Massive 3 points gained at Oldham today at a good performance to go with it. Few big names back in but KVV and Clarke still not managing 90. 1 point is all that keeps us in the dreaded relegation zone with 3 games in hand. Are we starting to look up? Onwards and upwards I say. UTI
November 14, 2020 at 5:28 pm #197477KvV got 82 minutes and Jordan 91!
I reckon they managed bloody well don’t you?
Whether or not they can recover in time for Tuesday is another matter.
November 14, 2020 at 5:31 pm #197481Very strange to call out Clarke…only back training yesterday and was substituted after 90 mins because he got cramp. Give him some credit!
November 14, 2020 at 5:31 pm #197482Yes I definitely think so Nothumbiron. Just listened to Cox on Humberside and he said he kept them both playing slightly longer then expected, Clarke when he pulled up was only cramp so nothing to worry too much about. He said Tuesday might come too soon, but yeah both did very well. Kvv definitely in with a strong shout for MOTM.
Much better performance and one I enjoyed watching today. Let’s hope for more of the same with a big test against Vale.November 14, 2020 at 5:33 pm #197483Don’t a worry I’m not calling them out, just stating they didn’t play the 90 for those who didn’t watch. I think they both did very well and was chuffed when I saw them both in the lineup. Two big players returning
November 14, 2020 at 5:34 pm #197484Should be ok for tuesday Northumbiron, Port Vale also had a game today and lost 3-4at home, and one player will miss tuesdays game after a late red card, actually they were winning at 90 mins but let in two injury time goals.
November 14, 2020 at 5:38 pm #197485Top performance today. Exactly Hawks11 onwards and upwards (love the positive spin, we seem to get a lot of negativityon here), with games in hand dare we look at mid table. Apart from the first 15-20 mins the better team. We looked strong at the back, the central midfield did their jobs. The wide men worked hard but gave us a threat. kvv and loft always caused trouble. With a blend of youth and experience a good day.
November 14, 2020 at 5:47 pm #197486with games in hand dare we look at mid table.
Behave!
November 14, 2020 at 5:55 pm #197487There we go again Mr “negative” Northumbiron
November 14, 2020 at 5:56 pm #197488First game I’ve enjoyed in a long time. Everybody put a shift in and KVV’s quality shone through. To be fair Oldham were pretty terrible and if they had a better finisher it could have been a different story but I’m glad to get an excellent 3 points on the board.
November 14, 2020 at 5:57 pm #197489If we can stay in this division and hang onto our better players – the whole squad will be much more mature next season.
I reckon that we’ll be looking upwards.November 14, 2020 at 6:03 pm #197490It proves the supporters right though, you need at least 50% experience.
November 14, 2020 at 6:12 pm #197491@mistertonmick yes today has probably proved how much we have missed some players in the squad and how much of a boost it was having them back.
November 14, 2020 at 6:40 pm #197492There we go again Mr “negative” Northumbiron
I prefer the term “realist” or even “pessimist”. After all pessimists are never disappointed!
November 14, 2020 at 8:06 pm #197500EandMee needs to calm down. Taylor is out for the next 2 weeks so we’re really, really stretched in CM now. Also with Vincent out still, only leaves us with Hornshaw and Pugh as back up’s.
I’ll be a lot more at ease when Taylor is due back, leaves he’ll give us another viable option in there.
I’m over the moon with the win but let’s go overboard, it’s only 1 win.
November 14, 2020 at 8:13 pm #197501It was much improved that’s for sure.
Oldham were not a good side and didn’t threaten a lot but we have lost to worse sides this season already.
Could’ve had a couple more but we didn’t panic and a clean sheet is a big bonus.
A large step in the right direction let’s hope we stick to 442 and we can keep it going.
November 14, 2020 at 8:16 pm #197502All thought 4/4/2 was our best formation, we’ve never really played any good using other formations. Keeping it simple works best for us, also we have 2 of the best wingers in this division when both are fit, which certainly helps.
November 14, 2020 at 8:40 pm #197504You are spot on Mike, we have been terrible whilst having four or five young guys playing, a team needs some old heads and today prooved it.
You are also correct Northumbiron, one win and eight lossws in our last nine matches does not make you shoot up the league, in fact only Oldham out of the top ten managed to lose today, a few draws, but we need to string a good run together to shoot up the table, but today was a good start. In my opionion todays team apart from McGahey was about our best possible team we can up out, and I do not know who we can leave out to accomodate him, but no doubt there will be an injury before long.
November 14, 2020 at 9:09 pm #197505This result shows we have the players and 1’am Really pleased for everyone at the club! Hopefully our injuries and Covid problems are behind us and we can push on.
I know one result doesn’t make a season but it’s a very tiny step today, If Jordan Clarke, junior brown, Harrison McGahey, Jordan Hallam and Kevin van veen can stay fit we have a great spine to the team.
I also think in Alfie Beestin, and Jake Taylor we have two potentially very good midfielders, (I thought Alfie was M.O.M) another decent performance on Tuesday and things suddenly start to look a lot better.November 15, 2020 at 7:48 am #197517I have been getting increasingly impressed with Beestin over recent weeks but did not foresee that he would play so well with Spence. Perhaps a lot had to do with the larger number of available options for both players with more experience around them.
Hope this is not just a flash in the pan.
A real CM partnership would be a huge boost.
Most games are going to be rather tougher than yesterday’s opposition, though.
What’s more, the bench is going to look very strong in the coming months.November 15, 2020 at 12:47 pm #197532Good to read 4 4 2 was evident – trying to reinvent the wheel does not work long term for us.
But the 3pts from Oldham will mean nothing if we do not win on tuesday. Because others near to us also won.
37 games left and our aim must be 111 pts from them.
November 15, 2020 at 1:30 pm #197536@wondergoals EandMee needs to calm down, I’m like a mill pond.
As for if we don’t win on Tuesday the Oldham result means nothing….now that’s a “behave”. With the 3pts from yesterday, if we take between 5 and 7 points from the next 3 games, realistic (8 to 10 points from 4 games), that’s a decent return and we can all look onwards and upwards.November 15, 2020 at 6:37 pm #197566Like you say scorpion unless your the best of the best young players need an experienced players to be on the pitch with them, one thing that really helps all young players are talkers, helping guide and position help on the pitch.
November 15, 2020 at 7:08 pm #197569Not sure how much you can read into it at this stage but Oldham are the first team in the bottom 9 we’ve played.
That coupled with the return of Van Veen, Clarke and possibly Mcghaey should see us steadily get some points on board.
