Not that I was in favour of the onelove armbands to fall at the first hurdle beggars belief, grow some balls, instead of just the captain’s wearing them let the whole team wear them, put the ball back in FIFA’s court would they want loads sending off in games, or just keep quite and stop all the politics from players including that knee thing. FIFA made them look a right set of w****** how embarrassing for them.

I support the campaign and you’re right that it’s cowardly. What’s more, the Qatari captain wore a Palestinan flag for an armband. That, I would argue to be political, so the hypocrisy is rank.

Always prefer lambs liver with chips, peas and some nice thick onion gravy 😋. In all seriousness it’s absolute bollocks, they back track on allowing the fans a drink in the ground after signing the deal because the Qatar royals stuck their nose in last minute but allow the wealthy in their corporate boxes to neck it down them. Then the armband fiasco, the tournament should never have gone there but this is what happens when money and corruption ruin the game. I think there will be some more shit to come yet before it’s over.

Are the Quatar royals making the VAR decisions because they have not been great in the first 2 matches.

Vvery brave of the Iran team to blank their National anthem.

Potentially much greater consequences than a yellow card.

That’s from my Moss cafe days on the England/Scotland border ( well very near anyway ) back in my trucking days cass. We had bread and butter with it too and it was very good plus a big mug of tea to wash it all down.I get your point but don’t knock it until you have tried it mate but then again maybe you have.

Prefer mash with it but not averse to fat chips for a change.

The sound’s better on the Wales match. Last one sounded like the air-con was playing up.

The Moss did excellent fat chips, transport cafe chips are thicker then chip shop chips but despite their inferior brains they taste great with lambs liver😂. The gravy is the key IMO, good thick onion gravy, almost makes me want to go back on the road again.😋

When Blatter pulled out Qatar for a World Cup host nation, my first thought was “What in earth!”, (Or a similar expression).
All the rights issues are doing are covering up the obvious.
FIFA IS COMPLETELY AND UTTERLY CORRUPT
If nations had boycotted this world cup, and the previous one, I would have fully supported their decision.

In some ways the damage has already been done. The dead workers, the repressive nature of the state, these things were all known about 12 years ago. There could have been action to refuse to play, but money speaks.

I personally support actions for civil rights, within proportion, and think sport is a great opportunity to highlight this, but many want to play it on easy mode. I am happy for them to take the knee, but it’s no more than a gesture. There is not much societal cost. It doesn’t make them civil rights activists in the manner of Rosa Parks, who faced real consequences for her activism. As soon as any consequence makes their gestures harder, they shrink. They couldn’t do the bare minimum because they feared a yellow card.

Those Iranian players showed greater bravery. They would know there is a real risk to their family back home for their action, and the consequences are far more severe than a yellow card. The England squad have set themselves up as supporting such causes, but when causes get even moderately tough they run away.

Imagine the fans reaction if Kane had been booked prior to coming onto the field for wearing the arm band , got booked in the game and sent off as a result, the right wing media would have crucified him and fans would follow like the sheep they are. As Siderite points out the damage was done prior to the tournament, FIFA took their 30 pieces of silver then went back on their statement that all fans would be welcome, beer for proper fans was cancelled going back on what was signed up for because the human rights abusers suddenly got their feathers ruffled about their beer agreement. It’s a shame all the leading football nations didn’t say two days before arriving in Qatar, ” actually you can shove your prejudiced tournament up your arse, we aren’t coming because we’ve changed our mind too “.
