Gonna lay down some snotty rules here
No Dylan and Byrds ,Nine Inch Nails and Cash

    You must like both
    Keep comments short

    1st one for me .

St Emmylou nails this one for me , both amazing versions of what some call the greatest country song ever but the Emmylou Version is the one that caught the eye and helped start the Townes legend .Also she couldn’t fail to nail it with one of the best bands ever

Cover for me. But yes, love both. Electing Wyatt for musical reasons and fond memories of Peel shows and festive 50 challenges with Anarchy in the UK and Atmosphere

Original. Though I like Bauhaus’s faster and raw cover. I’ve also been told they were good lads so I’ve got a soft spot for them. And probably got the single somewhere in the shed.

It has to be Beatles, in sincerity. However, Shatner’s has a so bad it’s good quality. It’s just absurd how he could do this and no-one told him it’s not a good idea or they did and he didn’t listen. I can see how Futurama based Zapp Brannigan off him. I would have done the more absurd cover of Mr Tambourine Man, but the rules stated no Dylan, so anyone curious do check that out.

Original was of its time but Mark E Smith gives it a tongue in cheek quirkyness.

Love both. Not electing one over the other. Depending what mood I’m in, either could win

Always the original but always loved the Frente version. A beautiful take on a sublime track.

Like someone said above, it depends on the moment/mood, no? The uke(?) version is great if you’re tired n hungover. Which one for you?
Here’s another rip-roaring cover….. no need for the version we all know..

I prefer the more manic sound of the original Pixies version, but Fontaines do a good job in covering it in their own way with a Joy Division-esque feel. A good cover should always be different. There is no point in the covers which just sound the same as the original in my opinion.

Cocker’s ‘Friends’? A great rendition with a sort of evangelical quality to it. An atheist hymn? The Woodstock version is good, too.
Two more: Hard to beat the original but Tena’s Molotov make it their own …..

Precipitated by my broken washing machine (and subsequent personal repair today – get in!!). First heard the Wyatt version on Peel but can’t deny the original wins for me
