The first player move needs to be Round Pegs in Round Holes, then drop any thought of 7 – 9 in defence ! 442 or 433 needs restoring then get the passing basics right.
And this talk of Luke Williams – it is not the way to go.

November 11, 2024 at 8:36 pm #293672Very surprised it hasn’t happened.
November 11, 2024 at 9:07 pm #293673I’m not.
November 12, 2024 at 6:58 am #293680Where’s our even more needed, dominant CM player?

Pretty sure were to sign Luke Williams who’s been training with us for the last 6 weeks. Butler is still signing players to play in his beloved 3/5/2 formation.
Telling you now, I can’t see this ending well.

November 12, 2024 at 10:03 am #293687“a Buxton team that is now undefeated in six matches after worrying their fans by losing seven of the previous eight NLN fixtures. This remarkable reversal of form coincided with the arrival of talented Leeds United loanee Cian Coleman”
Will ours have a similar effect if and when he/they finally arrive?

No.
November 12, 2024 at 10:32 am #293690We needed two additions in several weeks ago.
Whether it would have changed things I’m not sure. And if we were at the same point as now then it would have definitely highlighted more where the problem lies.
If only AB gave a different formation a shot several weeks ago too when things started going awry.
Lots of ifs.

November 12, 2024 at 10:37 am #293691It was highlighted by the fans before the Scarborough game that we needed new additions when we turned up with no fit forwards.
Could have been us that signed Coleman but no we don’t want loan players do we.
November 12, 2024 at 11:12 am #293694I would guesstimate that 1 in 4 loanees we have signed has been very good for the club; a 2nd is perhaps better than what we had at the time; 3rd is a place filler and the 4th is a waste of space.

November 12, 2024 at 11:25 am #293696As somebody said earlier, what harm can come if an initial 1 month loan is agreed. If he’s an improvement and plays regularly it benefits both clubs to extend. If he’s AB’s pick, not a Youmbi, then surely minimum risk and limited outlay. Would still prefer permanent signings but we’ll have to get what we can. (As long as they’re better than what we have)
November 12, 2024 at 4:01 pm #293705Butler was asked about signing young loan players too add to us and his response to idea came across to me as if he wasn’t interested in going down that route.
Signing a Luke Williams with a shocking injury record who previously plied his trade at a 2rd division Icelandic club seems more appealing to him. Talented, but he’s another who’s lightweight.
November 12, 2024 at 6:01 pm #293717If Williams does sign I hope his lightweight doesn’t weigh heavy on the treatment table, I’m not convinced he’ll last long in NLN.
November 12, 2024 at 6:25 pm #293724How certain are we that it is Luke Williams? WG says he’s been training with us for 6 weeks so either we’re not sure about him or he’s been injured for 5 of them. Can’t believe there’s been no positive sighting mentioned in that time. He certainly doesn’t fit mistertonmick’s description of the mystery man that he spotted.
November 12, 2024 at 7:38 pm #293737I said there was a player in a track suit kicking about with the players before the game who I didn’t recognise, it could have been anyone, but certainly wasn’t Luke Williams or Joe Garner, I thought it was Barrows but different haircut
November 12, 2024 at 8:24 pm #293741Ste on twitter has suggested Mark Beck Ex Darlington… that would be a good signing

A huge big and nasty who’s played against us before. Doesn’t fit Mick’s description. Could the player Mick saw have been Barrows in a wig ?. On a more serious note we need players of that ilk and could do with a midfield destroyer to go with him.
November 12, 2024 at 9:46 pm #293752Williams has been training with us for six weeks, so they have done well to keep it under wraps. He has impressed and they are just waiting on the international clearance.
Beck is certainly a target but he is on loan at Gateshead at the moment and is taking some convincing to drop to the NLN.

November 13, 2024 at 2:32 pm #293791George Doyle from Golcar United
November 13, 2024 at 3:00 pm #293792Could the fact that a striker who we believe is being brought in to address a dip in form be partly responsible for the dip in form? He’s been training with us for six weeks – about the length of time we’ve been explicitly shite.
Is it possible that training has in some way revolved around integrating him into the team and fitting him in to the system – and, therefore, when he’s absent for actual league games there’s now ‘something important missing’ for the other players… And so it falls apart?

NO.

This is really quite narrow-minded of you. There is possibly a degree of truth in it. If over the last six weeks they’ve been trained to incorporate the strengths (plus quirks) of this new player, and then he’s not there on an actual match day… it would require a bit of mental adjustment.
November 13, 2024 at 3:41 pm #293796Well if it is Williams whose been training with us for the last six weeks, he wasn’t a striker last time around with us, just another midfielder and we have plenty of those, well a certain type anyway.

Quit the Narrow minding!
A degree. You’ve got half a degree.
That’s my view No.Can you truly say we’ve played well all season bar the coincidental last 6 weeks.
And you think we’ve been trying to shoehorn Messi into this shower.Gimme a break.
Remember the times it’s been stated can’t wait for the shackles to come off? Think the leaded divers boots have been donned.
And that’s the beauty of a forum. Views differ somewhat!!

I haven’t said we’ve played well before the last six weeks. But the last few games have been remarkably bad, things have dropped off a cliff. There is a reason, or fatal combination of reasons, and I was adding one in to the pot of possibilities.
November 13, 2024 at 3:53 pm #293800Tbh Apollo as I’m not around all the time I only see 50% of the games.
But what I have witnessed was us take the upper hand early in the season to then be well and truly outfoxed by well organised teams.
But it’s not been particularly difficult.
Warrington was an early game I watched. They ran the midfield and that’s where our problems are.
Oh and the sieve like defence which strangely enough is rather apparent.Just teams started slow.
Tortoise and HareNovember 13, 2024 at 4:01 pm #293802Just teams started slow.
Tortoise and HareAgree with you. I think this is another of the reasons in the ‘fatal combination’.
November 13, 2024 at 4:03 pm #293803Unless his game has changed significantly since he was here before he plays either where Roberts or Beestin play. Not as good as the first and not as reliable or hard working as the second.
Certainly not the silver bullet for the 5-3-2 system.
Hope he’s not a replacement for a departing Roberts in January.
