Respect to Mr Turnbull and the team behind the scenes for putting on a decent afternoon’s entertainment last weekend: I want to get excited and share the same optimism as some on here but refuse to get too excited. There are still some huge issues that Turnbull and co have to address and I hope to see gradual improvements at the next few home games. I have seen it suggested that the club gave away nearly 1,000 free tickets for last week’s game, so in reality there were very few paying fans on top of those that have already shelled out for season tickets. It looked a healthy ish crowd on paper but how many games can we dish out this many tickets and rely on a very small amount of paying casual customers? The Iron Bar was busy, a really nice vibe with the guy on the guitar and many were enjoying it. by all accounts the bar did a roaring trade, but imagine how much beer could have been sold if they had enough staff and wait times were less than twenty minutes for a pint! I appreciate more staff = more wages to pay but if they are going to do this kind of thing regularly then it is A MUST that they have the staff to run it work effectively and efficiently. It was even worse than normal and needs addressing. Thirdly, they were announcing the availability of match day and match ball sponsorship at reduced prices ahead of a televised match. You’d imagine this should have been an easy sell. I did not hear a match sponsor announced on the day of the match (may be wrong) so again, reduced income from a commercial perspective. I wonder if we have sponsors lined up for the forthcoming home games or not? This is bread and butter for a lower league club and should be a key focus. So Lee and co, good work so far. It was better on so many levels. But there is a long way to go to convince me that the club are moving forward after years of decline.

August 12, 2022 at 9:52 am #242512I don’t think anyone was suggesting that cracks were being papered over, merely just showing appreciation for the massive culture change that has occurred during the last couple of months.
There is still work to do, but if we can’t actually enjoy it when the club get things right both on and off the pitch then what’s the point ? The Yeovil game just felt like a massive release of pressure and was one the most enjoyable afternoons following the club I can remember in a long time.
In terms of sponsorship- if the feel good factor continues and the club continue to work hard in the community, then naturally the money should follow.

August 12, 2022 at 11:11 am #242514They get a better crowd than anyone expected, boo hoo were not having any of that, let’s say they gave away a thousand tickets aah that sounds better we can live with that. “Saddo”. First and foremost Scunny played well and won with the fans creating a great atmosphere, who really gives a shit how many pints were sold or who are sponsoring us. Though it was nice to see a family sponsoring the match ball and not a company, well done them.

Spot on. I couldn’t have said it better myself. Turnbull has done a terrific job and the matchday experience as a whole against Yeovil was superb and it was backed up by brilliant fan support on the day as a result.
There will be certain people that just simply won’t ever be pleased by anything.

August 17, 2022 at 10:50 am #242804This Saturdays crowd and the match day experience will be a pointer to papering over the cracks, win or lose and the last two away games have been lost, should not detract from the long term objectives of Lee and his merry men. The last home game was a win with a good crowd helped enormously by the pre match experience, in theory whilst the weather holds the experience should continue, we shall wait and see what transpires this Saturday.
August 17, 2022 at 11:10 am #242807What did you tell us lucent? Your post was about the match day at home sod all to do with the football side of it. Now the football side of it theres another matter!.

The entire thought processes, planning, developing, implementation and improvements need to be on the field of play.
The Club exists to play football … end of.
The shiny stadium, best dressed supporters, most glamorous restrooms, glossy 100 page programs and all the other stuff are distractions.
Focus on the primary objective – Playing & winning football matches.
Time to get back to the basics!
More spit & sawdust needed – less top coat & mascara.A great match day experience is THREE points!

August 17, 2022 at 1:30 pm #242821Three points are always important but when we were winning a few years back people were moaning about drab facilities, poorly maintained toilets and no match day vibe. Guess it’s proving difficult to get the balance right eh.

August 22, 2022 at 6:33 pm #243347New Concession prices announced. Shamlessly chasing the Khaki Pound.
Following the introduction of a Key Worker rate and a special pricing structure for supporters claiming benefits, the club are now outlining the finer details of our special rates.
Here at Scunthorpe United, we want football to be accessible for all and understand that some supporters have to choose between putting food on the table, the heating on in winter and purchasing clothes for their children which ultimately results in other things falling by the wayside.
Iron COO Lee Turnbull began the season by offering three family tickets to the opening three games for people who unfortunately find themselves on benefits or are struggling at the moment during the current financial climate. One of those supporters taking advantage of the offer, Harry, recently commented: “While the cost-of-living increases, the tickets from Scunthorpe United have helped keep my son’s favourite day out and not have to cut back on other things. He suffers from ASD and watching football is the highlight of his week.
“SUFC is a real family club and the stewards in the Family Zone alway say hi to Archie. The club was even gracious enough to let us pick the seats we always book. Thank again and up the Iron!”
We also understand that the nature of a Key Workers’ shift pattern renders a season ticket sometimes unworthy. Additionally, the club want to support and celebrate the work that goes on in these industries, not only during the pandemic, but on a day-by-day basis as well. A number of companies offer discounts to Key Workers, especially through the Blue Light Card, so why should the Iron be different?!
Supporters can take advantage of the concessionary rate for themselves if they fall under either of the categories on production of valid evidence to the ticket office. These rates will be available for every home league game of the 2022-23 season on a match-by-match basis.
These offers are available in-store and over the phone only and are not currently available online. Once any documentation has been provided to our ticket office staff, this will be noted on your account for the 2022-23 season, meaning you won’t have to produce this again to take advantage of the rates.
For further queries, please contact the ticket office by emailing sufctickets@scunthorpe-united.co.uk or by calling 01724 747670.
