Looks like Cox is preparing himself for a new career, here are some exerpts from “Harry Davis” post match:-
“We looked leggy and didn’t keep the ball long enough.” We look ‘leggy’ almost every week, what exactly does it mean and why are we always ‘leggy’?

“With ten men you’re going to do a lot of defending” We do a lot of defending with 11 men!

“We did grow into it in the last ten minutes” What does this mean?

“We’ll look at it and try to learn from it for next week.” I think we may have heard this before (often)

“I think if we keep 11 men on the pitch, I’m pretty confident in getting something out of the game.” As long as all 11 are concentrating on defence.

“I thought at the time the goal was offside but I’ve just seen it back with Ryan (Simpson, club analyst) and he’s onside so I’ve got no qualms with that. We’ll look at it again on Monday I’m sure” Yes, it won’t be offside then either.

Same script, different front man. Whose turn next week?

This reference to being ‘leggy’ oft used by Cox is him just spouting crap. A professional footballer 6 games in to a new season is leggy?? Most were leggy throughout the whole of last season.

At least spice it up a bit – how about Dowfarts?

We really must go along with this “we looked leggy” thing, we have to worry if he suggests that this squad can make a football team, regarding concentrating on defending, has it not occured to someone at GP, that if we play two or even three up front, we might keep the ball up field a bit, there are many more players in the treatment room then ever get selected in attacking positions, it must be great for teams playing us, all their managers need to say before kick off is “look this team does not play with forwards, so you can all play higher up the pitch without any cgance of them having a shot on target, and we all know that if we do not have a shot on target, they are not attempting to win the game (simple).

Leggy – quote from Google – When you say a player is leggy, or she looks a bit leggy on the pitch, you mean they look tired. The player is not running very fast, they lack energy, and maybe the fans can see they are running in an unnatural way.

After so few games how on earth can the players be leggy, they are supposed to bee professional athletes. What on earth are all the coaches and specialist doing because they are clearly not keeping the players fit if the manager considers them “leggy”

    TAXI for Cox.

    There are three main reasons an athlete feels ‘leggy’;

    1. They’re not getting sufficient recovery and the body cannot cope with the load
    2. The athletes are struggling psychologically / emotionally
    3. The athletes are not fit

Given the we are a month into the new season and the athletes had a full pre-season, they should be relatively fit, so I would suggest that it’s a combination of the first two above.

Getting sufficient recovery is tricky for footballers, the demands of training and playing one to two matches per week are significant. Add to that, the pressure of trying to perform at your best when the team is expected to struggle, you have a possible toxic combination of overload, recovery, and emotional pressure. There are many scholarly article in the sports science arena to support my analysis.

When it comes to performance sport the margins between success and failure and often miniscule, and getting the balance right can be a challenge.

I would say that it’s not too surprising that the team are showing signs of being ‘leggy’…they are carrying the weight of expectation on their shoulders, the expectation that we are in for a relegation fight. Athletes perform at their best when they are free from the burden of expectations, and can just focus on ‘staying in the moment’. It’s important that the players, coaching staff, and manager focus on the processes. Get those right and the result takes care of itself. If that’s right then they will be a lot less ‘leggy’.

Footballers generally tend to look “leggy” when they play most of the game without the ball.

MK Iron is right, that’s why the best teams keep the ball so that the other team are running around like mad dogs chasing the ball.

They also can’t be getting much enjoyment playing not to lose football for the majority of every match.

Cox must have missed the keep the ball sessions when he got his coaching badge. Someone also needs to tell him it’s 3 points for a win. Playing for draws every match leads to inevitable failure.

Don’t expect Coxy to change, especially considering our best results away from home last season came after playing 11 men behind the ball, having 30% possession, 1 shot on target and looking to play on the counter (1-0 wins at Cambridge, Colchester and Port Vale spring to mind).

Keeping the ball is clearly a major problem. I live in an area where the internet is too poor to obtain ifollow so I end up using SUFC twitter and the OWS text commentary to follow the action (or lack of) It’s amazing how many times The Iron win a free kick and the next minute the opponents have a shot on goal.
