No pundits, should please some viewers, well NI at least!
March 10, 2023 at 10:08 pm #257002March 10, 2023 at 10:46 pm #257008When is Alan Sugar getting sacked? :-)
March 10, 2023 at 11:07 pm #257010Any truth in the rumour that Burnsey will be presenting MOD?
March 10, 2023 at 11:22 pm #257012I might start watching it again without that smug git presenting. I don’t need anyone to tell me what I’ve just watched. A missed opportunity to sack him and save the licence fees of over 8000 poor pensioners.
Think you’ve missed the bigger picture here Alfred but hey it’s just my opinion and your entitled to yours. I hope the BBC are in breach of contract with the Premier League because no presenters or analysis will be available this Saturday night and they offer the deal to ITV. The BBC are a sellout, first by Johnson and his £800,000 loan and then hiring the guy who helped set things in motion by giving him the BBC Chairman’s job and then pandering to the political right wing and media by coming up with this shite about Lineker. Freedom of speech by a private citizen on Twitter who is not a BBC journalist but a freelance sports presenter!!! F*** off BBC, free speech my arse.

March 11, 2023 at 8:19 am #257015Time to reset who is in charge. Also a great opportunity to get rid of so many.

March 11, 2023 at 9:51 am #257019Much as I don’t like Mr Lineker or necessarily agree with his views he is entitled to an opinion and has a right to express them. He didn’t make his comments during Match of the Day so I don’t really see the ban as necessary.

March 11, 2023 at 10:14 am #257021Classic Tory move; Get your Tory donor, PM loan facilitator, chair of the BBC to deflect the conversation away from the illegal, immoral, and badly designed legislation and pass the public furore onto a television pundit rather than where it truly belongs.

Spot on Bobby. I won’t have to scramble for the mute button on the remote tonight!
Having said that Lineker is the least annoying and is a decent enough anchor.
I wouldn’t worry too much about the poor souls either. Sky & ITV will be putting together offers faster than you can say Premier League.

If it’s deflection, surely it’s a bad attempt. This puts a spotlight right on the comments in his posts and what he was responding to. I’d usually agree with the deflection angle but they didn’t engineer this, just scored a massive own goal.

March 11, 2023 at 11:45 am #257031All very nice, but what if he was promoting the right agenda would you be on his side then, of course you wouldn’t. Time to let them all go and replace them with someone else especially lineker, shearer, and wright. Bring back Andy gray Richard keys and Ron Atkinson?.
March 11, 2023 at 12:06 pm #257035I think you will find none of those worked for the BBC.

Alan Sugar and Andrew Neil made right wing comments when at the BBC, as is their right. No problem from me in regards to their jobs, but Linekar gets made an exception of. Either it’s free speech or not, and while the right love to point at hypocrisy which does exist on the left, ignoring the free speech worries over Linekar only exposes their own.

March 11, 2023 at 12:44 pm #257044Sugar was a politician Neil a political presenter and I would expect them to make political comments, Lineker is a football presenter and pundit and expect him to make comments on the footy, sure Kier will be on the phone soon offering him a job or candidacy.

They are ALL BBC staff and bound to impartiality. Political figures on the BBC should be more stringent, because we get the news agenda from them. I am not saying they have broken such, but to place more weight on those who don’t have the same influence is daft.

Aye, only politicians are allowed to talk politics.
The rest of us should doff our caps and stay silent. “Nothing to do with you peasants; you just carry on planting your turnips”.

March 11, 2023 at 5:38 pm #257088Nice to see Gary Neville making a pitch for the BBC got the early final score in Bournemouth 1 Liverpool 0 great delivery and with no politics.
March 11, 2023 at 9:30 pm #257097Time to ditch the TV licence. Not at all happy that the Beeb hasn’t worked out yet what ‘free speech’ means and the responsibilities and limits of what can and cannot be presented for discussion.
Another case in point would be the total lack of debate about the economic effects, especially on the poor, and the actual effectiveness of current attempts to mitigate perceived problems with the Climate.2 users thanked author for this post.

Exactly. Needs a clear protocol. All of this present row is a result of bumbling on the hoof decisions.

Hope your not referring to that wonderful bastion of free speech Mr Putin 🤔

Not a valid reason to scrap the TV licence.
March 12, 2023 at 12:18 pm #257134People don’t like alternative views I’ve found that out lol. I’m just told I’m racist, sexist, and the rest, country’s and religions have a lot of the same views and yet me and them are wrong, who did decide that? Obviously mainly Western country’s decide, so we must all toe the line he ho, I think not.

MOTD was used first by the BBC for its Wimbledon tennis highlights.
The first football MOTD was on 22nd August 1964 showing highlights of Liverpool v Arsenal at Anfield.
Back in the grainy, monochromatic 60s, it literally was the match of the day that was shown – just the one game.

March 12, 2023 at 1:00 pm #257136He has a contract that specifically states he cannot do this. He has history for doing it, back in 2020 when his wages were reduced by £400K to £1.35mill – he was presented with a new contract that fully explained it all because of previous transgressions.
Tim Davie was brought in to introduce IMPARTIALITY, he is under pressure because a lot of people would like to see the BBC defunded so it stands on its own 2 feet. Mr Lineker may have single handedly ended its days as an public funded broadcaster.
