Funny how the support for the far right has suddenly gone quiet. The stupidity of papers like the Mail, Express, Sun and Telegraph which cheer-led for Brexit, Johnson, Trump, even Truss and Farage… they’re silent on Trump jumping into bed with Putin, despite having whipped up support for him in the first place.
Farage? The last of Western leaders to condemn the criminal Trump for his stance over Ukraine last week. He waited to see which way the wind was blowing, then decided to join in, just like Johnson with his support for Brexit. ‘What’s wrong with populism?’ asked Jonnie on here a while back. Well, there’s your answer. It breeds total grifters like Farage and Trump, who’ll say and do whatever to gain power.
And Brexit? It was just a game for Farage. Same with Cummings, Johnson and the rest, and Jonnie on here with his multiple aliases gleefully pulling the plonker of all those bootlicking sheep on social media. Remember Big Jobbie, and the über-cool über-model? Were they real, asked many? Course they effin’ weren’t!
But plenty still sang their praises. With religious fervour and denial of facts, they talked themselves into a collective trance for the past 10 years, a trance aided and abetted by years of lies by politicians, lies by newspapers, tv stations and social media. It’s no wonder some folk gaslit themselves into believing whatever they want to believe. Even some Christians have allowed their religious precepts to be usurped by those ‘dealing falsely’. How could ‘the great architect of the universe’ allow this to happen?
February 22, 2025 at 10:07 am #299288They might have just got bored posting now they have the upper hand Gurney.
February 22, 2025 at 10:40 am #299292And/or they don’t want to debate when the OP is signalling an intent to spoil for a squabble. I suspect I would be on the same page as Gurney for a lot of the stuff on this, and could into a lengthy diatribe about my thoughts on the situation (I will spare you all that), but people get stressed when the posts seem to be more of a personal attack than a debate.
February 22, 2025 at 11:07 am #299293Though, on a tangent, this looks an interesting documentary on the war on evangelical Christianity in Ukraine through trying to forcefully supplant it with Russian Orthodoxy:

This is what Russia is, it’s not the great defence of Christianity as made out by apologists, but a fascist country trying to force other countries to its whim, eradicating their cultures and replace it with Russian.
February 22, 2025 at 11:31 am #299297Personal attacks are a fact of life and political debate. We have a President/King/Dictator who has grabbed power again mostly through personal attacks.
How can attacks be personal when I haven’t got a clue who Johnnie is or Jobbie or Gurny or Sidey is/are?
February 22, 2025 at 12:02 pm #299298I think it’s pretty obvious that Gurney is aiming some of what he is saying at the Christian members who have posted here. While we might not know each other’s names, there is a person behind the screen and some get frustrated by such jibes.
February 25, 2025 at 12:34 pm #299413So, here’s a Christian-free post.
The old working-class as we knew it, no longer exists. The big industries have shrunk or gone, along with their culture of pubs, clubs and close-knit communities which gave folk a sense of belonging, identity, and a way to make a living.
People have been left decimated and broken, isolated and poor. Parts of the north are like post-invasion Iraq. Their shops are shut, pubs boarded up, drugs and hooligans, gangs and graffiti have taken over. They’ve been abandoned and lack support, either economic or social.
What’s happened? Look in the papers to find out. Open the Sun, Mail, Express… they speak our language, right? But, what do they offer? Not the complicated arguments about the damage done by right wing politics, privatisation, or the unfairness of absurdly wealthy people like the Bezos’s and Gates, Zuckerbergs, Murdochs, Musks and Trumps owning the media and the most powerful country in the world. No, you obviously won’t be reading about inequality and unfairness as the reason why you can’t get a house or a good job, or why the energy companies are ripping you off, or why the crims have taken over your neighbourhood.
Nope, it’s Brussels and the EU! Ooops, done that! Now, it’s the poor old immigrant you should blame! And you know what, even if you’re doing alright, paid for your house, car and live in a nice area, the immigrant will come and take it off you (copyright Daily Mail). Instead, don’t rock the boat, let’s punish those who aren’t responsible for the problems. And yes, it is how Hitler came to power in the 1930s, with slogans about returning to the past, making Germany great again, etc.
The supreme irony is that the very same things Farage and the far right espouses now – dictators, fascism, racism, denial of democracy… are the very same things which this country, Churchill and the great grandfathers of today’s flag-shagging ‘patriots’ fought against in WWII!
Time to wake up. But, tell the truth and you’ll always sleep well.
