March 17, 2022 at 1:53 pm #233757Have you forgot about the years up until 2018 Renée, over 3500 at sheff u, being top of the table for quite a few weeks the next season, and 2 playoffs. Great memories.

In my original post, I was going to add:
‘And to a lesser extent up to 2017-18”
With hindsight, I should have. We were still punching above our weight back then.
2013-14 L2 2nd
2014-15 L1 16th
2015-16 L1 7th
2016-17 L1 3rd
2017-18 L1 5thWe were in 18th place when McCall was sacked on 25th March 2019.
We ended up finishing 23rd.Remaining fixtures that year were:
H – AFC Wimbledon 1:2
A – Shrewsbury Town 1:1
H – Burton Albion 0:3
H – Blackpool FC 0:0
A – Charlton Athletic 0:4
H – Bradford City 2:3
A – Plymouth Argyle 2:3We were 4 points (effectively 5 points due to inferior GD) from safety.
Only harvesting 2 points from the remaining 21 that season condemned us to L2.

Until all you have left are the memories!I fondly look back at the years of Lawsy’s first era- 98 onwards.
Plenty of goals; entertainment; characters in the team; some cracking home/away atmospheres and a couple of good cup runs.
It may not have reached the heights of Adkins’ era, but A promotion/relegation into the then division 2, a couple of play off campaigns and the odd season in mid table obscurity was not to be sniffed at, we were the embodiment of a well ran lower league club.
Even the 03-04 season when we almost got relegated to non league was entertaining with Torps, Beagrie, hayes, McClean et al, and I’m sure convinced we would’ve been able to return to the league in a few years.
That was the club I grew up with-one which I was proud to support,-which is such a contrast to the current set up.

March 19, 2022 at 7:08 pm #233896Chelsea away 8.1.2005 (my birthday). Pre match announcer – “ a warm welcome to 10% of the population of Scunthorpe”, Paul Hayes scoring at our end followed soon after by the “can we play you every week?” chant.

You are correct Awaywego, but you should have completed what you wrote mate, top of the league one at the end of the year, then for some reason Alexander changed everything, and from playing entertaining great winning football, we then got 3 points out of the next possible 27 points, that completes what you were saying, but funny thing is that you ended what you were saying before putting the sad ending to it!!!!

March 20, 2022 at 9:17 am #233925What on earth was Alexander playing at? – Obviously not ‘obeying orders’ – as he got the order of the boot for it.

March 20, 2022 at 9:39 am #233930I think all of the current regime’s managers got the boot for one of 2 reasons.
Not obeying orders e.g. Alexander and Hurst.
Obeying orders e.g. Cox, Wilcox and Daws.
Not sure if Hill gets any orders.
