Iron Bru › Forums › Blast Furnace › Len Sharpe RIP
Sadly died at the age of 88, played for the Iron when I first started going to the Old Showground.
Very sad to hear of his passing. I remember him playing for Scunthorpe Boys when several of my contempories at Scunthorpe GS played for the same team. I was never good enough to even play for the school team, but I enjoyed watching Len and my friends playing for the town team. A very loyal son of Scunthorpe.
A squad of 18 players all giving their best for the Iron. I dread to think what the season review would be for the current squad.
He would not have accepted the lack of enthusiasm exhibited by some of todays team. Saw him play a few times.
But got to meet Len many times when he was shopping in Ashby, he was very unassuming and a tad embarrassed when you complimented him on his efforts when wearing the IRON shirt.
RIP Len Sharpe
Len joined the Iron as a player in the same year that I joined them as a supporter, Len was a hard yackling wing half back, and also at times was moved to full back, he was full of energy and hardly missed a match, he would have been angry to see the present plight that the club are now ibn, an the lack of effort and total disregard that some of them have towards the club and its fans.
RIP Lan.
I remember acting as a fitter’s mate to Len at Starco Engineering (Archer and Sharpe) in 1968. I was there a couple of months and a good proportion was alongside this great bloke.
Hadn’t seen him from then to now – but he made a great impression on me.
RIP.
He was a good man. Sharpe, Brownsword, Hubbard, Hardwick, Haigh et al. were made of stronger stuff than – you can complete the sentence with your own choice of words. They showed commitment.
