Yep. And the increasing slurs, insults and digging towards anyone else who mocks or challenges his absolutism over Butler. Besides, it’s not like me getting on other posters nerves and being a pain in the neck is new news is it? But you’d be forgiven for thinking so!
December 7, 2024 at 11:09 am #295248Agree an experienced manager who knows and has had success at this level and the one above is needed. I’ve said previously, being an ok player plus doing a coaching badge course, doesn’t automatically give one the skill set required for management. What we’ve seen thus far, and the fact he was fired from the Donny belles, would indicate Butler does not possess the necessary skills.
Bizarre team choices with majority playing out of position, baffling substitutions, poor tactics no matter how much ‘homework’ we’ve allegedly done, coaching good players into average/poor ones, fixation on fitness over football, inability to identify players to improve the squad, inability to convince our best players to stay*, poor media skills, poor communication skills, unwilling to learn, unwilling to accept responsibility for poor performances, unable to handle warranted criticism, the list goes on…
But most critical to his unsuitability for the job, is his complete inability to read the game and make the necessary adjustments, both during the match or even (after the ‘reviewing and reflecting’ we hear so much about) for the next match. His lack of ability to read the game is further highlighted by the staggering post match interviews which more times than not have many of us questioning whether we have entered some alternate universe and watched an entirely different match. Extended contract or not he has to go.
*and no that doesn’t just come down to money, sometimes the players have to believe in the manager / prospects for success and I’m sure those that departed are thinking ‘thank fook’ after Saturday’s abomination
** reposted with edit to remove ‘low IQ’.
Having combed through the post that is the only comment that could be deemed ‘personally insulting’. Granted TJO, I accept and apologise as I don’t know his low IQ to be fact, it’s purely speculative based on his interviews in which I do find him be a poor orator. All other criticisms and points as to why he’s not a suitable manager for our club stand and are fair observations, purely about the football, nothing personal, though that doesn’t take away from the fact he was a decent defender for us a decade ago. We’ve had a few other decent players for us in that period of time too and I wouldn’t take any of them as manager either as good player doesn’t always = good manager. Therein lies the problem with returning to previous clubs as manager where a player has had a decent career. If it doesn’t work out invariably it will taint previous successes as it is impossible to separate player from manager, when ultimately they are the same person.
December 7, 2024 at 12:08 pm #295251I think most of us have got the draft from the umpteen previous times the same thing has been said.
December 7, 2024 at 2:36 pm #295256“Agree an experienced manager who knows and has had success at this level and the one above is needed” he’s not available or has been sacked for not living up to expectations
December 7, 2024 at 2:55 pm #295257No manager can be right all of the time, but I’d take one that has had success and has been right some of the time as apposed to Butler.
December 7, 2024 at 4:42 pm #295260Yeah quite right following from our rich history of appointing such guys and going onto glory. We need the next Robins,Hurst,Knill,Hill , Alexandre or Buxton .The only managers in GP history to get us promoted were from within

December 7, 2024 at 5:30 pm #295266Didn’t Brian laws get us promotion in 99.
December 7, 2024 at 5:32 pm #295267Did Alan Clarke get us promoted?
Had a huge slice of luck to do it and his managerial skills were on par with Keith Hill but facts are facts even when they don’t support people’s narrative.

Came in as a player, good left back ,promoted from within

Alan Clark At glanford park? He nearly cost us Duncan’s promotion
December 7, 2024 at 5:48 pm #295270I don’t disagree with that statement but the records show it as Clarke’s promotion.
If I remember correctly he had very fixed ideas about formations and playing style. Tended to pick his favourites and was very stubborn about being right despite the evidence suggesting otherwise. Remind you of anyone?
December 7, 2024 at 5:50 pm #295272I also said at GP in my statement if you’d read it,so Clarke not relevant
December 7, 2024 at 5:52 pm #295273The only thing I remember about Clarke is Wraith named his dog Clarkey
December 7, 2024 at 5:53 pm #295274Allan Clark’s player Tommy Graham scored the final 2 goals that got us promoted.
December 7, 2024 at 7:37 pm #295282Clarke was crap .. though i believe his footwear company specializing in predominately children and old foggies footwear still remains a huge and successful business.

December 8, 2024 at 12:41 pm #295296Chester, if memory serves, AWG.
I was there! (Welsh accent required.)December 8, 2024 at 12:55 pm #295297I was there too Les. If memory serves 2 or 3 other results had to go our way that day as well and unusually they did.
Clarke had very loudly said when he took over the squad wasn’t good enough for promotion
December 8, 2024 at 4:05 pm #295300Just the one MK Bury had to loose to champion’s Wimbledon at home and they duly did.
Pre meditated pitch invasion at kick off ensured both us and Bury more or less kicked off at the same time 3.15, dont know whether we were the catalyst for teams all kicking off at the same time in final games nowadays if not it probably helped. -
