Pleased to hear Neil say he is going to play his strongest team for the remainder of the season to see how many points we can get, pity he hasn’t done it earlier, but then again he said we would play attacking entertaining football at the start of the season so hope he doesn’t back track this time.

I was talking to him after yourself Mick, and he told me that after a management meeting with Mussa, he had changed his mind about picking his best team because both Oldham and Tuesdays teams are both on losingn runs and are well overdue wins, so they are to continue playing at least five players that have done nothing during marches, in order to assess if they can be given another two year contracts in June. Cox says that some of his players must have a lot of football in them, because none as come from yjem this season!!!

It is probably a good measure of the excitement and anticipation amongst Iron fans that a thread about an ex player moving to Stockport gets more than twice the posts that the match thread does.

Go on boys, surprise us all and have a few shots at goal!

0-2 to Oldham. 7 shots for us and Neil to say we didn’t pass the ball well enough.

I’m taking Mistertons suggestion of forecasting a defeat in hope we win.

Probably our strongest side considering the injuries. Tough that three of our better players are vying for the same two central midfield berths!

Well we had around three times that many, with half of them on target, but didn’t manage a goal until deep into added time.

    Frustrating stuff.

    Thoughts:
I won’t blame the keeper for their goal.
Generally well reffed with a few odds and ends to niggle me.
Why so little ball reaching Gilliead until the last 15 minutes?
Effort levels were significantly higher than intelligence levels.
Disciplinary issues apart, Eisa has not been worth a place for more than half a dozen games.
    McAtee looked bright.
Teddy looks better than I’d been expecting.
Loft was not at his best tonight but little ‘clean ball’.

Enjoyed the performance tonight and thought we put together some nice passages of play. Actually showed some intent to test the opposition keeper and was well worthy of a point.

KVV desperately needs a goal, cuts a frustrated figure at the moment.

For one thing Keadby you nearly got one right, I thought the corner in which they scored should have possibly been a goal kick, I thought Rowe kicked it on to their wingers leg, well taken goal by Hallam, Green is turning into a decent player and McAtee played well when he came on, a good game for a change and a fair result though Bedeau could have nicked it.

After all the talk that McAtee is not interested I was surprised how well he played

Green looked a real handful 1st half tonight. Developing into a good player

Match ended with Scunny scoring a 93td min equalizwer to make it 1-1. This being a fair result, after Scunny shading the first half, then not turning iop for the first 35 mins of the second half.

HOWARD—5–Not a lot to do, no real saves of note, should have done better with their goal.
ROWE—6—Looked safe enough, a few good crosses.
BEDEAU—7—I thought he played well today, better than normal.
CLARKE—8—My MOM today, got through a lot of work, and better in midfield than full back.
BROWN—5—Far to many back passes, a few miss placed passes, prefer O’Malley.
GILLIEAD—7–Some very good quick runs by him, a slow starter today.
KARACAN—6—Played ok until a first half injury, hope he is fit soon.
    SPENCE—7—Played well.
GREEN—7—Fast, but lacks finnishing touch, needs to practice finishing runs.
KVV—7—After a poor start, put in many very good set piece crosses, subbed instead of LOFT.
LOFT—6—Tried hard without much impact but got very little support up front.

McAtee looked lively, and maybe time for a start.
    BEESTIN—6—Played ok when brought on.
Hammil–6–Not on long, scored a goal and then injured, looks a ad one possibly.

REF—7—Was ok, but must swat up on the advantagerule, he played advantage many times, and then the team kept possession he blew up, why, why, why.

COX—5—Where was the attacking that he was going to order, maybe just the last 10 mins, Oldham are a poor team, and one win in nine matches backs up that statement, but only one point from the home game, and a last min one at that, this guy will never manage a team that plays attacking football, season ticket sales will not top 200 next season with this management team in charge

Another easy match on Saturduy with another very poor team in Southend, I hope that Cox plays attacking football against them, I am very sure that he will!!!!!

Law of averages kicking in with these recent draws against teams we should have probably beaten, yeah we can moan about Cox and his tactics etc etc etc but we were due a few draws and these things invariably even themselves out over a season. Main thing is we probably won’t need 50 points now to be 100% safe ( I think most of us know we already are ) but just feast your eyes a few miles eastbound along the M180 and imagine how our fishy friends are feeling, in fact don’t imagine just nip on their forum and read. Most of them are on the verge of cutting their own throats ( or gills ) tonight, so let’s be grateful for what we have at GP now after such a poor run up till Xmas. Cox has struggled at times that is true but his playing squad is mainly inexperienced and his senior players have been mainly injured or not fully fit. Cox himself is learning as he goes along in his first job so it’s probably time we cut him a bit more slack and chopping and changing managers hasn’t worked out too well for us in recent years so let’s give this lad a fair crack and hopefully next season won’t feel so traumatic. I’ll put my tin hat on and wait for BS to pass his sever judgement on this post but in truth I don’t give a shit what he says anyway, it’s just an opinion.

On reflection after reading IA’s post I was probably a little harsh on Cox in another thread, he has done enough to keep us up and we are in a better position than the cods, but he does need to try to play more attacking football now the injury situation has improved and stop worrying too much about the opposition. Let’s hope we see some exciting football as he gets more experienced.

The match finally lived up to what I was hoping for in the final 10 minutes.

Teddy Howe was absolutely brilliant, I love a full back who pushes up and pens opposing teams back… maybe he could be better defensively, I don’t know?? But he allowed us the freedom to attack and swing balls into the box and the overlapping with Gilly was fantastic!!

Macca did really well off the bench too, we just can’t find a perfect partner for Loft and we seem to operate better with a 10 behind him rather than someone trying to play up with him, I thought Macca dropped in deep (but not too deep) picked the ball up and used it well spreading play wide and getting us going offensively before pushing up front to join in himself… he’s so comfortable on the ball.

Other than that I thought the ref was excellent, didn’t get drawn into their dives and let a lot go.

Let’s play more like we did in the last 10 please Cox, don’t be afraid!!
Attack is a great form of defence, they can’t hurt us without the ball!!

Bit peeved about their goal, I thought it at the time and upon watching the replays Rowe definitely kicks the ball onto an Oldham players leg before it goes out. Then we get a weak clearance from Bedeau and surely Howard should be doing better, the ball went nowhere near the corner of the net.

Apart from that I didn’t think we did too bad, can’t remember another real chance that Oldham created and was nice to actually see us finishing a game strongly which hasn’t happened very often in recent seasons.

For a big man Loft needs to learn how to control and hold up a football…so frustrating to watch. Clarke probably my MOTM.

We lost our shape a little bit and pushed forward too much,

The word according to our manager in a telegraph report, don’t expect attacking football any time soon .
