I really don’t get fans who are griping about not having expensive signings or a more exciting manager. In normal circumstances I might agree with you but these are very much not normal times: when we eventually get back to Glanford Park, we should be pleased we still have a club and we will have to get behind the team. I don’t want to come across as a happy clapper because I think I’ve been critical enough of the club, particularly the current regime, to show that’s not the case. But I don’t see where whinging about the state of things on the pitch is going to get us at the moment. Sometimes “showing some ambition” is not healthy for a club, sometimes you have to be happy with what you’ve got.
I still think the club could do loads more off the pitch to make more money, engage the fans more and help us to ride out the current storm. The new shirts look like a step in the right direction, let’s hope the new CEO can quietly make further improvements behind the scenes.
Up the Iron and let’s look forward to football getting back to a position where moaning about the quality of the reserve left-back seems more reasonable!
July 27, 2020 at 8:48 am #192520you don’t need to break the Bank to get a more exciting m Manager, Coach yes Manager No Russ takes boring football to the next level, if you are playing teams from the Premier League you expect to play with caution, but not against teams below you in the League.
Regarding players we will have to see who we sign but at the moment we have only one experienced defender and a goalkeeper who doesn’t fill you with confidence though he is capable he never seems to improve on his weaknesses, forwards and attacking midfielders we are not too bad, but defensive midfield we have no experience, but it’s no good having decent attackers when the Manager likes to sit deep for long periods of a match exciting only the opposition supporters.July 27, 2020 at 10:06 am #192526It doesn’t matter though does it Mick? We’ve got Wilcox, a man who has already got us promoted out of this division once, and who clearly isn’t going anywhere.
We’ve had managerial changes in each of the last 3 seasons I think (who knows if we’re still paying any of them off) and it hasn’t helped. Who are we going to attract to this job? At least we’ve got someone who seems to care about the club.
July 27, 2020 at 10:07 am #192527Indeed. If this was the first time Wilcox had been promoted to caretaker/permanent manager then fair enough, but we know on past record what we’re getting. The performance against the Cods show that nothing has changed for the better.
If Swann intends to run with a reduced young squad he needs the best possible coaching and management team to get the best out of them.
We know the scenario. Team struggles, players inexplicably left out, fans moan, Swann sacks! Repeat.
With a host of coaches and players looking for new clubs it’s a buyers market. Let’s hope Swann and the recruitment team have being doing their homework during lockdown.
Let’s also remember that other clubs are is the same situation as ourselves. We only need to be the best of the worst!
July 27, 2020 at 10:54 am #192531Don’t get me wrong, I think an appointment in the Adkins mould could potentially be brilliant for the club to generate some “buzz”. Even though I think his time has probably passed, bringing Mark Lillis back as Wilcox’s assistant could potentially be a really shrewd PR move and one which could get people excited again.
But are we in a position to be picky? I’m not sure we are….

July 27, 2020 at 7:43 pm #192552Whilst he did get us promoted it couldn’t have been more boring and he did get sacked by the club.
He might be cheap and a low cost option but I’m afraid it will be false economy.
Wilcox is not the answer although might just be tolerable given a dominating assistant, Lillis ?
July 27, 2020 at 8:46 pm #192555There’s only room for one dominating figure at the SVS!
July 27, 2020 at 8:51 pm #192556I get your point 😔!
July 27, 2020 at 9:16 pm #192558First time since I can remember i haven’t had a season ticket prove me wrong I hope I am
July 27, 2020 at 9:48 pm #192559It’s the perfect storm – Wilcox in charge with a young side with severe shortage in all defensive positions. If we are going with youth then we must have a different manager. I can stomach the risk of going down cheap youth option – I cannot stomach Wilcox in charge in any scenario.
Clinging on to the ‘he got us promoted’ tag line isn’t going to wash. You are only as good as your last game – Cods at home, 5 at the back, wingers neutralised. Embarrassment.
July 28, 2020 at 10:41 am #192566I’m afraid Embarrassment will be a word used regularly next season.
July 28, 2020 at 10:55 am #192568you certainly can’t play Russ’s negative style of football with kids, there will be a few hammerings I am afraid.

I like that scenario.
July 28, 2020 at 2:01 pm #192574I’m not sure some people on here are living in the real world.
July 28, 2020 at 2:13 pm #192575the problem is Ferrite most are living in the real world, can’t you remember the Grimsby game, not one shot on target all game, and wasn’t it 2 goals in 4 home game with Russ in charge.
July 28, 2020 at 2:44 pm #192576I’m not sure some people on here are living in the real world.
I think we all live in the real world.
Nobody’s asking for Klopp or Guardiola.
Just someone competent who hasn’t already failed at the job before and shown zero signs of improvement in his second try.
July 28, 2020 at 2:50 pm #192578We could cope with Russ if he entertained the fans.
July 28, 2020 at 5:22 pm #192582No one wants Russ sacked. Just for him to return to being a coach.
When he got us over the line in 2014 he had leaders in the squad. Syers, Bishop, McSheffrey, Hayes, Burton, Mirfin. And forwards like Madden and Winnall who new where the goal was.
Not got that luxury this time round.
Needs help in some form.
July 28, 2020 at 5:51 pm #192583Do you think that football genius Ernest could be making an appearance in the dug out?
July 28, 2020 at 6:52 pm #192589It’s a real world problem we have a boring negative manager. He has neutralised the clubs best assets – assets worth a lot less under his tutorship. All I want is Russ to go back to U23’s – if that is still a thing – and a young attack minded manager with good connections (Mcsheffrey) to come in. Prize money for finishing 6th or above a lot better than 23rd or 24th. I get we have to be frugal but settling with a negative manager who is easy to play against isn’t being careful with money, quite the opposite.
July 28, 2020 at 7:26 pm #192591I see Bolton, Salford, Mansfield, Cambridge Bradford and Forest Green have made some good signings.
July 28, 2020 at 8:28 pm #192594Do you think that football genius Ernest could be making an appearance in the dug out?
There are a number of similarities between the goings on at the SVS as what happened at our neighbours Trinity, and he had a spell in the dugout there so who knows what might happen, it could be classed as a cost saving initiative 😀
July 28, 2020 at 8:45 pm #192597He’ll have more interest in getting the fans in the ground than Russ. Not sure how the players would respond to his management style though.
July 29, 2020 at 12:05 pm #192604I want someone with the attitude, if we score 3, they have to score 4 to beat us , attack minded and see where it takes us UTI

That’s how Alexander started, unfortunately we’ve not seen it since.
Now we’ve got Russ “If we don’t concede we can’t lose”.
July 31, 2020 at 12:47 pm #192670Just someone competent who hasn’t already failed at the job before and shown zero signs of improvement in his second try.
Failed? He literally got us promoted.

Yeah failed. He didn’t get sacked for succeeding did he.
He lost his bottle and got exposed as someone with no plan B.
He learned nothing while he was away and delivers football that is endured rather than enjoyed.
With him in charge attendances and league position are only going in one direction.
July 31, 2020 at 4:18 pm #192680If the rumours are true it looks like having a good old moan might be having an effect !
Restructuring of backroom staff, Wilcox back to his old job and the prospect of a new manager.
It will be interesting to see who turns up, Nigel Pearson the Cowleys, or maybe even David O’Leary.
July 31, 2020 at 9:17 pm #192690Or young and cheaper.
