When are you going to stop treating us like idiots, cut out the bullshine and tell it like it is? Some extracts and comments from yet another uninspiring post match interview.
“Cox was unsatisfied with how the team played after a 10-day gap since their last match.”You can’t use the 2 games a week excuse so what is it this time?
“I tried to play a little bit more attacking football and get at them” No shots on target would suggest you failed.
” We didn’t pass it as well as we could have done. Yes, it was a little bit bobbly but we can’t use that as an excuse.” What excuse are we using then?
” I tried to change it second half by being brave and leaving three up, but it didn’t really work.” No argument there!
“When teams sit in, we struggle to break them down, which we have to learn, and we have been doing work on the training ground.” So 30 odd games and work on the training ground and we still haven’t learned, how long is it going to take?
” We have to be raring to go and focused on our jobs.” Unlike today then.

Cox, Lillis,Musselwhite you’ve failed the supporters, I cant see many wanting to return to Glanford Park next season with the rubbish being served up now. On a showing like todays even iplayer is not value for money. Come on Mr Swann deal with it sharpish.

I paid for the match today which is the first time I’ve chosen to and I won’t again now.

What I don’t understand is, is why after faltering in the 1st half he goes defensive to try and rectify it and kept with the same players.

If that’s Cox’s attempt at attacking intent then I’m lost for words.

I wouldn’t have even started Eisa anyway, I would have gone with Olomola upfront with Loft to start with as we know Eisa won’t be staying.

Why not see if he hits it off with Loft ?

He should have stuck with 4/4/2 and 2nd half stuck Olomola upfront with Loft after 10 mins of it.

I don’t get why going 4/3/3 and leaving Loft isolated in a bid to stifle the midfield is being deemed as an attacking move.

Somebody worked out on twitter that 9 times out of 37 this season we’ve had 1 or less shots on target.

That’s ridiculous. All points to a manager with the handbrake firmly pressed down. Very, very negative.

I don’t think experience will sort it either. I think this is just his style, you do get managers who just naturally very, very wary.

I think Cox is just like this so nothing can really be done about it. Having Green one side, Gillead the other with Loft and somebody with the pace and occasional trickiness of Eisa should ever result in that shower.

This isn’t a knee jerk reaction either with what I’m about to say. I honestly don’t think Cox will ever get us out of this league. Not got the right sort of mindset. I felt that for some time now.

I don’t know how we manage to do this, but, he’s an ever so slightly more adventurous Russ Wilcox.

Do the owners actually want us out of this league? I mean promoted?
It has been made clear that saving money is the number one aim, and League two is the cheapest league.
Assuming that non league is not where they want us?

Gillead will go. Eisa we know is going. McAtee will be going “no great loss there though”. I can’t for the life of me see Karacan staying either.

Van Veen will more than likely be moved on. I would personally move McGahey on as well…poor injury record and not sure we’d miss him that much. Sign Bedeau up to another contract and have him, Taft and Onariase.

Just remembered that we have to shift on Turan and Jarvis who are both tied to contracts as well. Jesus, forgot about those two.

Hippolyte can go as well for me if there’s a conference club who will take him on a season long loan. Yeovil might want him back, he’s just about good enough to be a fringe player…doesn’t really add much though.

Hallam will be going, as will Butroid.

I hope to god the recruitment is better than last time. There will be one hell of a rebuilding job to do come next season.

No more Turan’s and Jarvis’s please.

Don’t we have another striker somewhere called Mooney. Never heard him mentioned all season.

Yes, we do. Out of contract come end of the season as he was only on a 1yr contract. As Northumb stated, he’s not even scoring at that level.

Turan will be off. I just hope we can shift Jarvis on.

What a strange trio of signings !

Good to see you lot are still taking the mick at every opportunity.

Cox should be given the freedom of the town if he keeps us up! What he has had to deal with is like no other manager in SUFC history.

    Experienced player apps:

    Clarke – 22
    McGahey – 13
    Taft – 8
    Brown – 14
    Karacan – 16
    KVV – 12
    Olomola – 3

7 players that would have made a huge difference if here from the start of the season or fully fit for the majority!

Whose fault is it that Howard, Taft, Karacan and Brown (or their equivalent) weren’t here at the start of the season?
Who is taking the Mick? Nothing but facts and valid opinions as far as I can see.

You can add Gilliead to that list. He’s probably the most experienced of the lot after Clarke.

I cannot see why you are worried Eondergoals if Gilliead, Eisa., McAtee, KVv, and Karacan will be leaving at the end of the season., we shall still have Turan, Green, Hippolyte, Jarvis and Loft remaining at the club, and with the management team in place, do you doubt that they cannot knock a good attacking team together, and you are obviously forgetting our recruitment and scouting team led by Swann junior, the trouble with you Wondergoals is that you do not carry enough faith in the remaining squad.

This situation will result in a saving in printing season tickets, simply because no one will want any, as a follower of Scunny for 70 years, I never thought that I would feel like this, but there is no possible way that I shall be attending and watching this shite that is played under Cox, Mussa and Lillis, and I would think that next years gates will be similar to the one’s this season. I shall still monitor Scunny results and read the opinins of the few remaining supporters that bother to go.

For Christ sake Coxey, give us a break and tell Swanny that youcannot do the managers job, he may even promote his son from scouting, noting will come as much of a shocknowadays.

It won’t be any better next Season with no doubt a smaller budget than this Season as we have had little income.
More untried unheard of players to replace all those who have been offered contracts and no doubt none will accept them as more than likely a lot less offered than presently on due to financial situation.
The sad thing is that the League is that bad this season with a half decent squad at the start of the season we could have been up there !
Just shows the ambition or lack of it by the Club.
I wonder if the people running the Club wish they were leaving with the out of contract players ?

Awaywgo—-Yes I Nhave done my share of moaning thus season, in fact more than my share, but can you honestly say that youhave enjoyed the season yourself????, it has been total defensive dia boring dross, you can count on one hand the games that have been entertaining.

And you are wrong mate regarding me being there next season, I may take in two or three games, but there is no way of getting my usual season ticket, in fact you can have the seat (I31) in the Cluggy, and there are some nice people in nearbye seats, I say that you can have the seat, I was forgetting that the refurbishment of the ground may be ongoing next season, Mr Swann wants it to be ongoing along the side of the construction of the 160 new appartments that will be built on the car park. That build maybe a good place for jobs for some of the players, they certainly are not footballers

Many on this forum have supported our team for many years. Quite a few can beat my 56 years of suffering interspersed with occasional joy.

If we were the type to walk away when the club are struggling we would have probably done it before now.

Cox inherited a dogs breakfast of a team who regularly got spanked by fairly poor L2 teams.

He managed to plug some gaps by bringing Brown, Howard and Karajan from the ranks of the unemployed and deserves some credit for that. He then brought Taft and Howe in who both have improved the squad. He has been unlucky that 2 of last seasons best players (Van Veen and McAtee) have contributed about 10 minutes of quality each in the whole season albeit for different reasons.

We are far from a good side but we don’t get spanked anymore. We have stopped letting in goals that pub teams would be embarrassed about. Every 2 or 3 games we even play a bit of football.

We would all love to be in better shape and we all have great memories of much better times but I am not sure Cox is the culprit here.

Au contraire Rodney I suspect there will be a significant number of L1 and L2 players released or offered much reduced contracts who will be available to us. It’s not just us, everybody will be operating on vastly reduced budgets and players will have to appreciate that if they want to continue as pro footballers.

    Good post.

We had 3 promotions from the years 1950-1998. I honestly don’t know how some coped. 100% you’ll be there next season Barton, you’re not fooling anyone.

The football’s been boring this season and that needs to improve but I can bet that if we revisited pre-season predictions then most would have been happy with mid table, if you’d have asked people at some points than most would’ve accepted 22nd no strings attached.

After the latest Humberside post match one gets more despondent !

Wouldn’t have thought possible. Would not have been my choice but Mr Swann opted for him and after 37 league games I think season ticket sales for next season will be the lowest on record !

Shots on goal, shots, possession, goals scored all significantly down on last year which was a pretty shit year (both seasons compared after 37 games). We have stopped getting beat by a big margin but we have zero creativity and nothing up front. Cox, to his credit has sorted out the defence but it feels like he really struggles in midfield and up front. He really has no plan B up front and this shows in never turning around losing to winning positions and the general very poor front play, backed uo by a 30% drop in shots on and off target and goals scored dropping dramatically as well.

BTW what’s happened to Beestin – looks like a pub league player

To be far to cox, step 1 when you take over a team that’s conceding goals and playing like we were is sort out the defence. And I would say job done, it’s not great to watch but it keeps us up. That’s the easy part. Step 2 is playing creative attacking football, hopefully with a summer to plan and some money for wages (mainly due to the players leaving) he can introduce something for next season.

i can see what you are saying MK, but the enjoyment and entertainment has gone out of watching Scunny, I appreciate that there have been many not too clever seasons past, but I have never felt like turning my back on the club before, but you hear of players not wanting to be here, players told that they will not get new contracts, or players going to have their present salary slashed etc etc, this is surely being reflected on the field, and some players are not bothering, this is new to me in 69 years of attending our matches. I really, really wish that I could sit down and say that I had actually enjoyed two or three games on the trot, I think that the Bradford match was the only one that I enjoyed in the past month.

There are many Scunny fans that keep telling us that Cox took on a very poor squad, this may be so, but after8 months in charge, the standard of entertainment seems to get worse, yes I have paid out the £10 fees for all away matches, and will be signing up for Tuesdays game as usual, but I can confirm that I WILL NOT BE RENEWING MY SEASON TICKET, I will probably, or should I say certainly attend a game or two, but I am not committing myself like past years, if it be snowing, freezing or blowing, sitting in the Cluggy freezing one’s balls off to watch suchshite as being presented to us this season, if the club have a team of non-league players, they shouldexpect non-league crowds.

You must have walked round with your eyes and ears closed for the past 69 years BS,every season players are not offered new or reduced contracts, and which player has said he doesn’t want to be here, just because a player isn’t playing as well doesn’t mean they don’t want to be here, they get paid wether they play well or not. Have I enjoyed this season??? Well I haven’t seen any games so can’t really say, but the last year has really been trying for us all I’m sure, but will look forward to every game I attend next year, the game is only a small part of watching scunny, seems like you go by yourself to footy why not go with Winterton iron you’ll be made more than welcome and have more of a day out.

“What he has had to deal with is like no other manager in SUFC history”.

Sounds like you missed the years when pretty much the same 11 with 1 sub played every match with 4-5 backup players and apprentices.

We now have up to 30 to choose from. The problem is that so many of that number, including some in the current first team squad (Loft, Green, Hippo), are not good enough, would never be good enough and should never have been signed.

For next season, they need to cut the squad size, and only sign players who can play for the first team. It can be done, but get the likes of Karacan, Howard, Taft, before the season starts, not after.

Agree with Irish. Priority was to stem the leak. In that respect the January additions were the right ones.

But that doesn’t cover up the poor signings made last summer. I guess we’ll never know who actually thought that Loft, Jarvis, Mooney and Turan would form a lethal strike force, but whoever is was should be kept well out of the way this year.

They were the right signings that’s true, they would have been even more right if they’d been signed in the summer instead of some of the dross we got.
Unfair on Loft to lump him with some of the duds IMO, wasn’t he a shoe in for Player of the Season a few weeks ago?

if you have a lower budget you need a smaller squad of good players not a big squad of non league standard below National League Premier level.

Average players got chance after chance and remain average.

Our own developed players rarely a chance. George Hornshaw – got a chance, out of position. Tom Pugh has not had a run of games. Charlie Barks & Tom Jessop – not a chance.

Hippolyte gets chances – the manager wanted him !! Some games you wonder if players know the plan at kick off, perhaps they don’t !!

    Loft?
Well I have lost count of the people on this site who have shown zero patience with young forwards who are making their way.
Leading a line is incredibly difficult – especially if someone decides to play an out and out one up front system and clean ball is not reaching you for whole portions of a game.

The problem is that it is not just the likes of Jarvis and Wootton, is it? How many have stuck the knife into loadsa cracking good forwards when we’ve had them, from Torpey to Novak and from Madden to Forrester?
