I’m not berating Hill, for those on this thread who still think he’s the messiah.
But I did read post after post when he was appointed about how he would tighten things up, make the players do this that and the other and generally, we were saved.
We aren’t saved by a long way.
All I’m saying is, going by the maths, we’re down.
November 24, 2021 at 10:40 am #218399I think that Hill will have learnt a lot from yesterday, the effort was there, ability wasn’t, organization wasn’t good, big gaps in defence which gave them a goal and could have given them a few more, we played with Kenyon in front of the center backs when probably you want someone behind, I don’t know whether the gaps between Taft and Manny is because they had been used to playing 3 in central defence, midfield looked lightweight, Pugh and Beestin can play a lot better, and the forward line terrible until Scrimshaw came on.

Again, show me posts where posters thought we were saved when he was appointed.
The general feeling I got, and my opinion also, was that he was the best appointment we could make at the time.
He’s got the track record to prove so.
November 24, 2021 at 11:54 am #218401He arrived with 31 league games to go. He has to look at all those available in 1st team games and then he can see what his starting 11 would be. Suspect his last possible several player changes will be on saturday against bradford.
We know some are not good enough and he will be writing his own list of future departures. In his Orient post match Mr Hill rates Tom Pugh and Mason O’Malley who look like they bought into what the Gaffer wants.

November 24, 2021 at 12:48 pm #218404Shocking display IMO, biggest robbery since Brinksmat! Massive hole between the 2 CBs all game, Taft, Thompson, Kenyon, Pugh, Loft & Jarvis terrible,
I must have been watching the wrong game, I see that Pugh & Jarvis are on the MOM shortlist. Shows how easy it is to win when you play for The Iron.

Alcy wants you all to bow down to him at the end of the season as the only one on here who said we are going down. The guru!!
Everyone knows the team is crap, we are bottom of the league and we know how many points we have. All you are doing is stating the bleeding obvious.
You are pointing the finger at Hill, but somebody needs to manage this team and try to improve them. Looks an almost impossible task, but at least he is improving the players fitness and providing motivation that has been lacking for over 18 months.

November 24, 2021 at 4:06 pm #218413It’s all about what happens in January. I find it hard to believe that Keith Hill came here without a pledge that he can get rid of some of the deadwood and buy some players that he had when he was managing other teams.
I won’t be judging him until I see him have at least a handful of his own chosen players.
All said, a point was the best we could expect from the shower he had to choose from last night.
November 24, 2021 at 4:25 pm #218414Last night was dreadful, it was a 1-1 thrashing. Orient could, indeed should of had another 4 or 5 goals. With each and every match I watch I come away thinking that a majority of the players are just not up to League 2 standard. They make way too many basic mistakes, and when put under any pressure fold like a cheap Burtons suit.
Whoever put this squad together should hang their head in shame. If they actually thought that this squad could hold its own in League 2 they must of been smoking too much of the Devil’s lettuce. This is the 3rd season in a row where we’ve seen nothing shy of sheer incompetence in our transfer dealings, with each season actual getting worse than the previous!
I feel a little for Keith Hill however, he knew exactly what the landscape was when he applied and then accepted the role of Chief Turd Polisher at Scunthorpe United FC. I am hoping that he will somehow manage to strengthen the squad in the transfer window, but lets be honest with the constraints around the EFL loan, Swann, dwindling crowds, and relegation likely, we are hardly likely to be able to attract any player who would be of the required standard to get us out of this mess.
In short – as Tommy in Snatch said “Now we are f**ked”
November 24, 2021 at 5:44 pm #218420Last night Orient were streets ahead of us interms of fitness and technical ability but we still came out of it with something. How many times in the past have we deserved to win and either drawn or lost. We take the point and move on. The one thing I would say is that we are starting to look fitter which can only help. Good luck for the rest of the season Keith but some wins sooner rather than later would really help.

Shut up, lefty libtard that you are.
I’m pointing the finger at no-one.
I’m pointing OUT that MAYBE Hill isn’t the answer, and MAYBE we are too far off being save-able for Hill or anyone to do owt.Get over the FACT that I’ve been right more often than not, write the apology you owe me for previous insults etc and then do one.
Or aren’t you man enough to admit it?
November 24, 2021 at 10:04 pm #218442Insults? Pretty good at them yourself. If Hill isn’t the answer, please feel free to give the answer.

November 24, 2021 at 10:44 pm #218443Carlisle signed Howard on about seven games ago, six have been defeats.
Four out of their last seven have been clean sheets and Howard played in all of them.
So not as bad as you’d have us believe!
Howard had his limitations, but anybody serious suggesting that given the choice, they’d rather have Watson should seriously be questioning their sanity….
November 25, 2021 at 1:51 am #218447Watched the Kenny Jacket post match interview and he was spot on in all he said .. Orient were the way better side but their finishing was terrible on any other day the game should of been out of sight by the time Scunny equalized.
Makes a change from many other managers that use a post match media chat to rant about the officials or bad luck or terrible decisions etc etc .. must come with experience but he came across very well… drifting back to Cox .. in hindsight his pre and post match ramblings were at best total bollox.Does Hill do any such post match media interviews ? yet to see one other than on the SUFC website.

Me! I would. Howard was crap and this season’s version of Watson is a serious upgrade on him.

He was on Humberside before 10pm on Tuesday, sounded to me like he’s already trying to distance himself a bit from the job he’s inherited.
November 25, 2021 at 11:11 am #218464Encouraging pre match interview today saying wherever you are in the league you must try for the 3 points, something that’s been missing while Cox was in charge.

November 25, 2021 at 4:53 pm #218474The idea that it’s gonna be impossible to sign decent players in January is wrong.
A fair number on here were claiming that no self-respecting manager would ever come here if Cox were sacked. Well – we have brought in as good as we could have hoped. Better even.
They were wrong.
It is far more serious for a manager to take on the job than it is for a player who is out of favour to sign til the end of the season at a failing club. Yes the target pool will reduce but the players to get us out of trouble are available.Far more of a worry is if our position worsens over the next seven games. We are still in reach at the moment but if we were, say, 6 points adrift of safety – then it’ll become harder.
Seven games. Two wins, three defeats and 2 draws would probably keep us in touch long enough to stand some chance of putting a number of things right at the very start of January.November 25, 2021 at 5:58 pm #218480“The idea that it’s gonna be impossible to sign decent players in January is wrong.”
Based on what? We have struggled to sign quality players for the last few seasons, and now we are operating under the restrictive T&C’s of the EFL loan that Swann signed us up for.
Try as I might I cannot see any decent player wanting to come to Scunthorpe in the transfer window unless Swann returns to the heady days of signing players on unsustainable wages. To do that, Swann would need to pay-off the EFL loan, and find a way to inject finances into the club without falling foul of the FFP rules.
I hope I am wrong, but I just cannot see how we can sign quality. The best we can hope for is that we manage to offload a few of the dustbins we have in the squad, and replace them with loan signings that are hand picked by Keith Hill.

November 25, 2021 at 7:58 pm #218487Les, it’s good that you are trying yo show optimism, but please try and keep it realistic.😄😄😄
November 26, 2021 at 12:41 am #218490I hope Swan will splash some cash in January ..alas realistically i dont see it happening .. cant even be arsed to chuck in the funds to fix the scoreboard at GP… hopefully as previously posted we will still be in touch with others. its already looking like a 3 horse relegation battle as it stands now.

In what way distancing himself … what did he say to make you think that?
November 26, 2021 at 7:18 am #218494Alcy – I’m a born pessimist.
It’s not something I admire in myself and so I try incredibly hard to compensate.1 user thanked author for this post.

I dunno, hard to put my finger on it exactly, I just got the feeling that he was still talking more as an outsider than as someone who really felt part of the club. I might be doing him a complete disservice, in which case I apologise, like I say it was more an impression that I got from listening to him.
November 26, 2021 at 9:27 am #218497Sounded refreshingly honest to me. Was proud of his players effort whilst accepting they are not very good. Talked of improving the quality of his hard working less technical players and getting more work out of the more competent players.
Makes a lot of sense and more interesting than “We trained really well this week”.
Did not sense the distancing mentioned but let’s face it – Hill did not pick any of the 25 players he has inherited and would have been unlikely to pick more than 4 or 5 of them.

There’s always answers.
Just not enough money.
Still no apology?
I was right and uou were wrong.
A simple “sorry” will do.🙂November 26, 2021 at 10:24 am #218500Fair points MK, maybe I’m reading too much into it, happy to be proven wrong.
November 26, 2021 at 10:30 am #218501Apology for what, think you are confusing me with somebody else.
