Well just when we thought it couldn’t get any worse, we were probably wrong. Newport overrun us during the first half, and all Scunthorpe did was give it the big boot upfield, but we all knew that they wouldn’t get away wit it for the full game, and so be it, Newport knocked in three goals just before half time, after going over four hours without a shot on target we did manage a header straight at their keeper, and a powder puff scuffed shot, once again it rolled straight at the keeper.

    MY RATINGS FOR TODAY:-

howard—-2—He doesn’t get any better, dropped the ball for 3rd goal, did not make a save.
    TOFT—-3—Poorgame for him.
    BEDEAU—3—Probably MOM.
ONARIASE—3—A thankless task in this team.
GILLIEAD—2—Not his game today, had very long spells without the ball.
LOFT—1—What more can be said, zero ball control, did absolutely nothing.
EISA—1—-Why does he keep being selected, lost every ball played to him.
BEESTIN—2—Midfield did not exist, Newport won every ball.
KARACAN—3—Not himself today and has given up with this lot.
HOWE—3—Had his hands full with Newport players.
O’MALLEY—3—Has fallen to the teams levels.

SUBS—3—Made a little difference, probably because Eisa & Loft went off subbed.

REF—7—Had an easy match with the one wat traffic, nice to see him last 90 min.

COX—2—How much longer can he avoid the sack?????????????????, say no more than Eisa and Loft up front, team informed to big boot it upfield, they got away wit this rubbish, till Newport slotted three goals in 9 mins. No subs till 65min although we had players not doing their basic jobs, get this guy bladdered Swanny, because fans will not accept paying to watch this shite. I was just thinking, my long term season tickets usually cost about £220 a season, and with the £10 this season for 23 away games, I have actually paid about £450, to atch this aimless defensive rubbish under Cox and his co-clowns.
Summary—There is only one way the club can go with the present days management team.

Remember when Lee Novak was your biggest headache, Barton?

I would have given Gillead and O’Malley both 5, as they we’re the only starting players who tried.

Green looked bright at times when he came on but apart from that, rest were a complete and utter joke.

I hope this isn’t sign of things to come but Taft was shocking again. Last 3 games he’s been unrecognizable.

Yes Cliff, I remember him well, I can recall making a comment on his constant running without any end product, but he would be a star in this starting eleven. Cox and Howard are now taken over.

I see where you are comming from Wondergoals regarding Gilliead, he does give his best mate, but maybe thats why it stood out today with him not being effective, but isn’t Howard a bloody nightmare!!!. Green is fast, but always tries to go through his marker, and todays fullback had him in his pocket, he lost his rag towards the end.

I’ve lived overseas for 40 years but always followed Scun Utd. Delighted when iFollow was introduced to watch every game live. But I have never seen such dross as what we “watch” now. It is indeed the poorest Scun Utd team ever. Remember not too long back when we “moaned” about Novak and McArdle – when we had Holmes, Townsend and Wallace in the line up. Last night was not football – it was hoofball. For the first time, I switched off at 2-0 down because it was a disgrace. A loss is not a disgrace to a better team provided we put in 110% – but that is clearly not the case. I’m not an advocate of continually changing managers and Cox did inherit 6 signings. A clear out is required – too much inexperience is there back to front, lacking in any commitment to the club. Sad to see Karacan and Gilliead been brought down to the level of this dross. Swann’s strategy for this club has failed. There will be experienced players in non league who would give their right arm to be back in the “league” and who would most definitely put a shift in and proud to wear the shirt. Bring some in starting with the goalkeeper (why did we let Gilks go, and we were most definitely spoiled with Murphy).

So, BS. One bad mistake from the GK means that he drops four points below average? – Hardly. The rest of his game was – well – average.

Bedeau made the worst mistakes of any defender throughout the game and you suggest MOTM?
(One goal-losing blooper each from the GK and the three CBs, BTW.)

I find this kind of marking frustrating. I have spent years of my professional life looking at and using comparative marking and this is nothing more than gut reactions.

If marks are awarded randomly – they have no value whatsoever.

Firstly, the teamwork display was lamentable but the players were actually trying. The fact that ball control was so ordinary and that we gifted the ball away so much was mainly due to lack of movement off the ball. I would suggest that this is a management issue. Incidentally, if I were giving a mark for teamwork last night, that would be a three.

If we are to mark players, we have to use a consistent and not a random system.

I thought we had pretty much all agreed that six is average. In any match – win or lose – most players should get a six.
If players as a whole average a five in any given game then they are below the standard required. Like the spell we are in currently – this should lead to multiple defeats.
If there are a number of fours mixed in – two whole notches below average – you will be getting what we are seeing at the moment with bad defeats.

(Hardly the time to mention this but a good performance earns a seven.)

I’m not saying that marks below four should never be given but they rather suggest a performance when the player has been responsible for conceding three prior to being sent off.

Fives, sixes and sevens are the norm. The official system for marking refs is not dissimilar. (Or didn’t used to be, at least.)

We are substantially below that at the moment – and that is why fours can legitimately come into play.

A couple of bad mistakes in an otherwise average performance will probably realise a five. You cannot take a mark off every time a player falls below perfection.

I thought the marks were actually quite generous, especially when the match summarises says the players have literally downed tools.
