Wish some of these politicians would learn to keep their gobs shut!
Follow the golden rule.
“Engage brain before operating mouth”.
A disgraceful comment given the history of more than one group she diminished. Hopefully this will be a lesson to her, but pathetic excuses about drafts (as if that is something which was just overlooked) doesn’t give much hope.
What’s all this daft nonsense about accepting her apology because it’s ‘sincere’?
It's time to forgive Diane Abbott – my piece for @spectator https://t.co/oZ0fKGvphK

She took no responsibility and made nothing but pathetic excuses. What’s more, this isn’t the first time she’s diminished Jews, so how long do we give her benefit of the doubt? I’d say she’s long gone past giving benefit of the doubt and a suspension is deserved.
John probably wants forgiveness for Labour unity and peace from angry Abbot fans. Which is a cowardly and unprincipled position, really. It’s why I find calls for unity often to be silly. Yes, it’s fine when the differences are small, but with racism, support for insurrection etc it is not. It’s not up to the rest of the world to reconcile with racists, apologists and other people whose actions have caused harm, it’s them.
I’m afraid that if the Act of Settlement remains in our constitution (such as it is) regardless of the Perth Agreement, talk of prejudice and discrimination by our leaders sound hypocritical.
She has said things out of turn several times over the years, she quoted a lot of different figures about police numbers I believe and the wrong funding figures to put it right but I think there may be a section of the Labour party who will now feel it’s time she was forced out. Guess you can only make so many mistakes in public when your a politician and this latest one, despite her apology, is a big mistake.
I also don’t think her apology is much of one. As you say though, it is not the only time she has been caught short. There’s also the time she denied the suffering of the Uighurs and made positive comments about Mao.
There is also the fact that this comes shortly after Labour has been reprimanded by the EHRC for anti-Semitism. It cannot afford to let such instances slip. No matter the source.
