Hope he’s not a replacement for a departing Roberts in January.
Brought in as contingency.
November 13, 2024 at 7:38 pm #293809Unless his game has changed significantly since he was here before he plays either where Roberts or Beestin play. Not as good as the first and not as reliable or hard working as the second.
Certainly not the silver bullet for the 5-3-2 system.
Hope he’s not a replacement for a departing Roberts in January.
My guess is that he’s arriving to free up Beestin to play up front.
November 14, 2024 at 5:31 pm #293846November 14, 2024 at 7:43 pm #293854Why the big wait of 6 weeks when he’s only signed a non contract deal, Butler doesn’t seem to have a clue.
Anyway welcome back Luke.November 15, 2024 at 5:22 am #293860Unless he’s gone backwards along way in ability at least he can pass a ball. Wouldn’t be surprised to see him replace Roberts, (going for a fee in Jan no doubt) now he’s proved his fitness
November 15, 2024 at 8:14 am #293864Not overly enthused by this Williams signing but just hope he remains fit off the physios table and plays well to prove me wrong.

Yeah, I think it’s odds on Roberts will go.
November 15, 2024 at 8:49 am #293868I wonder what Gainsborough value Declan Howe at?

I fear you may be right. My other worry is that, in order to match or get near to his (estimated) wages, any buying club will not want to pay much, if anything. We might let him go on a free just to reduce the wage bill. I don’t suppose we’d meet his minimum wage requirement and give him a new contract?
November 15, 2024 at 9:28 am #293871If Robert’s breaks down again with a prolonged absence at his next club, the response will be “,phew, thankfully we sold him.”
November 15, 2024 at 4:22 pm #293893Think he’s actually the type of player we need and have been missing since Connor Smith went back up North.
If he’s fit and half the player he was when first here then it’s a fine signing imo, especially being on non-contract terms with no real risk.
The big question is where does he fit into this turgid Butler formation!?

November 15, 2024 at 6:07 pm #293906Signing Beck screams 4-4-2, alongside Whitehall up top with Roberts and Carlton playing in their correct effective positions on the wings with Beestin and Williams in midfield. Clunan bench warming and the defence is a lottery anyway with the amount of recent defensive mistakes. Hopefully we would be more on the front foot with this formation and the defence might benefit from not being under quite so much self inflicted pressure. Go on Butler give it a go, can’t be any worse than recent performances surely?

November 15, 2024 at 6:35 pm #293907Amen to that
November 15, 2024 at 6:53 pm #293909Will AB pick a potential first team though?

A central midfield of Beestin and Williams (two predominantly very attacking midfielders) would be carved open like a hot knife through butter!
