Like most other people I’ve spoken to, I’m concerned that it’s all slipping away. The team is terrible – but the players are definitely decent enough to get a tune out of… so you do have to seriously question why Butler and Schofield can’t.
In the last few weeks (and obviously because he’s living locally, is an important part of the club’s history and, you’re presume, available) I’ve heard one or two calls to bring back Laws. Whether that would be as manager or as the Director Of Football or something similar, I don’t know.
I’m on the fence about the idea – though I do think there’s some merit in it. I’m sure he could tidy up the system of play and get this bunch working as a unit. But how would YOU feel about the return of Old Big Hair?

What the idea of it proves, is that we can see that someone with a basic knowledge of football and an ability to deal with players could organise that squad to beat part time pit village and works teams at home.3 users thanked author for this post.

December 2, 2024 at 9:20 am #295001Why would a man who has been out the game awhile, has had health issues in the past and who is best described as yesterday’s man when it comes to current football issues and who is probably just enjoying his time with his family now, put himself under the shit show scrutiny that is the lot of the modern day football manager. Brian is a nice guy who did a good job in his first couple of spells as manager but I’m happy just to see him occasionally in the directors box, watching a game and exchanging a few pleasantries with people. Let’s just leave it at that.

I think we’re in such a unique position (and a dreadful one at that). It needs somebody who can get a tune out of this side, and at this level.2 users thanked author for this post.
December 2, 2024 at 1:22 pm #295019A new manager who has had some all round evidence of success, League/down as far as this level and not too long into the past, would suit me.
However, the budget for management may be rather on the limited side.
Keeping the current pairing and having a Director of Football with powers to overrule might be a possible way forward. Surely less expensive than the alternative.
I’ve heard worse ideas.1 user thanked author for this post.

Already proven Butler and Schofield are clueless. I’d rather have a new clued up manager at the helm rather than relying on a director of football being competent enough to reverse all of Butlers bad decisions.
In my opinion that would be even worse because if we end up with a clueless director of football, we really are in deep shite..even deeper than what we’re in now.

Baldrick & Percy overseen by Mr Bean!
In fact, Baldrick & Percy would possibly make a better fist of it than Stan & Jack?

December 2, 2024 at 8:02 pm #295034The issue is not who comes in to do the job, it’s merely getting rid of the ringmaster (Schofield) and his puppet.

December 3, 2024 at 1:38 am #295044Agree with WGs earlier post creating a director of football at this level is sheer folly and would not work, another salary the club cannot afford just get rid of AB and Scoff , pay them off lick yer wounds and carry on,this way more fans will turn up especially if a decent EXPERIENCED manager can be recruited.

December 3, 2024 at 7:28 am #295048Not convinced sacking the coaching team will make a great deal of difference to eliminating defensive mistakes and lack of quality. Might get the holy grail 4-4-2 though and lose 4-3 more often

December 3, 2024 at 2:15 pm #295067It’s an entertainment business. 5-4 wins will retain or grow the fanbase, 0-0 and 1-0 hoofball will see the crowds tumble.

There’s definitely some truth in this… Kevin Keegan’s Newcastle or George Graham’s Arsenal.

December 3, 2024 at 3:24 pm #295074This squad does need balancing out, but an experienced manager who knows the level and who’s had success before will know what he needs. Whoever comes in will have to try to offload the higher earners and recruit cheaper hungrier players to flesh the squad out.
I think they are out there, but just a case of identifying the right ones and getting them in.

December 3, 2024 at 3:52 pm #295079It’s a winning business. To do that you have to score more than you concede. 1-0 gets you the same points as 5-4.
Most of us were prepared to swallow 5 defenders and a holding midfielder whilst it produced wins despite the immense pressure it puts on the remaining 4 players to score/create.
Then the goals started to rain in and any trust in Butlerball seemed to dissappear.
Two games with a back four seemed to steady the ship. It would have been odd enough to have returned to “standard” Butlerball but to respond to the divisions anti football masters (now Buxton have left the dark side behind) with our own brand of hoofball mixed with shithousery beggars belief.
We tried it at Scarborough to no avail. Why would it work in a home game against a team much better at the dark arts than Scarborough?
We did not manage one meaningful goal attempt in either of those 2 games.
I fully understand Michelle and the board/CEO giving Butler more time and financial support with Beck and Harris but without some clarity of thinking from Butler/Schofield then the season will be gone in half a dozen games and 3,000 plus crowds with it.
Is anyone concerned that since Turnbull was terminated there is nobody left at the club with professional football experience? Whatever people thought of Turnbull he had the credibility to question last Saturdays debacle.
Final thought it is absolutely OK for supporters to question and disagree with decisions of the coaching staff.
In my view it’s not OK to be abusive about them. Could we leave that to the idiots on the other side?

December 3, 2024 at 4:44 pm #295089Lets be ruthless
sack LT
get in a football ball analyst …. to do what ??
lets keep a shit manager and his equally shit assistant after all its obvious its gonna go well and fans will leave in their droves .. why
After all has happened over the last 1-2 years with fantastic support across the whole spectrum its such a shame its come to this but its a ruthless bizz n AB n Scoff must be on really thin ice .
Never have i wanted my home town team to loose but if another defeat or two was to get rid of the current incumbents then i will take it.. sad but true.4 users thanked author for this post.

Think you’re referring to the Facebook Group? X is worse I think. At least some critics who post on both X and Bru, cut out the abuse on here. So much so, you’d be forgiven for thinking they’re different people!

December 3, 2024 at 10:05 pm #295107Don’t go on X anymore. Occasionally have a look at Facebook mainly an hour before kick off on match days to see how many centre backs we have picked. Haven’t beaten the four at Scarborough yet but suppose that’s only because we don’t have five.
December 3, 2024 at 10:09 pm #295108I mentioned some time ago that an old school mate of mine sees him down the pub from time to time. Says he often mentions The Iron, and that he would like to manage our famous club again.
He’s got to be a better option than what we have right now.

Will take that comment with a rather large pinch of salt considering we’ve seen on this forum your benchmark for ‘abuse’ is merely referring to the manager as arrogant. You must have lived a sheltered life Deerey!

Sorry state of affairs but would agree that a win at this point would only be kicking the can down the road. The sooner he’s gone the greater chance we have of turning it around.
