Just been released – exactly the type of player we should go for. Long shot I know but this is the experienced head we need, if the club is around next season (big if) then we should be building around these players.

Will Swann will no doubt be checking football manager as we speak

That would sell a few more season tickets at least.

Are they both carrying injuries?, That would be my concern if they chose to come here, there will be clubs with bigger budgets than ours in the National League next season who will no doubt fancy this pair also.

We nearly got Padraig a few seasons ago – not sure why the deal never happened.

Used to score for fun but Newport loaned him to Exeter.
3 goals in 26 games and is 34.

Need national league players who are hungry for success, not a team of league money grabbers.

Your right David, however I don’t think there will be much money to grab at G P next season.

We gave players like Vose, Margetts, Jarvis, Green, Onariase, Mooney, KDT and others an opportunity to become EFL players. None of them succeeded, sometimes these players are NL for a reason – that’s their level. Many NL players have reached league level with different clubs, but not us lately. Is it our scouting or our coaching methods that are flawed?

We need less Voses and more Woolfords, although I don’t think he came cheap back then so we’ve got no chance getting that calibre of player these days!

In every 5 games Woolford would: play one blinder; one good; one solid; one average and one anonymous.
We always remember the ‘worldies’, of course.

4 out of 5 average or better, oh for a few of those next season. But it’s his goals I remember les – GOALS!!!!! Do you remember when we scored some? Northumbiron will have great memories.

No Mick, in normal times this could be the type of player we go for. I don’t believe we are after anyone

Where did Ron Ashman find all of his bargain basement players – against the odds – and even bringing in those with character?

Amond is still a legend at Blundell Park for firing us back into the league last time we were down here . Unfortunately he left as our former chairman only offered him a one year deal after scoring 30 goals in a season for us. The fishy has had a thread every pre season since ,clamouring for us to re-sign him . Most town fans now think he’s past his best and probably not a signing for a team aiming to finish in the top 5.
He’s a class player though . Great touch , doesn’t score great goals more of a fox in the box who has a knack for being in the right place at the right time .
Although his record wasn’t great at Exeter , he was mainly used as a back up in a promotion chasing side and most of his appearances were off the bench .
I’m sure at this level if you could get 30-35 games out of him he’d get you 15 goals. His game doesn’t rely on pace so age shouldn’t be a problem so long as he can stay fit.
Don’t take my word for it though , players who were fantastic at one club don’t always fit in at another team . Woolford and Vose mentioned in some of your posts are an example .Good players for you but absolute dog doo for us and the reverse with Macatee who has been far and away our best player this season .

A reasonable post Captain until you suggested Vose was good for us.

Only managed 2 appearances and I think they were as sub. Also McAtee was excellent here but only while Hurst was in charge. He can’t be arsed to play for anyone else.

Didn’t realise that Vose only played twice for you MK, he came as billed as a star signing for us, although at the time it was probably a sign of how far we had fallen ! As you said he looked like he couldn’t be arsed from day one !

Vose now plays in the heady heights of the Gibraltar league.

Mind you if he’s prepared to play for 10 bob a week we may well re-sign him for next season.
