay the loan off if necessary”. It’s looking very bleak at this time for our league status, and looks as if swann is not going to pay off the loan. By his words “IF NECESSARY”, so obviously he doesn’t think it necessary to try and keep Scunthorpe United in the football league. Actions speak much louder than empty words. So he has proved what his intentions are by his own worthless statement.
