… there are positives.
1) Beestin is hitting form.
2) Shrimpton really starting to look like an experienced player – Gainsborough has done him a great deal of good.
3) Cam is not far off being a very decent player.
4) Work rates remain higher than at any time in a long time.
5) Passing and off the ball movement are better than at any time under the last three managers.
6) Forward movement is back!
7) Nelson is doing the best possible allowing for the fact that all the Chesterfield players were better footballers than our guys.
8) We did not miss Apter at all. Can Cam be a better player? – Probably.
9) Scrape a couple of wins and the season can be back on track.
10) Get the deal done and I reckon we could feasibly stay up.2 users thanked author for this post.

January 1, 2023 at 5:31 pm #251672Putting Shrimpton, Wilson and Foster(before injury) in the team and things start to pick up. Who knew?
Shame we’re at home next week!
January 1, 2023 at 6:24 pm #251685Fosters form, he had one save to make at Yeovil, should have done better with all 3 at Wrexham and though he made a good save last week he went off early on, so can’t say good form, we have had below standard keepers since Gilks and Howard and it makes a big difference especially when central defence isn’t playing well.

January 1, 2023 at 6:50 pm #251688Great to see Wilson starting to deliver on the promise he has always shown.
Had to smile at the Chesterfield commentator who kept saying Taft was on loan from Bolton. Until his late gaff he had his best game since he was on loan from Bolton.
I don’t quite share Lesgeo’s optimism but at least under Nelson the team look as if they know what they are trying to do even if they don’t always achieve it. For me this is the first time since Hurst was sacked for crossing the idiot.

January 1, 2023 at 6:59 pm #251690No we’re not good enough but oh so much better, bit of self belief there now, the young lads looking good and need to play every week they just need the experience, only one negative for me was the performance of Daniel, fans created a great atmosphere throughout 664 on new years day bottom of the league fantastic, come on Lee get that club bought.
January 1, 2023 at 9:03 pm #251697Shame about the final score as they ran their nuts off and we had chances at 2-1.
Warming to Nelson.
Shrimpton has also been a pleasant surprise.January 1, 2023 at 10:48 pm #251698Les, with all of those plus points mate, what can possibly go wrong, are you actually talking about a team that is bottom of the National League and only gained ONE POINT FROM THEIR PAST NINE MATCHES HA HA!,
you state that with a couple of wins the team will be back on track!!!!, they have not been on track for six seasons Les, and Scunny actually need about nine wins???. Just a reminder that Scunny have not won an away game for over a year, so the club need nine wins from their remaining ten home matches, you had better lay off that single malt Les!!!January 2, 2023 at 12:02 am #251702AnonymousInactiveOffline

January 2, 2023 at 8:18 am #251715Pleasing to see Wlison Shrimpton and co now starting to show promise ..alas the longer the stale fart that is Peter Swan lingers more chance they will.be sold to pay bills and wages.
The table and results never lie .. Scunny are rock.bottom.for a few reasons , a crap.keeper and piss poor defence among the list , the notion theres been improvement and we will do a Houdini n escape another relegation is IMO folly , might pick.up.the odd draw but soory to say a winning streak the like of which we need is fantasy.
Takeover or not SUFC are doomed this seasonobe can only hope we avoid admin.or Liquidation2 users thanked author for this post.
January 2, 2023 at 8:30 am #251716I think you must have read my piece but not the heading, BS.
I also wrote that all the Chesterfield players were better than all of ours.
Just how optimistic do you think I am?
The underlying theme was that we are heading out of the league BUT with new owners – there is something solid we can build on.
Positive – moi? – Only when I hear that Sharp and Elliott are in control.1 user thanked author for this post.
January 2, 2023 at 9:50 am #251719I very much respect your opinion les but offer the following comments re the OP.
2. Shrimpton had 2 opportunities to provide assists for goals, he hugely overhit both crosses.
3. Promise from Cam but lacks the physicality/stamina to be influential for 90 minutes at present. Work in progress.
5. Based on what I saw (wish I was a statistician) I doubt our pass success rate was much over 50% if that. Gave the ball away too easily too often.
7. He can’t get the best out of Butterfield sadly and failed to see, early enough, that Lavery is not effective as a lone striker. He is also still under the impression that Carver is a footballer.1 user thanked author for this post.
January 2, 2023 at 10:15 am #251721Go along with 1-8 Les, the main positive for me is actually enjoying the last 2 games, not alone either losing 4-1 and getting generous applause at the end and not just from the normal happy clapper’s and no booing.
January 2, 2023 at 10:23 am #251723In fairness to Nelson I think got the best tune possible from the instrument’s available yesterday. I have been saying for a long time that Wilson should be in the team, that lad needs to start every game. Shrimpton will become very good player IMO given games. My only criticism of Nelson yesterday was not changing Daniel, he had a nightmare.

January 2, 2023 at 10:11 pm #251756Wilson is getting the chance he should have gotten a long time ago. No way it should have taken this long for him to get a run in the side, who else really has more promise and ability then he had ?
Apter hasn’t shown anything in ages and Feeney is past it, despite getting plenty of game time. Shrimpton has been brilliant as well. Only problem is if we go under all the players will be released.

January 2, 2023 at 10:16 pm #251758No idea. Not seen anything of him for ages, he’s done a Lord Lucan.
January 2, 2023 at 11:41 pm #251767At the end of the day guys, if the club does not have a goal keeper that is average at the veryminimum the team will not survive, Scunthorpe have not had a decent keeper of any kind since Daniels left the club, and I have never had any kind of answer or support for my question of why is Mussa still in employment when he is in charge of the SUFC goal keepers.
Les, I did read your full post, but with the record that Scunny have, how the hell can you publish ten plus points????????????, league tables and club records are what count.
January 3, 2023 at 9:36 am #251776How’s Cribb developing?
Saw him walking down Donny Road last week with another yoof, tucking into a bag of crisps.
