Club statement worthy?
Cringeworthy.August 25, 2020 at 12:01 pm #193836Hopefully he sells enough to be able to buy a pair of trousers that fit with the proceeds
August 25, 2020 at 12:04 pm #193840Well what has he said for starters?, I have nothing to do with social media and the more I read stuff like this on the clubs website the more I’m pleased I dont. I don’t know there is always some crap kicking off somewhere between the club Chairman and certain supporters, it’s a pain in the butt and a complete distraction, whoever is to blame just bloody grow up.
August 25, 2020 at 12:12 pm #193841I don’t think Man City will sell any either for what he said in the 2 articles about the European ban in the Telegraph either.
August 25, 2020 at 12:24 pm #193842I’d be interested to know what has been said to trigger such a strong response.
August 25, 2020 at 12:37 pm #193843Not got a clue what’s been said but here we go again the ‘ Club ‘ publicly falling out with a Fan.
The Club want the Community and the Fans to get behind them and all the positives from Cox and Lillis coming back can be undone by things like this.
There is little if any communication between Fans Organisations and the Club as it is which also does not help.
The only positive from this I can see is that when the Media get hold of it then Book Sales will increase !August 25, 2020 at 3:26 pm #193872For those who don’t know what this thread is about: –
“Journalist Max Bell recently approached the Club on Monday 17th August 2020 to ask if the Club Shop would stock and sell copies of his forthcoming book “Scunthorpe United F.C. 20 Legends”.
The Club agreed to Mr Bell’s request and were pleased to be able to support local enterprise, particularly where the subject matter was the rich history of Scunthorpe United Football Club.
Subsequent to the Club’s agreement with Mr Bell to stock and sell his book, Mr Bell, for reasons unknown to the Club, took to social media platforms and online newspaper platform to publish false information and offensive comments about the Club and its Chairman, Peter Swann.
The Club cannot and will not be seen to endorse or turn a blind eye to the use of any online medium for the purposes of abusing, harassing or negatively impacting upon others.
As a consequence of Mr Bell’s behaviour, the Club took the decision to withdraw its offer to stock and sell Mr Bell’s book.”
I’ve not seen Max Bell’s comments on social media but he must be either very naive or misguided.
I mean, you don’t go on Trip Advisor and slag off a restaurant then except a complementary bottle of wine on your next visit!
August 25, 2020 at 4:19 pm #193876He’s a prick – end of.
August 25, 2020 at 5:02 pm #193879He’s a prick – end of.
Thanks BA, that really has clarified matters. 🙄
August 25, 2020 at 6:17 pm #193895Didn’t he just claim Swanny was a sacker of managers?
August 25, 2020 at 7:05 pm #193896Would be good to see both sides what as Max said or is it a publicity stunt to sell books if the big papers get hold of it?
August 25, 2020 at 7:21 pm #193897What made Max shoot his mouth off when the club had agreed to sell his books ?. I don’t get him at times. Somebody needs to have a word in his ear because this isn’t the first time.
I’ve said in the past that I didn’t agree with Swann taking fans to court but he’s one I wouldn’t mind Swann putting through the ringer, he’s always shouting his mouth off.
Max Bell’s a pain in the back end.

August 25, 2020 at 10:23 pm #193920I think it is time for you to put your spade down before you dig the hole any deeper, you would be better realising that you are only a small fish in a very big ocean, just like we are.
August 25, 2020 at 11:00 pm #193921Things seem to be getting tasty after reading the MB version compared to the club version. Gloves are off, will this become a legal matter?.
August 25, 2020 at 11:55 pm #193925Put it this way, if it does become a legal matter, I wouldn’t back Max Bell.
Max is forever taking pot shots..it was a matter of time before people down at GP lost their cool and fired back at him.
As a club, we could well do without this crap.
August 26, 2020 at 12:00 am #193926But how many now want to read the book that (quote) “Lifts the lid on what really happened!”

Topics: 4Max loves being the centre of attention and has a large ego, which doesn’t help matters when clashing with Swann’s ego, but I don’t see why we need a club statement put forward on this matter.
If the club doesn’t want to sell Max’s book, then that’s their prerogative. However, to publicly complain about Max offending the Swanns is just petty. Has Max said anything offensive to Swann, other than criticism for him being sack happy with some snarky remarks over Twitter? I don’t recall there being anything too personal, and criticism should be allowed, even if we don’t agree with it.
This just makes the club look like a grievance minded outfit out to demean anyone who dares utter a word negative about it. There’s been a lot made of ‘cancel culture’ recently, and this smacks of it. I have no plans to buy Max’s book, I find his writing style grating at times, but this could have made some money for the club. Instead we’re not because the statement suggests that Max has hurt feelings, which may not amount to anything more than saying Swann hasn’t induced a stable environment for managers. Like I say, they are not obliged to sell the book, but to state this as a reason is poor form.
As for lifetime bans for Max, get a grip. Are we not allowed to criticise leadership any more? Do we want Scunthorpe Utd run like the NKVD?
This whole matter should have been handled far more privately and maturely. If the club felt that Max’s behaviour on social media means there is conflict with them wanting to sell the book then they should have asked for as private meeting where they could iron things out or just don’t sell it and ignore his antics. Either way, I think it’s small minded to lose out on an opportunity for some extra funds just because the author has been critical of Swann for sacking managers, so far as I can tell.
August 26, 2020 at 12:11 pm #193952Ahh the clash of the Titans, one likes to police your opinion the other thinks it’s his job to give you your opinion, time for popcorn methinx.
August 26, 2020 at 12:14 pm #193953Well said BRI, you know the more I see and hear from Ernest Pawn the more I’m reminded of a Trump like ego, very disappointing.
August 26, 2020 at 1:09 pm #193965Got to love the people on here condemning Max when they don’t even know what was allegedly said.
August 26, 2020 at 1:38 pm #193973Indeed Pat. I do find it amusing and ironic when a particular poster calls him ‘a prick – end of’ . Priceless
August 26, 2020 at 1:39 pm #193974‘Ooh, ooh, the club don’t need him’. You what? Get a grip!!! 😂😂😂
August 26, 2020 at 2:49 pm #193979Wondergoal,why wouldn’t you fancy the chances of a guy with a law degree and a father who’s a partner in a law firm? It sort of takes away t biggest advantage people who çan afford to spend £500 a letter have. Libel laws favour the rich as there’s no legal aid to defend yourself against a claim
August 26, 2020 at 3:40 pm #193982Alex Salmond crowd funded over 100,000 pounds, why don’t you start one for Max? It’s an all new world now 99%.
August 28, 2020 at 9:16 am #194026why me? why don’t you,?
August 28, 2020 at 11:14 am #194033Would do if i was on Max Bells side but i am not.
August 28, 2020 at 12:07 pm #194040Why don’t you get in contact with him 99% and see if you can help him out in some way ?
You never know, with your help you may end up toppling Swannster !
September 2, 2020 at 3:12 pm #194196It seems all Max has is a misuse of mouth and trousers
