Can anyone tell if mark has any input into team training and selection especially in the striker position, I remember him being a decent striker that scored at least 10/15 goals a season.
Our strikers seem devoid of ideas and their positioning is terrible, yesterday at least twice balls came across the box just needing a touch to score but there wasn’t a player any where near it.
Yes they are not the best strikers we have ever had but surely someone can teach them the basics of being a striker.
I do feel a little bit for Ryan loft! he is plugging away on his own when support players are more then often not within 10 yards of him, I have said his hold play is not great but even if it was he can’t hold off all 4 defenders while waiting for support.
We must somewhere have video of past players that got in and around the striker like josh morris, Andy keogh, Ian barraclough etc, surely it wouldn’t be a bad idea to get the to watch these and try and replicate instead of trying to stop others teams at the expense of our attacking.January 17, 2021 at 1:25 pm #201146Lillis needs to get gone, seemingly adds nothing.
January 17, 2021 at 1:48 pm #201155Along with rest of the ex iron players.
Plenty got all moist at the thought Cox and the flag waving Lillis were coming back. And when any ex players gets mentioned it’s Oooh Ahhhh let’s bring him as our manager.
We aren’t a big club so don’t think it will take a new manager long to look around our desolate gaff.
Only the desperate will want to manage this shambles.
Either they will take over a team post January and won’t be able to sign any players or before the season is out so they can drill this four lot for the conference. We’d still struggle with Swanns Squad.
January 17, 2021 at 3:06 pm #201161Thing is that Swann has tried everything else.
Nick Daws, did alright in a handful of games as caretaker so give him a go. Internal appointment, worked with Adkins.
Stuart McCall, success with Bradford in his first stint there. Experience in SPL. Former International.
Paul Hurst, did very well at Shrewsbury on a limited budget. Sounded ideal at the time.
Last summer posters were saying – forget the has-beens on the managerial merry-go-round, go get an up and coming young manager from the National League. Evatt, Flowers or similar. Get someone who bleeds SUFC when you cut them. Get some passion back.
Lillis did an in conversation podcast which was effectively both his application letter and interview rolled into one!
Swann tried something different but it hasn’t worked.
Again!
Conclusions?
January 17, 2021 at 3:34 pm #201162Nothing has worked under his tenure for sure.
Go get an upcoming lower league manager that didn’t happen. And someone who bleeds Iron Pfffff.
Who’s that then, just a mob of ex Scunny players that are obviously not getting the best of what’s on the poor menu.Cox and co. wasn’t the answer. But as you say nothing has been neither. All depends which way the wind is blowing.
I thought PS was going to give us the fresh look to the club after Wharton but it’s pretty clear where we have been heading.
Good thing I guess everyone’s bank balance is looking slightly healthier not having to waste money on this trash. Who’s going to be interested in going back??
I’ve gone on to other hobbies and doubt I will see Glanford Park again tbh.January 17, 2021 at 4:28 pm #201169When people think they’re getting poor value for a tenner I suspect paying several times that for a trip to GP will mean you’re not alone in that.
January 17, 2021 at 8:49 pm #201175It seems to me that there is a widening gap between what fans want to see and what coaches/managers provide.
We’ve been stuck with this boring style of football for three years or more now and I guess it’s not likely to change anytime soon.
The inevitable result will be the demise of small clubs like ours as fans prefer to stay at home and watch the Premiership superstars or lose interest altogether and find other interests. I find myself increasingly in the second category.January 18, 2021 at 8:37 am #201182When he was appointed, I questioned the wisdom of bringing in a man who had been out of the game for several years to assist an inexperienced manager. Mark Lillis has done plenty for the club but the game moves on and I’m not sure this third stint has done either side any favours.
