Similar script to every week from NC.

Reflecting on last weekend and this week’s preparations as a whole, he added:
    “We were disappointed.” Again
“We didn’t start the game well” Again
    “Weren’t at it” Again
“It was a disappointing first 20 minutes.” Again
“We’ve had a look at it” Again
“What we did wrong and what we didn’t do right” Isn’t that the same thing? “We’ve worked really hard all week in training.” Again
“They’re a good side, well organised and well drilled. They’ve changed their formation and gone to three at the back, playing with a ’10’, but we’ve done our homework and are fully organised on how we’re going to do it.” Concentrating on the opposition again.
“It’s about us creating chances.” At last – something different, but will we?

He must only have the coaching manual left behind by Wilcox.

    TAXI for Cox.

I know it was mentioned several times during the Euros but Cox and Southgate seem to have the same corporate manual.

Watching the Poland game on Wednesday and a number of similarities sprang to mind. The difference being of course, that Southgate can pick from the cream of English talent, whereas Cox is left with the bargain bucket at the end of the summer sales.

Basically six defenders and four others left to play where they want. Slow build up from the back, so once the forwards have the ball the opposition have got back in numbers, and the ball goes backwards again.

Keeping a tight defence, going ahead but failing to add a second, and conceding an equaliser in added time.

We’re fine against the Andorras and San Marinos, but against a decent team if we don’t get that second goal it can go tits-up, just like in the Euros Final.

Cox has to start getting goals from his players. Can’t remember when we scored more than one in a game!

Good idea by Cox to write his answers on the wall. No wonder he always says the same every week.

Despite your analogy NI, I would rather have Southgate managing our current Scunthorpe squad then Cox, I’m sure we would see a marked improvement.

Southgate has silk purses, Cox – sows ears.

I don’t go anymore – that is down to Mr Swann.

On field matters solely down to Mr Cox and I don’t include any other member of the coaching staff in the situation.

Always said targeting is the death knell of aspiration and how evident. But is this the plan to drain any enthusiasm from the remaining supporters ?

Or one written by Will Swann.

Wasn’t going to mention the similarities between the way England played on Wednesday and us.
It seems that if i do anything but heap praise on England, somehow I’m a hater or a racist or both🙄

But now NI has said it, yes, it was there.
I even had a suspicion Vanilla had set up to counter Lewandowski.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion alcy but I think the Southgate record in five years as manager is easily the most impressive since Ramsey won it in 66, no matter what the view on how he sets the team up. The old chestnut about ” if so and so was manager he would have England playing better and blah blah blah ” is pure conjecture and means nothing.

I even had a suspicion Vanilla had set up to counter Lewandowski.

That had crossed my mind too! And to be fair it worked for 90 minutes.

Also the tendency to throw teenagers into the mix before they’re fully cooked.

I-A, I’d agree Southgate has been one of the most successful England managers. His record speaks for itself. However, I think he still lacks that extra something that will take the team over the finishing line.

It is all about opinions but mine is that Southgate has 12 to 15 genuine world class players available.

Previous England managers have had 4 or 5 at best.

11 of them were in the team against a Polish team with one world class player.

We set up to not lose and to negate the threat of their one class player.

I think that is poor coaching.

We have all heard about “golden generations” with Portugal and Belgium.

I think we have one now and Mr Cautious is blowing it.

Similarities with Cox are there to see.

I am not suggesting the Iron have a golden generation (far from it) but we do have plenty of players well capable of performing at League 2 level. But we send them out every game with the overwhelming priority not to concede thus handing the initiative to the opposition.

It’s as if we must not concede because we probably won’t score. Self fulfilling prophesy comes into play. In Ferguson’s heyday Man U players went into every game knowing they were expected to win it. They were told (probably very loudly) that they were better than the opposition and they often were.

I would love to see some of that mentality from Cox and Southgate.

FA doctrine is on negativety and defence, Southgate epitomizes that train of thought.

Sadly as suggested he is the most successful England manager for some time without actually winning anything. Despite having a squad of world class players.

Most English managers and coaches have the same mentality towards the modern game and natural goalscorers/strikers who can play in the box are becoming less and less as they are expected to traipse back behind the ball all the time to defend.

Just look at the number of coaches/managers in the Premier League who are English or British.

To finish on a disturbing fact no English manager has ever won the Premier League.

The FA appointed two managers, Eriksson and Capello, who were not a great success, but they both played old style Italian defence minded systems.

I agree that we have a group of very talented young players. The top teams in the world would sign Alexander Arnold if he was available, but Southgate focuses on his defensive weaknesses rather than his obvious attacking strengths.

He even picked him to play in midfield. The lad can probably play in any position, but does Southgate think he knows better than Klopp what his best position is? We’ve got three centre backs, two defensive midfielders and Kane spending a lot of his time as an extra right back.

We are playing a team struggling to score goals. They did not have a shot on target last week (something we are familiar with).

They have 1 point more than us so they aren’t in great form. Let’s go out with a mindset to beat them.

Not much to ask especially when at home.

Surely we can win. We’re at home, the sun is shining (in Newbury, at least!), we’re putting out a reasonable team v. one which, like us, doesn’t shoot well so come on. FFS, score some goals!
