Ross Barrow on loan to Ilkeston for three months, Habib Mankanjuola in on a dual registration deal with Ilkeston, non contract too. That’s a first for me TBH.

So we signed Barrow in the summer and loan him out after 1 game? Call me crazy but that seems a strange way of doing things.

all a tad strange .. feel a bit of sympathy for Barrows with his ties to Scunny from an early age.

So we do have a reserve team after all?

Yep it’s called Ilkeston, see Patrick for details.

Appears like we’re the ITFC feeder club.

I can understand the Barrows loan; broke his leg in November and needs the minutes, highly unlikely to displace Ogle either.

Signing another midfielder is just baffling. Back to warehousing players again.

Only saw Barrows in the second half at Gainsborough at right back when he looked very good and the second half of the Burton game when he replaced Kouogan at centre back. Looked pretty decent then as well.

Probably brought in thinking Ogle would bring in some cash. Probably a good idea for him to get game time and full fitness. Ilkeston is as good a place to do that as anywhere else.

Supposed to be a nippy creative midfielder with really good dribbling skills and technique. I know we have a lot of midfielders but we haven’t got that type at the club from the centre of the pitch. Butterfield as we all know have a lot of ability but not got that much pace and isn’t the most agile at his age.

Least he’s different to what we’ve currently got. On the face of it, it’s a good deal. When he isn’t in our squad, he goes to Ilkeston and get’s minutes there and feels his way into football at this level. I was hinting at the harshness rather than the ability.

I think they are hoping for a quick return if they can get him to fulfil his potential. I have been told he can do it IF he wants !!

On another note …..looking at the training pics on the club website and the short vid on the FB page there seemed to be 2 or 3 faces missing and a couple i did not recognize at all ..Roberts , Law and Butterfield were the ones i noticed being absent ..at least when the photographer was there.

Less smiles also .. i hope all is well with the boys.

So why did we sign him in the first place, given we’ve apparently got very little money and are cutting staff costs left, right & centre?

How about dual registration of managers?
If one’s having a tough time and the other is doing well – then flip them between the two clubs.

The plan I believe was to turn over the wage bill ratio to favour the playing squad rather than other staff, so you’ve answered your own question in a way. Sorry Ferrite I was replying to your question but AA jumped in first.

Plays right back/centre back. Offers cover in both positions. Can justify that signing.

It’s the abundance of midfielders that baffle me. How many minutes are Pugh, Robertson, Wallace getting this year ?

That’s fair but if we’re immediately loaning him out, I’m not sure what the cost/benefit is? It feels at best a luxury that I would not have thought we could really allow ourselves at the moment.

But he won’t be here until Christmas…

Well I’m guessing part of his wages will be payed by the club he’s loaned too so that will offset some of the cost but the plan is surely to assemble a squad large enough to get out of this league this season and therefore numbers will be important in that regard, plenty of injuries and suspensions lay in wait over the coming months and there could be a recall option on Barrow if needs be.

As I said, he broke his leg in November and will be more than likely loaned out to get minutes in. If Ogle or a centre back get injured, we have a player returning who is at least relatively match fit.

Spot on. Some people will not the logical side of the decision and will just moan for the sake of it. As you stated above, he goes out and get’s minutes and if we need him at least he won’t be rusty.

The barrows loan gig makes sense for the reasons stated previously and he is excellent defensive back up but behind Ogle n Kelly in the pecking order.. my only comment was feeling sympathetic due to his ties to the club as a youngern and he does seem like a real nice fella.. hope he returns full of wind n piss and gets a spot in the Iron first team later in the season.
Also i take it Barrows loan was tied to the black lad with the long name coming to Scunny as well.

I get it but as the generations pass I believe people will be seen less in the ” old ways ” and more just as what they are, people. No moral judgement from me just an opinion. An old guy next to me in the East Stand refers to skillful opposition players who are black as ” that darky is fast and strong ” he can’t help it, he’s conditioned by his upbringing and 85 years on the planet thinking and acting a certain way takes some changing and in his case he never will, he will die the way he’s been raised but thankfully generations change and we as humans can move on.

“he can’t help it” Very patronizing. Like a Darlington hospital can’t help asking which of 18 genders a 70 year old is, Nice to see humans moving on.
