The next 5 games look like a real opportunity to continue the good run of form, increase the gap from the bottom 2 and carry on climbing the table…
Colchester (H)
Southend (A)
Barrow (H)
Grimsby (A)
Mansfield (H)Tomorrow’s game looks the toughest out of the 5. I’d take 10 points, as long as 3 of them are from Cleethorpes.
Thoughts?
December 7, 2020 at 4:07 pm #198672The two always are definitely the banana skins.
We have always been good at giving Christmas presents to the needy!
December 7, 2020 at 4:20 pm #198675We beat the mud rats and got relegated, we lost to the cods and got promoted, I’ll take the latter every time.

Colchester (H) – L
Southend (A) – L
Barrow (H) – Manager less, so not hopeful !
Grimsby (A) – Could go either way depends on who turns up.
Mansfield (H) – On bit of a revival under Clough so not hopeful of more than a draw.Potentially we can get 9 points from last three games but I cant see us getting more the 5 which would be a poor return, hopefully I’m wrong and we will win all three.
December 14, 2020 at 8:03 pm #199098Going on Saturdays showing be lucky to get any points and back to early season points return.
From banging 5 against Harrogate to not having a shot on target against the bottom club it looks like the second wave of the can’t play my best team syndrome and the bench is woeful.
Hope I’m so wrong and we obliterate the codheads at the weekend but when have we ever done that. Would be when we can’t witness it.December 14, 2020 at 10:27 pm #199101Sadly if we opt for the intellectual approach we won’t get another point !
If we go 442 and ‘muck & nettles’ approach we could have at least 6 from the remaining 9 !!
December 15, 2020 at 8:47 am #199103It’s not as bad as the start of the season, the last 2 games have been 1-0 defeats, so it’s not like we’re conceding loads of goals like we have been. Plus in both games we missed some glorious chances, whereas earlier on we weren’t even in a position to miss chances.
We’re still not very good but we’re not terrible and that will be enough this season.
December 15, 2020 at 12:07 pm #199113It’s not as bad as the start of the season yet. Colchester was unlucky and was a game we would win 99 times out of 100.
Southend was disgusting I still can beleive it. We haven’t played a worse team than that for 5 years at least.

Are you sure you’re not judging that on the table rather than the pitch? I thought Southend looked limited but organised, I would expect them to beat Grimsby tonight.
I suspect that we feel a bit like Oldham felt when we turned up and beat them on their own patch.
December 15, 2020 at 4:06 pm #199119Shouldn’t have changed the side for the Colchester/Southend games, we would probably have bagged six points, ok there might have been injuries but we have injuries now and no points. You should play your strongest side and deal with the consequences later.
Cox has tried to utilise his squad interacting his not so good players into the team and got nothing from the last two games, it’s ok saying we played decent and nearly this nearly that but the bottom line is we go zero points and won’t get many from the next three games. I really can’t understand his strategy, anyway it his decision and it will be him who will be ultimately judged by the results.December 15, 2020 at 4:18 pm #199121Hard to argue that the team selected against Southend wasn’t the best available surely. Could it be that a safety first attitude (first target – don’t lose) was to blame, but failing to hit the target didn’t help.
December 15, 2020 at 4:37 pm #199122Fans may feel strongly about whether they consider Cox has picked his strongest team or not in the last two games but surely be has all the latest evidence from his medical and coaching staff, plus what he sees himself in matches and training to access the most fittest players to start. Plenty of teams have players on the bench at start of games that are not 100% fit but can give the team 30 minutes or so later on in a game to help the team out. Just saying Cox is in a better position to consider the best options for team selection in any match compared to any observing fan, I can’t see him picking lesser players from choice unless it’s a fitness issue regarding some of the others.

No I thought they were that bad. Standing off and simple balls going astray they looked worse than us at the start of the season. Absolutely devoid of confidence. If we’d scored early they would’ve imploded in my opinion but we just pissed about, didn’t press them and let them settle and realise we were nothing to fear.
December 15, 2020 at 4:45 pm #199124I haven’t got a problem with the teams he’s picked in the last 2 games other than I felt Hallam should’ve replaced McAtee against Colchester rather than Taylor.
There needs to be rotation with the games coming so quickly you could argue resting 3 attacking players against Colchester was a mistake but the fact is regardless of that it was a game we should’ve won comfortably anyway.
We have to trust that Cox and the medical staff are in the best position to know who’s up to it and who isn’t the last thing we want is to loose another for 10 weeks like we have with Kev.
What we need from Cox is to play 442, keep the players in the right positions which (fingers crossed) he seems to have realised. And for him to get them playing like they’ve briefly shown they can rather than having them roll over like they did at Southend.

Have we made a new signing or am i missing something. I’m sure most of us would agree that the starting 11 at southend was the strongest available.
@CWS lets not start that old chestnut. Most believe our best performance of the season football wise wasc colchester and we were unlucky to lose. Cox rested players for the colchester game due to injuries and/or fatigue. These players were then brought back in on Saturday to start with our strongest 11. Let’s stop saying Cox changes the team too often, he trying to protect players.

And McGahey.
Fair points on the rest of your post, plus the ones about the approach to the Southend game – perhaps Cox & Co aren’t as confident as you might have hoped?
December 15, 2020 at 5:25 pm #199128I was happy with the performance againstead Colchester. We took the game to them and were positive certainly until the last 20 minutes or so whe we ran out of steam and ideas.
Not happy with the Southend performance and wouldn’t have been happy even if we had scrambled a result. We were tentative throughout and didn’t put up mmuch of a fight.
The quality might be lacking but in League 2 you win very few games when the team is passive and doesn’t work at least as hard as the opposition.
For quite a few games running up to Saturday we had a go and worked hard for each other. On Saturday we did not.
If we dont tonight we will get beaten again. If we do we will get a result.
Whoever plays.

Read my post again please.December 15, 2020 at 11:52 pm #199162Read it again…still a load of toss. Isn’t it everyone’s objective not to lose.

Surely the objective should be to win? Particularly when you are playing the worst teams in the league?

Wow, I can’t believe just how bad we are, after a mini revival I thought we had turned the corner but it seems we did turn a corner but went off a cliff- 3 points from 15, absolutely shocking.
Colchester (H) – L
Southend (A) – L
Barrow (H) – Manager less, so not hopeful ! W – Last minute winner.
Grimsby (A) – Could go either way depends on who turns up. LOST AND EMBARRASSING
Mansfield (H) – On bit of a revival under Clough so not hopeful of more than a draw. LOST and even MORE EMBARRASSING.There are many in the club from top to bottom who need to take a long hard look at themselves. Most of the playing staff should be ashamed of themselves, if we were allowed in the ground there would be many BOOOOOOOOOOOOS.
