The Board will feel that – in the end – finishing second and being a mere kick or two away from the Play Off final is a more than reasonable achievement during what has been a very dramatic season off the field and around the club. Dean will be given another season at the helm.

If they do it would be a major mistake on their part. Let him walk away finishing second and going out on penalties. One last line drawn under the whole season.

Surely the irritation from many fans is known to them, and as it is a case of renewing a contract, Michelle and co will see it is not a positive move to extend. No matter what Elliott thinks.

It appears to be time for a change and fans vote with their feet. Who knows how the board see it but anything is possible.

Has it been a learning curve for JD?
If we feel that we are headed for more of the same next season – then enough is enough.
If he has learned from experience – and for me the evidence is not overwhelming that he has – he should keep his job.
The trouble is that a failed 2nd place was probably unacceptable given the quality of our squad.

Look nothing is a given in football but considering the quality of the squad based on a massive budget compared to the rest of the divisions clubs and the fact plenty on here and in the ground on match day have stated we should have comfortably won the title then JD has to be moved on. Yes he’s a really nice guy and genuinely loves and wants the best for this football club but he’s way short on tactical nous for getting the best out of these players in this division, he’s been out thought too many times by better manager’s with poorer squads and in the best interests of this football club going forward he has to leave. Sorry Jimmy, nice guy with a great heart but you are not good enough for this football club.

What has happened off the pitch is getting muddled up with what’s happened on the pitch.
Michelle , the Board , the Fans and all the Town have got behind saving our Club which they have done and what a great success.
But on the pitch we have had a Team of full time professionals playing in what is mainly a League occupied by part time Teams.
Yes the players take some responsibility but Jimmy Dean has mainly selected the players we have , picks the team , sets out the way he wants them to play and motivates them. He also is responsible for changing things during the games.
Dean had 2 chances to get us promoted either by winning the League or the play offs and sadly failed on both counts.
He may be a nice bloke , passionate about the Club , etc etc but this has not got us promoted.
The Board need to let Jimmy Dean go and we need a fresh start with someone who might not be a nice bloke but can win football matches.
Whilst Jimmy Dean is in charge the fan base is going to split over him.
It might be a hard decision but the Board have to let Jimmy go or I can see us being in the same position next season .
Giving him 10 games or what ever could be 10 to many.
Just like hard decisions made of the pitch then a hard one has to be made over Jimmy Dean

Absolutely spot on IL82. We need to disassociate the trope ‘we were hours away from going under’ to matters affecting the playing side; people are saying we need to keep JD because we were hours from going bust. Every one of us is grateful for the club being saved and will continue to be but the club needs to move forward l, look forward and reignite fans interest in the summer. JD’s style of football and his intellect in playing matters will dampen that. The club deserves better than some of that nonsensical management. for the record Elliot’s choice of who to side with over the years has been dreadful. JD out Crosby in and build from there.

Simon Elliott is a self-interested idiot who is arrogant enough to think no-one has noticed.

Everyone has the same thought. I have listened to many of his interviews – it is painful, all I get is we seem to set up to deal with opponents home or away.

1 up front is a disgrace and the management have not dealt with one of the most basic needs of any player – how many people mention the poor quality passing. If they struggle with that there is no chance. Team selection seems hit and miss and so many say there is no plan B assuming there is a plan A.

Hope the board read many fans comments they cannot be all wrong.

Unfortunately I don’t agree with you on the quality of the squad. I don’t see barely any quality bar half a teams worth.
We looked very mediocre yesterday. The bench was an embarrassment

Speaking with supporters most games in the exec lounge and allowing the players to be more accessible; Offering the chance for younger supporters to train with the players; refusing to accept the gofundme money unless the players received their share; working for 2 months without pay or expenses.

Probably lots more anecdotes this year but these spring to mind.

Sorry if it seems uncharitable, but it’s what I’d expect of any manager / coach. The way some people talk you’d think he was Mother Theresa. Just my opinion.

‘working for 2 months without pay or expenses.’ Okay. Does that make him Mr Nice or someone with little choice? Like I said, I’ve nothing massive against him personally, I just think some bandy around the ‘nice guy’ stuff quite liberally.

Some just come over as nice guys he is one of them, pre alfreton he took his family caravaning somewhere near. Scunny fan on the same site says he was very approachable sat and had a beer with his family and there’s sat and talked and not just about football.
After the game yesterday he could have just hid but he didn’t still happy to talk and have photos with the fans outside the ground and that’s from a man who must think that was his last game in charge.

Many more will make the same decision and will go and watch football or another sport elsewhere or even go and do something completely different.

Disappointing to hear all these stories which come about as a result of a missed penalty at the end of season being able to watch a winning team. What if the lottery of penalties had worked for us, we would be looking forward to next Saturday. None of this ‘get him out’ talk. Let the dust settle before we make any hasty decisions , we have a habit in the past of changing managers regularly

“a really nice guy and genuinely loves and wants the best for this football club”

There over 6,500 people like that at the game yesterday. I wouldn’t want any of them managing the team either!!

We need a fresh start with a fresh manager.

I will attend far less next season if JD stays as well. Mainly because his style bores me most of the time.

A winning team? We just managed to not lose as many as most of the others.

Specifically in 20 of our games, there was obviously 60 points up for the taking – yet, from those 20 games we only collected 10 points!

    P20 D10 L10 Avail Pts 60 Actual Pts 10

If we’d accrued half of those fifty available points then we’d have being runaway champions.

We’ve being very poor for a very long period of time.

    This can’t continue.

If only it was just about yesterday DF but yesterday was all about winning nothing else was good enough.
The football in the main has been piss poor for most of the season, even yesterday if he’d only just gone for it but he didn’t. fans wouldn’t put up with Alexanders tactics at the end so certainly aren’t gonna put up with Jimmy’s in the league we’re in

That and him being a top geezer çan’t be used as a reason to extend his contract. That would be crazy.

‘The football in the main has been piss poor for most of the season,’

Damn right it has. Admittedly I haven’t got to that many games this season but I’ve watched plenty on ÑLTV and almost every game was as dull as dishwater. Okay there’s been some games we’ve wiped the floor with a few teams but the mismatch in those has been tiresome too.

We also might have had a better chance of a final if Dean didn’t make a poor team line-up, including an imbalanced left side and late substitutions. Of course, this is just opinion, but that didn’t help and is an issue which has been prevalent throughout the season.

We have a hasty decision to make, since his contract is running out in a month or so. Given the failure to achieve with one of the few full time squads at this level with the highest budget, coupled with uninspired performances for 2024 so far and many fans turning, I would say it’s too big a risk to offer him a new one. People might say that we should support the club regardless, but some on here and elsewhere are saying they may reduce their attended games because of him. It would be brave, maybe foolish, to offer him a contract extension in this context, when he has shown no success with a budget that should have seen us as performing better and achieving better results than we have. Especially since, if we underachieve again during next season. Patience with him will be lower and then we might have to think about paying him out of a contract because of a mistaken judgement during a time when we need as few costs as possible.

We tried this with Nick Daws, and it failed and cost us.
